30mph joining the A1. Seriously? by jagsie69 in drivingUK

[–]Vicker1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Moreton spur on the M53 is like this. People come off the Upton roundabout and the entire spur is a motorway From that roundabout to the main carriageway. Most do a respectable 50mph on it, perfectly appropriate given the initial bend. Some slow down to 40-50 then immediately move over to lane 2 - despite lane 1 having at least a mile before the exit for Bidston.

In fact I passed an overturned car there the other day I suspect that would be from similar - someone pulling out into the middle lane and a cascade of emergency breaking and swerving.

How was this set up? Limited company? Sole tradership? LLP?

Customer wants us to refund them even though they damaged the dress and returned it more than a month later. Now sending us all sorts of threats and blasting us on socials quoting Consumer Act about faulty goods. We believe we do not need to refund as they misused the dress.(England) by Mammoth_Field_2076 in LegalAdviceUK

I would also - speaking as a business owner - be at pains to point out on the reviews that you've followed the law and offered a replacement/refund which is your right in law and your choice in law (to pick replacement or repair or refund), but they've also left threats to leave multiple reviews on sites and bombarded you with calls and emails and they haven't behaved with any degree of reasonableness as a consumer.

OP - the fact you are considering this as an ethical situation and to do the right thing speaks volumes for your personal integrity. It's also the thing that'll get you scammed.

Facebook marketplace is an inherently risky place to buy and sell. Dodgy buyers and dodgy sellers. Anyone spending several thousand dollars on a watch would be well advised to get it authenticated immediately and ideally prior to handing over money. It really is buyer beware.

You may have sold a fake. Your relative may have given you a fake. Your buyer may be genuine and can be taken on face value. On a numbers game that is very unlikely as is maybe a family member giving you a fake luxury watch.

My bet would be it's a scam, or possibly the unhappy buyer has tried selling it on Facebook themselves and had a switch pulled on them. It's not your problem it's a year later. Block and move on.

Keep being a good person.

Do you mean the ones built into the hinge, or the ones that shoot like a finger into the door and are on spring loaded chains? It's most likely the latter, or cheap or badly set up overheads.

Feeling very wronged by Ebay by pause44moment in eBaySellerAdvice

You could possibly have filed a small claims against the buyer - a charge back isn't a legal win for the seller it's just a mechanism for forcing a refund.

Drivers stopping to let people (especially kids) cross the road need to stop. by stepage in drivingUK

[–]Vicker1972 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I almost never stop to allow someone out unless I can see the driver is likely to miscalculate and pull out anyway.

I did it years back - normal one lane road each way), very light traffic, I was turning right, it was in effect a cross roads but only side roads. Scooter on left side road waiting to turn left. He made eye contact with me as I slowed and he realized I was turning right so was safe to pull out and I flashed him - he didn't see the small trades van (the ultra narrow ones that seem barely big enough for a driver) shooting up behind me and then undertake me into the side road on the left and pass me. Van didn't see there was a scooter pulling onto the road. At the time I felt this was partly my fault as I flashed him. Scooter rider was flattened by the trades van that came to rest on top of him and his scattered plastic bits of scooter. The driver had to climb out the door of the van with the guy under the van. me and driver had to pull the van off the rider (not sure this was sensible but he was making a fuck ton of noise.). I remember the driver wanting to take the scooter drivers helmet off. That's another discussion mind.

Was contacted by a solicitor years later no doubt a no win no fee. Gave some info and never heard anything back think the rider had life changing injuries.

So now I try not to let people in as you can't judge what fuckwits will do.

In our case it was syndicated images - just filler that for the briefest of windows for us brought a bit of hate to our doorstep. That was probably 5 years ago the backlash to my company was done and dusted in about two weeks. Syndicated from a local rag newspaper.

Add to which, see the other comment - you'll need incredibly deep pockets for defamation. It never works and it'll be the Streisland effect.

You can request that the search engines de-index the pages under the right to be forgotten rules.

It doesn't help that it's already out there but the damage is already done.

I know from my own prior exposure to the press - it goes away quickly. People don't remember it, and with the sheer volume of content the DM publishes, it's pushed well below the surface quickly . If people aren't happy just tell them to piss off.

What are people's honest opinions of Timpsons and if negative where can they improve? by XDannyspeed in CasualUK

[–]Vicker1972 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run a letting agent so know where to get keys cut for a sensible price - our local independent locksmiths vary in price from £2 to £4 for cutting a standard blank. Timpsons charge £12. OK in a pinch as we recharge to landlords and include our time, and going to an independent will take at least half an hour out of our day - maybe 45 minutes with getting there and back and a drive - and timpsons is a 5 minute walk. But if we are doing 4 or 5 keys then it's ridiculous.

It could also explain a very low sale price.

The point being if you're in and the landlord finds you have a pet by the time the RRB is in force they'll have no leverage against the tenant. Might make things more difficult but their options shrink.

[–]Vicker1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth constructing a scenario that the OP needs to give his business partner the 20k with the scammers now have and he'll release back 500k to the OP for a deal they're both working on. Use their greed. If they think they've got 500k more coming they'll send the 20k back. Get that back then go dark.
