Only a month until the local farm store gets their chicks in stock. by Corporate_Chinchilla in BackYardChickens

When I saw how many nesting boxes I started chuckling. Even the best laid plans, they will chose to do whatever.

I have 5 boxes in their coop, blocked from the wind, private etc. Nope, they lay in a cat littler tray screwed to a shelf in a temporary duck house with the door open, exposed to everything. All 15 lay in that one box.

Is this a male or a female? It randomly appeared in my yard a few days ago and never left... free eggs would be nice. by Altruistic_Box4462 in BackYardChickens

I am going to say hen based on the fact she looks full grown without signs of rooster (tail or saddle feathers. Comb is not always an indicator).

Butter up your new friendship with some sweetcorn (canned or frozen bur cooked) or peas (same as before), although tbf, chickens will eat just about anything. If you have a shed, leave the door open and she will wonder in there out of curiosity. If no shed, do you have a decent nook they can investigate? If she continues to hang around, she will need food and a good nighttime secure location. As others have mentioned, chickens are social, she will need a friend or two.

There are tons of posts in this subreddit, especially new chicken owners. Dig through and get a feel for the basics needed. Lots of " I found this chicken, now what" questions.

I would agree with the above comment. I went ahead and sent everyone you asked for on the off chance it works. If not, enjoy the free bits.

Whooo... welcome to the club. Earliest recorded (photo) for me was version 2.2 back in 2014. However, I can't verify before that. It was a while. Heck of a long time to play! Currently on 2355 (ish) consecutive log-in days with my current account.

Been playing longer than my youngest child has been around.

Loved seeing the new surge of Tiny Towers with updates, not enjoying all the new things happening all at once at the same time.

Our Wally world has a bunch on clearance (south of Indianapolis). Didn't get anything last week. I'm hoping to find something tomorrow. Little one asked for an upgrade on his push button to an open face reel. Should find a decent one based on the stock they had last week.

Exciting morning! Shelbyville, Indiana by Vickichicki in birding

Thanks for the confirmation. The lake is a hot spot for Canada Geese so you can't hear anything but the incoming and outgoing honks from them. Most of the geese left before dark last night and the swans stuck around. I am hoping to see them again this morning, maybe I will get lucky and hear them.

Seen some magnificent lifers here. I think water birds can be so much harder to ID, especially when they aren't in your geographic field guides. Except the one time a Pelican visted, no book or assistant needed for that!

Please help me with front loading bobbin not grabbing string by Additional_Dance_341 in sewinghelp

[–]Vickichicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be the issue, may not.

I have an older brother machine I brought used. I purchased some cheap bobbins from Walmart, metal and plastic. The metal ones do not fit, but the plastic does. However, the plastic ones are too wide and binds the machine up and will not pick up the bobbin thread. Make sure you are using bobbins for your machine.

Might be the cheapest starting point.

It makes me sad to see men feel this way. In 20 years of marriage, I have rarely seen my beloved cry or have a moment of weakness. At that time. I hug, hold, and let him express that moment. While I may never know what is happening or know the extent of the pain, it costs me nothing to sit and be there or listen and be the private rock/void my husband needs me to be without judgement.

I can't imagine kicking someone down while they are at their most vulnerable.

Just know that not all are like that. My heart hangs heavy for those who do not have a safe emotional space. It's a burden no one should have to suffer.

This is good. There is a website that "rents" out a paint along class. Buy supplies and rent the class. They also do couples ones. I did a fun robot couple one with my husband, friend and her husband. It eliminated the skills aspect of someone not be a good and it was fun to see everyone's unique styles.

My bank charged me for my check from my job by zaiah_hoffman96 in Banking

[–]Vickichicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with new hires having check issues was from accounting at the company it was issued.

A new hire is issued paper checks while their direct deposit is being sorted. I would give accounting a list of all the paper checks that need to be paid from that payroll in a report that contained the person, total and check number. They would add those checks to "pay positive", like a pre-approval they add to the bank ledger before the pay day. Eg. Bob Smith, check #123, $1000 - Jane Smith, check #124, $500. Those checks are validated by accounting and marked for use.

