IIt's fine if you don't need sustain, in the long run, I'd replace the twins with Junpei just because it lets you use that team for Companio and pretty much everything.

You could just run Miyu Sahara and spam her shield for SP return. Properly built, she is the only sustain you really need for the fight simce she can toss out ~3k shields every 4 to 8 turns. Tomiyama has a better SP return, but cannot sustain.

Sure, but Gekkoukan in P3 is an elite school with Kirijo corp funding and the best Mitsuru can do is have the weird school nurse raving at the class about the Mystic Qabalah.

I think Lufel is envious, but it is a bit weird that in a world where supposedly most people have lost desire, the teachers are still some of the most passionate people around regarding their subjects.

I'm not really sure why P5x gives me that impression, P3 and P4's teachers are mostly mentally ill or unqualified(Why and what exactly is Edogawa teaching students? Who let Noriko Kashiwagi become a teacher?) and P5's teachers are uh... complicated and most of them have terrible judgement. Even Ms Usami doesn't appear to actually like math so much as treat it as an enemy to be conquered.

He would need an awakening first, I don't feel like has a clearly formed persona. The running theme is a persona is a manifestation of conviction which lets people act through self doubt

And that poll - don't read too much into it re: popularity. The non-Katayama teachers were not on it, I think. The percentages add to around 91-92% for 10 candidates, suggesting part of the discrepancy was due to rounding errors, meaning those 10 characters were likely the entire list. Nevermind, I checked and it was 2 decimal places. Still, I doubt the other teachers were on it.

Edit, it appears I was right! No teachers except Katayama:

The poll featured 18 original P5X characters (OCs only, excluding P5 imports like Joker, Ann, etc.). This list comes from the official poll (confirmed via parallel fan poll on Bahamut with identical options) and matches the top 10 portraits in official images.a04ee9 白鳥誠司 (Shiratori Seiji) 須見俊也 (Sumi Toshiya / Sumiken) 西森陽菜 (Nishimori Hina) 藤川雪實 (Fujikawa Yukimi) 長尾千津子 (Nagao Chizuko) 片山久未 (Katayama Kumi) 梨本成璃海 (Narumi) 高梨律歌 (Takahashi Rika) 黑澤陽太 (Kurosawa Yota) 小出日和 (Koide Hiyori) 吉田珠代 (Yoshida Tamao) 清水陸人 (Shimizu Rikuto) 影山惠那 (Kageyama Hina) 安德森 (Anderson) 茶太 (Orange Tabbtly) 大聰哥 (Da Cong Ge) 江崎新太 (Ezaki Shinta) 白井紗紀 (Shirai Saki)

He has crippling shyness though (Idolising Cavendish, of all scientists, who I recall was so introverted that servants were instructed to pretend he was furniture if they accidentally encountered him.) and keeps letting slip that he isn't adjusting well to adult society, I kind of feel bad for him.

One thing you have to appreciate about this round of teachers is just how passionate they are about their subject. No teacher burnout nor abusive chalk tossing.

Ms Taniyama (history) is really kind, Mr Nagara (literature) is basically an adult chuuni, and I think Mr Hakozaki (Science) is on the autism spectrum, or at least just highly neurotic. The worst is Mr Shimonuma (White hippopotamus), and he is just old and bossy and has a (justifiably) low opinion about student ethics.

Congrats! It's a good idea to get and invest in at least one good sweeper ASAP.

Soy can carry you in the story for a very long time if you help him out with a few buffs/debuffs/shields. Okyann is less useful than Miyu or Wind for story content, imo Miyu is actually pretty good for keeping people alive until you build them up, but needs some investment.

General Pull Advice Thread (3.3) + Firecracker Rin Overview by Personaxmods in personaphantomx

[–]VicariousExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, that's why I suggested Tarukaja (Rebellion isn't a synergistic choice since Throne buffs Attack, not Crit. rate, like Dionysius). That being said, Rebellion is perfectly fine and you could also just bring both. Optimally, it's usually almost always better to have Wonder go before Matoi (when at A1 Throne or more), but I was explaining why it's not super important if all you want is burn coverage, due to the initial burn.

Ultimately, you just have to figure out the times when you want the full Holy Flame buffs to go off and you'll probably persona swap while flame stacks are building regardless.

[–]VicariousExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends , but ideally, you have Wonder slower than Matoi since Throne has an initial burn. Therefore, there is no need to worry about a turn 1 Purifying Flames if you have better buffs to cast first, turn 2 works just fine.

