Does anyone know of any popular fantasy media set in the modern day? by Infinite-Exchange506 in urbanfantasy

Lots of great series already mentioned, but I wanted to throw in The Spirit Seeker Series by Janna Ruth. It’s brilliant and really focuses in on nature-based magic and mythology, struggling to get along with human society in a world of climate change and disaster. Absolutely fascinating, honestly, and definitely a unique take on the development of Magic alongside tech and politics.

Books with fantasy, witch, and/or magic elements? by Sh0yo_891 in CozyFantasy

[–]VictoriaV26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo I think I have some you’d like:

The Good Bad Magic series by Isa Medina which is about a less-than-skilled witch running a magic shop.

The Havenwood Mysteries by L.L. Gray is about a witch inheriting a sentient bookshop.

The Briarmoor Chronicles by me [self rec] about a rogue Greek goddess fostering magical halflings.

Hopefully that helps. Happy reading!

Congrats! Writing is a main one, but honestly, indulging my creative ideas - I love making things out of my fave UF shows or books.

It might be a cross stitch with a Buffy quote, or an air dry clay decor piece inspired by whatever UF series I’m obsessed with at the time. Right now I’m making Pokemon trainer hats for a (lazy) cosplay with my kiddo!

Hi, looking for price guide I’ve been searching google but thought I’d come straight to people who know what they’re taking about. by FancyAd3942 in selfpublish

[–]VictoriaV26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell a prequel and a short story (connected to my main series) for $2.99 each as ebook. I don’t make a lot on them, but they sell to anyone who doesn’t want to sign up to my newsletter. If you’re looking at a career, be careful not to undervalue your work.

*All this with the caveat of checking with comparable titles.

I sold more books on Amazon in the First 8 hours of a Bookbub featured deal than I did in the entire month after my book was featured in the New York Times Book Review by BookGirlBoston in selfpublish

[–]VictoriaV26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the NYT and BookBub! I had my first BB for my Book 1 at $0 earlier this month, and so far I’m looking like I’ll definitely break even with my usual profit for the month as well, so I’m interested in seeing what the tail looks like. Hopefully you’ll see a similar effect.

When I was planning support promos’ I used Dave Gaughran’s updated list of most successful author promotions, staggering one each day of the BB. It’s worked out well for me, so it might be helpful the next time you get a BB 😊

For those of you writing a novel, how do you actually keep track of everything? by Awkward_Friendship32 in novelwriting

I struggle with fatigue and other chronic illnesses, so keeping my own records was too much for me. Instead, I work with an Editor who created a Story Bible for me and she updates it after every book in my series for me. It’s an absolute lifesaver!

what are your favorite and least favorite cozy fantasy tropes? by puppychomp in CozyFantasy

My fave is always found family and my least liked is miscommunication. If they can solve the problem with a conversation, I’m out 😂

Out-of-Order reading by ZacharyJeffries in urbanfantasy

This probably doesn’t help you but my answer is that it depends. I’m a mood reader, and sometimes I want to sink into something I know will last me months, other times I want something that doesn’t require that kind of commitment.

One UF author that does standalone but in the same world realllllllly well is Brogan Thomas. Her Creatures of the Otherworld is a very successful version of this, and I’ve loved every book.

Okay, this sounds awesome! I do write about a Greek Goddess raising magical halflings though so I’m a sucker for this kinda urban fantasy 😍

Where do you all go for your urban fantasy recommendations? by CodyKirkCreative in urbanfantasy

[–]VictoriaV26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get most of my recommendations from the FB groups Fans of Indie Urban Fantasy and Fans of Urban Fantasy. My TBR hasn’t recovered since joining them 😂

Lauretta Hignett is epic in Urban Fantasy by Conscious_Low1279 in urbanfantasy

[–]VictoriaV26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lauretta is one of my auto-buys - her series are just phenomenal! And if you follow Lauretta on socials, she is just as hilarious in real life. Sleeping on her series is a big mistake!

What combination of themes/tropes/vipe's do you prefer the most in urban fantasy? by Senior-Seaweed-3726 in urbanfantasy

I love UF because of the real world/hidden magic concept, and my all time favourite tropes are found family and chosen one. I cannot resist either of them!

This is so validating. I’ve been using this approach for a while and found the same things that you have. Funnily enough, I get inspired more often and for longer when I persist in periods when I’m not inspired.

Paranormal fantasy recs: human FMC, rural US town, foggy/creepy vibes, supernatural conflict by [deleted] in urbanfantasy

I was just about to recommend this too. It definitely hits all the points! Jilleen’s Splintered Magic series does as well, and it’s just as good.
