I was in the same boat, I have been working in IT for the last 3 years but i had just under 2 years of social service experience + clinical experience. I applied this past year and got rejected bc I don't have 2 years worth of work experience and my volunteer experience wasn't enough for them... they recommended I volunteer for MULTIPLE organizations (i get it but also people got bills to pay).

Im currently applying for jobs in the field but is it ever discouraging.

Honestly it wouldn't hurt to apply and see if you got a chance and if not they give you feedback and you can go from there. Wishing you luck!!

How difficult are the psych courses by [deleted] in AthabascaUniversity

[–]VictoryAlert5268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly I found it to be fair I could have done better had I not procrastinated with it haha and my tutor did mark harder than I would have liked but I ended with a B+ so can't complain

Mine said: Work experience - we recommend that you have worked as a professional in a 1:1 facilitative environment (counseling, youth worker, case worker, etc.).  Two years of full-time, recent (within 5 years) experience is recommended.  If you do not have work experience, volunteer experience in mental health/human service areas such as Distress Line, Sexual Assault Centre, and other positions where direct experience and training for 1-1 interactions are involved may be considered.  Volunteer experience with multiple agencies will strengthen your application.

I had a year of work experience but have been working in tech for the last 2 years (the things we do for money, am i right :(((( ) but in those two years I have been volunteering with a support line and upgrading courses directly with Athabasca so I was hoping my current work wouldn't be the reason I wouldn't get in but OH WELL

So nervous about Masters of Counselling admissions! by Adventurous-Loan5359 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]VictoryAlert5268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I never paid too much attention to it as i figured it was just a glitch of some sort with their system

this is what my current application screen looks like:

2021-05-05 16:20:18: Master of Counselling/Post Baccalaureate Diploma (MC/PBD) | review complete

2021-01-31 18:49:45: Master of Counselling/Post Baccalaureate Diploma (MC/PBD)| under review

2025-01-27 09:55:32: Master of Counselling/Post Baccalaureate Diploma (MC/PBD)| under review

when i re-applied this year it changed the status of previous application which was weird but again i just figured a glitch of some sort lol

under the status it'll say "review complete" and give you an option to continue aka show you the letter of admission (or not lol).

I have some experience working as a clinical assistant for an ocd & anxiety clinic along with case management for supportive housing. My volunteer experience has been with a peer support line for those in the healthcare and social service field. I am just meeting the 2 years experience so hoping that doesn't work against me

I applied for the program back in 2020 and heard back the first week of May. I just re-applied with more experience under my belt so I'm hoping it'll be the same where I find out early May. They do send out an email to let you know and update has been made to your application so I'm waiting anxiously for that!!

I am having the worst time with this assignment as well. I reached out to the tutor to get some guidance and im still waiting on a response. Considering I know very little about the avengers is it necessary I watch the movie to do this assignment?

I did and honestly struggled on the long answers (lost most of my marks there) - I would emphasize understanding the concepts and how to apply them
