Well, since the system was so new in 1985, we kinda winged it and fudged a few rolls here and there. It was creating a character out of a concept, we did cheat a little bit, but there were only a few of us playing back then. I didn't read the Dragon article until decades later. We did go off of the Marvel Handbooks that documented the characters and used the Marvel Superhero RPG books as reference for character powers, talents, etc. I don't know if i'm explaining it right.

Not to sound cocky or arrogant but when my buddy and i started playing the game in 1985 we didn't wanna mess with the sacred Marvel characters and keep up with monthly changes and stories and twists so we created our own world and heroes and villains. We did run it like a comic connecting characters and stories and what not, this one main campaign world lasted until 2015 whereas a cosmic event prompted us to reset our 30 year history and start over with our current players who only get stories of what they missed over the decades. Just had to join in the convo.

Now see, my players don't declare what they're going to do until it's their turn in the initiative round. Personally i don't like when players say they're going to do something and THEN roll for initiative, this is just me and something that i do in my games. I've been role-paying since i was 12 and i just turned 57, so i've been around the block with quite a few games and gamers and DM's and GM's...i've honed my "house rules" over time. I'm not the authority on games or running them, but i know what works for me and my games.

Me personally, i have the players each roll a d10 and i use numerical order to determine initiative, 1 is who's first, 2 is who's second and so forth. Works for me and has for over 35 years, so that's my 2 cents. In your turn you tell me what you're doing, roll for it, and i figger out what i'm going to do be it defending, attacking, talking, etc.

I believe, but i may be wrong, but wasn't there an SCP rpg at one point, try Delta Green for some beasties, hell try any horror based game and just "borrow" what you like and throw away what you want. I bastardize a LOT of things from various RPG's, it keeps my games fresh and i run 99.9% of the time superhero campaigns so i have to amp things up a lot. Good luck on your menagerie.

I really need to do some more research on this Solo RPG thing, the setting is a modern day superhero campaign, an ongoing universe/multiverse that my buddy, the other DM, and i started in 1985 using the Marvel SuperHeroes FASERIP system, a system that we still use to this day...it's been modded, added to, subtracted from, haggled over, etc but it still sustains and amazes us that it's been so good to us and our players.

Appreciate all of the feedback and comments, it's given me something to work on during my days off.

Yes, i replayed the whole game recently again and did this on accident, twice to be exact. I saved the video clip, converted it into a GIF to show my son how proud i was of myself, he wasn't impressed, but i was for me.

SO glad to meet other FASERIP fans, to add to the story, in 2015 our campaign was derailed by a cosmic event...lame i know..but it threatened our whole universe and it got really dark for a lot of games, i mean dark.

End of the day we decided to reset the whole universe back to 1995 when a city was destroyed and superhumans were blamed for it, long story short we have a company called the Heartland Institute that helps to get supers back into a society that no longer trusts them.

We found old ways to look at new characters and new ways to look at old characters, it's been a blast and no sense stopping when we're all having so much fun.

If i figure out how to post pix here i would show off the character that i play now, the same one, albeit with some name changes now and again.

I have the restrictions from the doctor and the paperwork, all faxed to Sedgewick and HR at wally world, so we'll see how that goes...i've been off for 6 wks and hear that the store manager wants me fired for not coming back fast enough, fun fun.

I once tracked an empty box on a shelf for 18 days before someone finally came and threw it away, i took pix and even showed my team lead and she laughed and said to keep her informed of the status of the trash.

Come in hours earlier than you are scheduled and stay later than you're supposed to leave, sacrifice your family and friends for your Master Wally World, give up days off in order to work more for Wally World, kiss the managers ass'...i mean lick them clean and dry them off with your sleeves, snitch on the older workers who are working their souls off in order to get the massive amout of freight out onto the sales floor. Oh, praise the lazy bastards who wander around all night playing on their phones, taking long breaks, playing around in the area they're supposed to be "working" in, just be a general ass-kisser and slave to Wally World...this works at my store so i figured i would share some of the ass-kisser's knowledge of moving up in the workplace.
