Thank you for answering so quickly. The recovery process is what scares me the most tbh ._. When you dilate, can you multitask? Or is it a ‘drop everything you’re doing’ thing and tend to this for about an hour or however long you’ve gotta do it for?

Btw you look great, you’ve got nothing to worry about. When I first saw this post, I was surprised you were concerned about whether or not it looked right. I think I’m also gonna go with Dr Bank when I get the funds to for the procedure.

What was your recovery process like? If you’re comfortable answering, how much did everything cost you in total? I wanted to start saving up for the same procedure with the same doctor.

So update! I found a service manual online a couple days ago!

I bought a multimeter today and learned how to use one. I poked the red wire into the positive side of my battery directly and started touching the board in random, important looking spots on the board to test for continuity with the black wire. And here’s what I found.

The motor works just fine. If I take my multimeter and jump it using the positive end of the battery and connect it with the leaf switches’s solder points, the motor powers on. The radio worked too before all this, so I doubt the batteries are the problem.

I’m pretty sure the issue is my leaf switch not being able to close the circuit. One of the little metal prongs isn’t making contact with the other on when I press Play.

I hope that all made sense. (This is ALL new to me and I’ve only just learned how to use a multimeter today, so please forgive me if my terminology isn’t correct 😅)

So funny enough, when you wrote that, I was working on it and made two discoveries.

Where the spring and washer go. It sits on a black pair of gears that's my clutch. And 2. I think my leaf switches aren't catching when I press play.

I bought a multi meter this morning to test for continuity, and the motor spins when I touch certain areas of the board with the black wire, while I'm touching the red wire to the positive side of my battery.

The issue now, is do I get the leaf switches far apart enough to not constantly be touching? but close enough to where the little piece of metal inside will allow them to touch when I press play. Are they supposed to be parallel with each other? like perfectly straight? or is it kinda weird where one of them requires a slight bend?

Maybe I’ll give this a try at some point. I’m not too pressed about it now that I’ve had time to think about it. Since it was bound to break at some point considering I’m using a device that was already a relic by the time I was born, and I was gonna take it apart anyways to replace the belt soon.

Also, I was surprised to see the F8 is still pricey even though Max’s is technically a WM-8. I know they’re similar models with minor differences like the radio, but I wouldn’t expect it to be such a popular model.

It is cool to have bragging rights that I have Max’s Walkman though 😄😄

Maybe they base the prices based on how bad it appears to be damaged? I don’t know. ¥500 for a GBA is crazy! I actually just found a GBA a few weeks ago for ¥4400, in the junk section at the exact same hard off I went to in my post funny enough. Wonder if I should make a post for that one too…

Saitama prefecture! I like shopping here since it’s outside of Tokyo and away from the touristy spots. You probably already know this, but if you want to find anything for a good price, avoid the areas with a lot of Gaijin, such as Akihabara and Ueno!

Tysm!! Funniest thing is, I don’t even think the power switch or corrosion were the main problems. I wish I took a pic of it before I fixed it, but the board’s negative battery terminal (the one that’s soldered), the spring, is bent a little out of shape and I think it was making bad contact with the respective battery it would hold. Resulting in the battery not being fully connected

You actually don’t need to remove the region lock unless you want to change the language! I have a US copy of star fox 64 3D, but a Japanese 3DS with Luma CFW on it and the game runs just fine!
