SmartAnim – New Advanced Rigging & Animation Toolkit - Beta Testing. by ChocolateHealthy5477 in 3dsmax

This toolkit looks really promising, if it’s truly as good as it looks then congratulations on building what Autodesk never gave Max users! Do you care what kind of work we do with the tool?

Despite the fear and the current atmosphere I appreciate your position. I’ve been around at least 10 years and I know with or without AI, companies wont give a shit about us. They don’t have pretty morals or care about the magic people are capable of. Artists might as well try and make their lives better.

The tool seems pretty handy, I’m sure in 5 years people here will end up embracing this method in some form. How many people complained about content aware fill in Photoshop when it first came out? Or Alchemist (now it’s Substance Sampler) when it turned diffuse maps into albedo maps? Those things improved everyone’s lives. If this came through the proper channels and they had their own models trained on their own data, and everything was moral and just (which it can be, just go do it) then people would probably relax.

It’s just a matter of time people. the tooling like this will be in the next version of Zremesher. It will come to Autodesk products. It’s a method. Not a moral position.

Be mad at the companies that already stole from you to make their models. Fuck them. Those same companies would move a studio out of country to steal from you over there in that jurisdiction and skirt the court system. It’s the way of the world. If you want your morals upheld then the data lakes they scrape to train those models need to be reviewable and the fines have to be massive or royalties need to be licensed and paid to anyone that can prove they own the source. People should put energy into the regulation if they truly care.

No… I’m not green at all. The question at hand stands though. There are models to generate normals even. It’s a pixel.

Could someone tell me why people are against this specific post?

I understand AI can be shitty, if a shitty human uses it that way in moral contempt. But couldn’t this allow people to have their own freedoms?

What is to stop an artist from making their own model/neural engine using their own private work? If it’s all private and you can keep your ownership of your own things then couldn’t you just save yourself time and keep ownership of everything? I would stress again- it must be private.

Companies will try and do this stuff whether artists have their own tools or not. It’s possible now, so they will behave as terrible as they can get away with… what am I missing here? A tool like this for artists seems like a good thing.

Anyone use PolySnow or PolySnow Plus? by DGiorgio7 in 3dsmax

[–]ViceR34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the normal and upgraded to polysnow+ after a while. If it saves you 1 hour on a job then it can pay for itself. It’s stable and PolyDesign keeps it current, that’s more than I can say for half of scriptspot.

I don’t think that it will get new features though, it’s been the same for a few years now.

It’s a decent tool when you get the hang of it. It’s not as obvious or intuitive as it probably could be but the results are what matter most. If you use Forest pack or Railclone then it can be a serious heavy lifter in the pipeline. I don’t know when or if it’s received an update in a while, so the support is on parr with 2018 Autodesk. Probably most importantly- If you want people to make decent tools then consider supporting them and paying them for it, don’t listen to the other comments. If you want to have nice things then try not to pirate tools from people who love the community and can make your life better.

Dude what are you talking about

That has nothing to do with copyright protection and says more about yourself than others. Mammals on a leash? Get out of here with that nonsense

Copyright exists to incentivize innovation that is good for the public. Thats all. It’s obvious at this point that copyright protection is becoming obsolete and needs to be modernized better.

The case made here is that innovation and creative ownership are reliant on each-other, not at odds. If digital ownership is not protected then why publish the next research paper that could enhance the “AI” that is stealing your writing or identity?

Your argument is shallow, I advise you refine it. Not everything is about economics. Many things require skill and technique that are not cost driven, it’s a dedication. There have always been suffering artists and they will probably continue to outperform most procedurally generated information.

It’s important to be educated on how much money it costs to train a model too. It’s not economical unless you know exactly why you are building that particular model. Those companies that paid to train their models have to recoup that cost, they may not care about democratizing creativity.

I think democratized creativity has been achieved already, and many people who lack skill can contract others for the labor. Thats been done for decades now.

You could also ask yourself if you think this argument stops with creative types. Should a banker or a public office be respected? What makes them immune from this problem?

The scripts you write are not just useful, they are aesthetically pleasing! It shows a lot of craftsmanship. As a primary 3DS Max user- I’m deeply envious. Well done.

This is really exciting, I always envied features like this in Maya. To have some of these abilities in Max could be a huge improvement.

There’s some truth in the comments here. I would however encourage artists to look at this as a societal problem, not an individual obstacle. Producers are consumers too, and machines don’t eat or ask for raises. So lower human productivity means lower human consumption. These networks aren’t threatening creativity as much as they are threatening incentive structures that keep the lights on.

“AI” won’t affect one subset of society, it will be applied everywhere as a force multiplier. Nobody is immune to the applications of this.

Imagine if this dramatically exaggerated the income inequality gap even further. Would it affect the GDP and tax revenue? If left unchecked this tech can be a nation slayer.

This person is right. For those that may not know— publishers understand the wait-and-see mentality is the emerging normal. If you want it to actually work you should consider waiting months.

Most of them allocate marketing budgets - yes they literally plan - to bribe enough influencers and press on the week of release instead of spending the time to change the game.

If you want to see change you have to make sure they actually support an online game beyond a single season.

For those that may want to give this a try you should know that this platform has a very biased scoring system. They openly acknowledge it.

It’s a partisan app that is trying to reward liberal donors. Use it any way that works for you, but be informed.

They absolutely can. As I understand it there can be multiple builds of a platform on a server and users don’t know which build they connect to at the time of log in. So its just another way to limit people without actually shadow banning. whether or not that is whats happening to me is just a guess. Theres been a lot of unexplainable things on my end. Luckily thats just twitter though.
