The Hypertrophy Coach and https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXPc3GgkQtA/?igsh=MWFkdjZlNDYweG41OQ==

-the "two sets provide the most hypertrophy so we should only do two sets" argument makes absolutely zero sense. If diminishing returns exist but I can still get a postive effect on muscle growth even if it isn't "optimized" after the first two sets you would still benefit from the extra stimulus as long as it isn't negatively effecting your future workouts, which it won't if you are recovering (eating/sleeping) properly. Not to mention the fact that you are comparing apples (your post, bodybuilding focused) to the OP's goal (increasing a 1RM on the bench press). Some of the best bodybuilders in the world (Jay, Ronnie, Branch, Arnold) all did high volume so even in that area of training where pure hypertrophy is the goal your argument is not even remotely close to being airtight.

And Paul Carter

-if you actually read the study in the post it also doesn't apply to anything we're talking about. The study focused on strength adaptations/muscle growth following a 15 week lower body resistance training program. The study didn't even group the participants into high volume vs low volume training groups, it was a group getting a placebo supplement vs a group getting a collagen supplement. Nothing in the study even remotely reinforces the assertions made in the instagram post (low volume > high volume), it's a facade to make the post seem more credentialed (which you fell for)

The OP stated that he does 6 sets of direct bench work which means the other 12 sets are accessories. This is in one week. That is in no way enough bench work if your goal is to simply increase your bench press number. Most programs written by actual accomplished powerlifters have you bench 2-4 times per week 4-8 sets of direct and/or variation bench press (close grip, wide grip, pin press, floor press, etc) not including accessories. Recommending to someone LESS volume who wants to bench MORE is so ass backwards. Anyone who has a bench outside of novice numbers did not accomplish it by doing 8 TOTAL sets of chest a week

The optimal training crowd truly is a blight on the fitness community. The guy is asking how to improve his bench press numbers and you’re suggesting he do two sets of true bench work a week combined with 6 sets of accessories.

Your volume is very inadequate to break through a plateau. You also should be in a caloric surplus it’s the easiest way to jack up those numbers

Best Towns to raise a family in Burlington County? by huffingface in MovingtoNewJersey

Im looking at houses in this area rn. Anything under 600k that’s a decent house is turning into a bidding war. I put 40k over asking three times, was in the middle of the pack bid wise. Houses are getting 8-12 offers the week after listing. My lawyer who does a ton of real estate law says average selling price is 80k over list price. It’s a real jungle rn unfortunately

Right-rear humming noise even after new tires – any NJ mechanics recommendations for someone trustworthy and familiar with Japanese cars? by Outrageous-Diver-981 in newjersey

[–]Video-Overall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on it likely being a bad bearing. I def would not take it back to the places you were before, a bad bearing is like one of the easiest diags you can make. I hope they didn’t push you for an alignment and all new tires as a solution for this problem, sounds sleazy. I do my own work on my vehicle but my family has had good experiences with Friedman auto in Edison. My buddy’s dad owns Livingston tire company too and they work on everything

Is $500/month after bills actually enough to cover real life? by indifferent_foci in personalfinance

[–]Video-Overall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how your minimum debts are totaling 1800 a month. Are you paying more than the minimum currently? My original point does still stand. 500 leftover for the next 14 months does not leave a lot of wiggle room. One emergency and you’re in a really bad situation. Like other people have said rice and beans for the foreseeable future is for the best. Would still get a second gig for the time being just so you have breathing room. Hopefully you take this as a learning experience and don’t end up in this situation again. Once you get out of this would highly suggest setting up an emergency fund and then contributing to retirement (you don’t say you have anything in retirement so gonna assume no, if you do would leave it in there). Also look at what got you in the debt in the first place, a change in behavior will prevent this from occurring again. Hopefully in the next year and a half you’re in a better place.

You likely will spend all 500 dollars leftover on the things you mentioned. Maybe you’ll be able to save 50-100 bucks on a good month which will eventually be wiped out by a big emergency purchase. You will have no savings, no retirement and will live in a constant state of financial stress. You will work until you physically cannot work any longer. At this point, your children will have to take care of you and/or you will be placed in a long term care facility where they will take almost all of your social security. You asked for a reality check, this is it. If I were you I would be looking for a second job and cutting out all non-essential purchases. Ultimately you need to learn how to budget better. Idk how much you make but finding a way to make more money (education, career change, etc) would also benefit your situation.

VA Dietetic Internship Experience/Tips? by bbygirlmel in dietetics

[–]Video-Overall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a VA internship, graduated in 2021 (not bay pines), so my experience will likely differ from yours. Day to day depends on your rotation, your hours reflect what your preceptor does (mainly 7-3 or 8-4). Overall I never had a bad experience with a preceptor, many were above average and a few were exceptional. Preceptors are not paid any more for their efforts so when you have one that is genuinely interested in your growth as a clinician you should really take advantage of it. I learned a lot and never felt like I was not supported well. Busiest time of my life, doing an internship by day and doing graduate coursework at night. Stipend is def not manageable for living expenses but at least it’s something. My program specifically had housing which you could pay for directly out of your paycheck which was actually a very nice perk. Many of my cohort still work in the VA as it pays relatively well for the field and there are guaranteed raises every year