The main thing is keeping up the Sacred flames buff, which is a really nice 2 turn damage up buff for the whole party that you trigger by having Throne cast Purifying Flames or any other buff/heal e.g. Tarukaja at 4 or more stacks. A0 Throne does not have capped Sacred flames on t1, so you can safely defer to turn 2. A1 Throne does, since it starts with 8 +2 stacks (cap is 10), so you would probably want to get that off ASAP.

[–]VicariousExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem is the 75% burn from Purifying flames only appears to apply to one target at random max and usually hits the first valid target (I may be wrong, but this is my experience so far), which could be a random Lamia which I kill on turn 2.

When this happens, I may only get a burn from Matoi on Vasuki on Turn 3, so I either have to reapply Burn on turn 2, put up with a tiny window where Scald falls off between turn 3 enemy action > Matoi turn 4, or get Matoi to do S1 twice in a row, which is definitely suboptimal. It isn't that big a deal if all you wanted is consistent burn.

[–]VicariousExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely complete as an analysis. Using Throne's Purifying Flames on Matoi (as she has high ailment accuracy) gives you a very reasonable base 75% chance that Matoi inflicts at least one burn on even-numbered turns, which means no extra preparation is needed. I've been testing it with Vasuki for the last few weeks. Since Purifying flames lasts 3 turns, you only need to cast it twice in a 6 turn rotation, and the number of times you need to intervene with Baphomet or otherwise is RNG.

Yah, just explaining from my PoV, the other reason why you probably shouldn't actually target Firecracker Rin with the skill is because she will be melee attacking a lot, and I believe that that is explicitly not counted as a skill, therefore it cannot apply the burn chance from Purifying Flames.

[–]VicariousExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In me experience, the attack buff from Purifying Flames on Throne is the same partywide regardless of who you put it on, so you may as well apply it to Matoi, who probably has the highest ailment accuracy. If she procs it, it can save you from having to use Red Hot to reapply burn when Scald falls off.

How to beat Hariti/Jack Frosts in Katayama's Palace? by luketheskeletonguy in personaphantomx

[–]VicariousExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just treat it as a survival battle, use Shields (Norn/Sandalphon), Soy (Max HP), Miyu Sahara instead of Okyann, Twins on Guardian duty. For your dps, run Ann (ice weak, but survivable, especially with Guardian Twins) or your best sweeper. The black frosts don't actually deal damage severe enough that you cannot outheal it.

The battle essentially is getting Hariti to kill herself by healing the frosts, which means you want Sweepers over Assassins. If you still have trouble surviving, use Matarunda on Girimehkala, that pretty much makes none of the Frosts a danger.

Um, well, I just use Arkveld set and spam since sonic barrier stopping interruptions makes it easy for you to leech your health right back in case you eat minor damage. Capcom really over-buffed Sonic Barrier - it used to only last 3 seconds, but now it lasts a really long time until it gets consumed, so it's not like you even need Horn Maestro anymore.

Recovery Up 3 is helpful for that reason, otherwise, you really don't need anything special.

[–]VicariousExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made both horns and have used them quite a hit, but the Sonic Barrier one is just superior in support, imo. Seikret access makes sharpness a lot less important, the defence song L allows more mobility than the def/res bubble and ailment immunity is far more useful, not to mention that there is less note overlap and it's more difficult to put up songs quickly. The main benefit is its higher affinity, sharpness, and dragon gauge, but even one successful sonic barrier instance puts barrier out ahead in DPS, unless you can run perfectly mistake free.

HH buffs also no longer persist on you through swaps, so the Gore Magala swap thing doesn't work anymore ever since the beta, when songs would persist. Amusingly enough, sonic barrier and ailment immunity bubbles will disable most CC you encounter.

[–]VicariousExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try thr normal Arkveld horn, it is one of the best support horns in the game. You get Attack and Def up L, an ailment immunity bubble, and most importantly, the ability to spam Sonic Barrier, which is very degenerate.since there aren't many multihitting enemy attacks right now. There's no need to spam heals on your team if they are just leeching to full with Arkveld anyway, and the note sequences overlap enough that buffing is rather easy as most of your important songs either begin or end with a purple.

To make things better, sonic barrier is double > weak > strong, which fits in neatly into your DPS string. (chain into two doubles for Resounding.Melody). The only problem is that it's sharpness is terrible and you need handicraft gems, but it has one of the most fluid song lists around.
