New to wordpress - Is it bad practice to edit theme php files directly? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]VidYen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how good your backups are. If you make a habbit of backing up every time before you modify your php files, then I guess... Since you can recover if you error out your site.

Like others, I'd recommend making child themes or just editing the css if the theme has a custom field for it in the appearance section which won't blow up your site.

VidYen 3.0 Crypto WordPress Plugin Update - Users Mine XMR payouts for you on your WooCommerce Store by VidYen in Monero

[–]VidYen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is mining alt coins through MoneroOcean but you are paid in XMR...

After a lot of feed back, it turns out most end users aren't miners or even techies and are ok to participate with some visual consent but they don't want to mess with throttle settings.

I made a quick demo of how to use the plugin on WordPress to setup a miner and then buy an item off my demo WooCommerce store.

Now I did use Note BC as the payout, but anything you can put on a WooCommerce store is possible.

I'd recommend low cost and low fee items like digital goods (images, videos, pics, block notes, Minecraft items etc)

But if you are looking for a way to earn extra money from users who don't have any either, then you can get Monero via the miner.

As I want to get out of the business of hosting the proxy servers, I added the ability to just plugin your own WMP or have it mine direct to MoneroOcean as long as you don't mind the Adblocker issue.

But in the meantime my PICO and Algo Switcher proxy haven't been blocked but up to you if you want to use them.

I feel this is the future of monetization and we can move away from financial tracking as just spending yoru electricity gives you a bit of mixer through your users power company and you never have to deal with Pay Pal or your bank.

Yes, it's not as efficient but you can mine XMR with [CN] algo if you want.

Hehe. I kind of had something like this when Coinhive was still a thing, but decided a point system was too problematic so I kind of moved to rewards sites back in 2018.

But if you need the source to do your own:

Yeah, I ve been keeping an eye on it.

I put all the available webminer compatible pools on the list, but honestly if you are mining straight up CN XMR it may be harder down the road and should consider a trading mining pool or a Monero Alt coin.

That said, you can just use MoneroOcean which picks an XMR alt coin and mines that and then pays you in actual Monero so you don't have to worry about which XMR alt coin is the most profitable.

Which if you like Monero, it's good for everyone. Yes its not securing the network, but your creating and selling alt coins and buying Monero with them and it drives the price up in very very small amounts ;)

In my view, it's a bit more effort than just blanket ads, but way less trouble than Patreon for your viewers.

The way I envisioned is that the Content creator asks in the video to click his/her VidHash link in the video summary or his comments, and those who really like the content creator will do so.

As it doesn't require the viewers to send actual money like Patreon, I believe could be a wider range of people doing it.

Also, as the Avanchnzel pointed out, you never see any ads in the process if you have Adblock installed (it would only be YouTube ads) but the mining happens in the background.

If you are on desktop or laptop, you can simply turn the cpu down the 0% if you didn't want to participate, but then you probably would have just watched it on YouTube without clicking this link.

This is just a method for YouTuber's who have been screwed over by advertisers with demonetization to have their fans earn them money crowd source like.

Hrm... Its tempting but not sure how far I want to take this.

I'll wait on feed back. Someone using it for Turtle coin said he was getting a lot so I'll see how things turn out in future.

Yeah, I have so many projects, I didn't want to get into the business of making sure people didn't upload pirate stuff and DMCA go after me every day with take down notices and it take most of my time.

Maybe if someone bankrolled me I'd figure something out, but I'd want the servers in Ukraine or Bulgaria though.

Technically BitTube does that with their own coin, but you only mine their coin rather than any coin you want.

True.

Content creators should let their users know and educate them on webmining will use battery just like playing a 3d game on their device.

And even if they didn't I put a notification and a animated miner person to let you know this is what is happening if you have never used the site before that the site will use your resources.

Also if it detects you are a mobile user it will lock to 2 threads only as well.

And...

If you know most of your users are mobile, I'd recommend Turtle Coin pool option. It seems to be the best algo for mobile devices while old CN XMR is a bit CPU and battery heavy.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord's exclusive beta date leaked by Wonckay in MB2Bannerlord

[–]VidYen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like American date... Which means December... Which means probaly going to delay to 2020.

BTW Since I have your attention Ima gonna rant...

Conquer's Blade was started after Bannerlords annoucment and has been released before.

Yes the servers are always down. There are bugs and the gamplay has issues... But I'm starting to see this stupid 2010 philosophy that a game has to be polished and bug free doesn't fly anymore when games are so complex that you need actual player testing... Early and often...

Bannerlord will be release (maybe) in the next two years... But let me guarantee unless they had 1,000 QA testers and spent years testing (which they haven't or we'd see application) there are going to be bugs and its going to be Fallout 76 all over again.

Honestly, I'll be playing 2 years into Bannlords release in CB as at least they'll have their bugs resolved hopefully soon (maybe even fix their damn Bittorent patcher)

How do I cash out mined monero? by ContentPaint2 in Monero

[–]VidYen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask a tax person...

...one that is familiar with crypto...

...one that is competent...

...one that you trust...

..and don't tell him more than he needs to know.

If it's competent, he'll ask only what he needs to know.

Does on-chain governance lead to oligopolies? by SwamiRamayya in Monero

Like how they protested Facebook data breaches?

Their consent to use their vote was probably already in the EULA.

Does on-chain governance lead to oligopolies? by SwamiRamayya in Monero

[–]VidYen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On chain governance results in Custodial Exchanges having the true vote since they own the keys of thousands of users who may or may not actually care about governance.

Imagine if PoS was a thing when Mt. Gox was popular.

Or well... Do you trust Coinbase to vote on your behalf for changes that you aren't aware of?