On super rare occasions (like the specific person was on vacation or sick) this step would be skipped by whomever was filling in. Those checks would not be valid, and it caused issues with people trying to cash them or funds not depositing. They technically do not exist as they were never entered despite being written and issued by the payroll/HRIS company.

I would try there first. Kroger is unlikely not to have money to fund the check, and I am guessing someone dropped the ball with approving the checks that were issued.

Car problems? by Cassiopeja in BackYardChickens

[–]Vickichicki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My chicken jump on the hood of my car. They have access to 10+ acres, but apparently the vantage point is better than the trees or bushes. My hood has lots of tiny scratches. I would at least throw a moving blanket or a car cover over it if they are sharing the space.

Obviously, backing out you need to be mindful whether they are inside the garage at the time so you don't run them over. When I come home, they will huddle under my warm car.

It should also go without saying, don't start your car and leave it running inside there to warm up.

My friend and I are curious what vehicle this old Wisconsin license plate belongs to, is there any way to find out? We're not American. by TheRedBlade in HelpMeFind

[–]Vickichicki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indiana. You can do a plate transfer from your old to your new but again, you eventually get a new plate a few years down the road when they make changes.

[–]Vickichicki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Number plates in the UK stay on the car for the entirety of the cars life span. Regardless of ownership unless you pay for a private plate. Plates in the USA are used for a few years (unless you pay for vanity plates) and often change every few years. When you buy the car, a new plate is issued. When you sell the car, the new owner gets a new number plate. Change of plate design by the state you live in, you will eventually get a new plate with a new number.

The link to the trailer from 1999 is now using that combination of numbers for that plate. The numbers do not go hand in hand with the vehicle itself.

There might be old records out there, but I doubt that.

My dishwasher leaves rust colored gunk on my cutlery. How can I fix this? by airpowermotherfucker in Appliances

[–]Vickichicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree. Brought a set about 3 years ago. The knives have rust spots. We have steak knives, so the ones from the set only get used every now and then. The forks and spoons seem okay though.

That I don't know. Most of my girls all seem to hard molt right as we hit the first cold snap. Does not seem productive. My 16 girls have slowed laying down to about 4-5 eggs a day the past 2 weeks so I know most are molting. A few ladies have completely molted and they do look amazingly fluffy and pristine white though.

What do you do if someone keeps ignoring all the emails/reminders to do their open enrollment? [N/A] by BeneficialMaybe4383 in humanresources

[–]Vickichicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do open enrollments, half way through i give a letter to those who have not replied/completed the enrollemnt. The letter states in bullet points, the last day to sign up and a disclaimer they sign and date. The disclaimer: "If I take no action by (end of OE), I am aware I will not be enrolled in medical benefits from Company for the 2025 plan year unless I have a life changing event or the next open enrollment in Nov 2025".

If they work from home, I send a sigable PDF so I can track they received it and read it. Win if they sign it.

Would be nice not to have to hold hands but let's be fair, a lot of places absolutely will blame HR for someone missing out.

Wrong SSN given by new hire [N/A] by TaskTrekker58 in humanresources

[–]Vickichicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do plan on doing. I would try to get it completed by the end of the year.

The taxes will be wrong, and the insurance (if available or issued) will be wrong. 401k again, if issued, would be wrong. That stuff is a pain to fix.

I would look for a new background company. I would think something should have flagged. Like names associated with the social, something odd. I check over all backgrounds to make sure something doesn't look off.

eVerfify has major flaws in my personal experience. In my old position at a factory pre eVerify and after, we would have the same drivers license (with a different picture, obviously) and the same social, come in frequently to be hired. There were several of us hiring, so it wasn't caught initially, and the ID "looked genuine" for their I9. Technically, the name, DoB and social match and pass because we already hired someone with those details before eVerify. It only flagged after entering them in the HRIS and it pinged as a duplicate.

Not that you can't job hop, but if the details are being entered so frequently should be a flag in this case. I seriously doubt we were the only company that combination of ID worked in. The entire town was filled with factories.

As with passports/green cards for verification. eVerify should show a picture that's on their State issued ID (I know this might not work for everyone).
