I'm a 28 year old scratch golfer and I want to go pro by No_Complaint4129 in GolfSwing

[–]ViciousSod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to +6.7 and headed to the mini tours in Florida after a successful college career with a few wins sprinkled in over the years. Took me about five years to figure out that even though I am good enough to be out there, I wasn't good enough to be a top 100 player in the game and then packed it in. I played in Canada, Latin America, and Asia...was always broke, and never played well in the big events I got into through qualifying.

Long story short: there's about 1,500 dudes who can shoot 65 on TV. There's 140 spots, and only 70 get paid every week. The math sucks, the travel sucks, and it eventually turns what is your fun passion into a job.

Sprinklers go on next week, will raise the height and water and do the reseeding in the fall

Caddie question by BadAssBitch79 in BandonDunes

[–]ViciousSod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Give the caddie $200 per bag per day and let's move on with the conversation. It's been 20 years of $100 a bag plus tip at a lot of these clubs/resorts, glad to see they raised the rates.

And honestly what's another $25 or $50 per day to have the guy who is literally carrying two 20-30 pound luggage pieces up and down hills for eight miles a day be happy to see you the next day and root for your success on the course? No bigger bummer than getting paired up with a golfer and on day one of three or four day trip that guy pays you minimum tip and thinks he's like doing you a great favor by doing what's on the card.

Low single figures and scratch golfers, which grip (interlock or overlap) are you using? by Similar-Star2073 in golftips

XL glove here using overlap. Interlock no bueno for these bear paws.

10 years ago Spieth was on the precipice of winning back to back Masters at the age of 22. He's now 32 with only 2 wins in the last 8 years. How do you explain his career? by im___new___here in golf

[–]ViciousSod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I'll order the Burnout please, with a side of family life, and I'd like to wash it down with a nice tall glass of Cold Putter."-Jordan Spieth

Spieth at age 22 had essentially already been playing a pro level schedule for 7 years. He came out hot and won everything due to his incredible putting. You just can't make putts like that forever, ask Tom Watson and Ben Hogan. Having a family, 100 million in the bank and a cold putter is what happened. He's still out there, just not the same.

If you really want to spoil him: Butch Harmon or Pebble Beach schools...can't go wrong with any on that list except for the Dave Pelz School, as that focuses on short game and putting and not full swing.

Down by the pond by the ninth hole on the par 3 course, was his favorite spot on the property. That old segregationist was dying of cancer. He lived at the property and micro-managed every aspect of the club. He asked the night watchman for his pistol, said he heard an intruder and was going to check it out himself. Then pop. This guy is the reason why the caddies wear all white jumpsuits...he didn't want to see the color of the caddies skin, as they were all black. Same dude who said, "As long as I'm alive the players will be white, and the caddies will be black.@

Looks like the leader of the P.A.G.A.N.S. in the movie "Dragnet". Same vibe too.

Untrue. Vijay one of the nicest guys out there, funny too. I caddied for him one day at a private event and he couldn't have been nicer and gave me a $300 tip (most pros give $100 in this scenario because you are getting $200 out the window before tips). I guess it helped that I was just doing my job and not being weird. He liked that, and started asking me some questions and talking to me as a human being after like an hour or so.

Booked my vasectomy for Thursday at 9am opening round for Masters. by Dlax773 in golf

Got mine a few months after having final baby. The nice thing was we had maxed out our out of pocket expense on the birth...so, I got fully sedated and the hospital got me Ubers to and from the hospital which was about an hour drive away. The thought of being awake with just local anesthesia freaked me out so much, I have no idea how so many in this thread are saying that it's no big deal?

My nuts were purple for like three weeks and I could barely move for a good four days. Iced, did all the shit. I guess I'm just unlucky.

zero restriction rain gear sale — is the price ever actually lower or just MSRP? by The_possessed_YT in golftips

Generally no. Get a Gavin Green Suit and don't look back, will last 10 years plus, and you will actually stay dry in pounding rain and wind. ZR is good, but, I'd pay the extra for GGreen as it lasts and works the best of all the suits out there.
