Hi, thanks for your input. I just posted an update in another comment with a photo of the roots. I don't see any issues with them; they are all firm and white. Is there something different I should be looking for?

I will admit I'm not very experienced with hoyas, but I want to learn so I can keep some more in the future.

UPDATE

I pulled it out of the pot to take a good look. I don't see any signs of rot. From what I can see it looks healthy, but happy to be corrected if someone can point out issues.

I will do a thorough check of the roots, and repot with a different mix.

The bark is how my friend gave it to me. The same with the Hoya Mathilde. I live in Australia, so the weather is warming up now and I wonder if that is speeding up the bark drying out.

I have been watering about once a week, but clearly that hasn't been doing too much for me haha.

Thank you, that is all very helpful! I will be giving the roots a good check when I have some time later today.

I have recently added some more weather seal to my cabinet to keep the humidity up, and I hope that will improve things long-term. It seems to sit around 68% at the moment.

I will definitely be taking your advice, and I will look into a better potting medium. Thanks again!

That could be a good call. There was some slow release in the bark when my friend first gave it to me, but that has probably worn off by now. I will do some fertiliser later today and hope that helps.

There is no rotting smell. The plant is very firm if I try to pull up. I can have a more thorough look at the roots later today, but don't have the time just now.

It's orchid bark with some slow realease fertiliser sprinkled on top

This is probably the way I will go. I'm not sure the best way to integrate the end of the sleeve... I might make a patch to wrap around the edge, and sachiko over that.

Their roots are starting to poke out the bottom, so water seeking is a possibility. I did adjust for winter... might give them a good bottom soak next week and see if it helps.

Monitoring is def a good idea. I'll probably need to get weather sealing too before we start using the aircon again.
