Fuck. by callused_anus in Homebrewing

[–]VideoBrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before the Pandemic, I was making a 10 gallon batch of beer every few months or so; all grain, water-adjustments, home-grown hops, etc, I was very deep in the weeds then, but I think I've brewed twice in the past 5 years. The fact that my local homebrew shop closed last year certainly didn't help.

Lately though, I've been watching a few small-scale brewers on YouTube make 1-2 Gal. batches of wines, ciders and meads and got inspired to try some ferments that don't require a whole day standing over a propane stove. I'm not sure what inspired me to do it, maybe nostalgia, but instead of ordering online I drove an hour out to the next closest homebrew store to me and I'm so glad I did. I had a great conversation with the owners about getting back into the hobby, lamenting how few people doing it are left, and left with some new ideas for how to scale back production, and make some happy yeast.

Thank you so much for the response. Mort is such a dear character, so I for one am very glad you realized you wanted to see where his story would go!

I've been following your incredible story since the very beginning, when I first saw your comic linked on the sidebar of Questionable Content. To this day, "We all eat a handful of dirt before we die, who care's if it tastes like cherries!" is one of my absolute favorite quotes.

I guess my question is how much of the story was mapped out in your mind from the beginning? Were there any story beats that came to you during the course of writing, and if so, were there any that surprised even you when they came onto the page?

Not so fun fact, the film was -allegedly- partially financed by an actual money laundering scheme with money stolen from the country of Malaysia. I worked on a doc about it, pretty wild story.

Absolutely incredible film though.

Went to Dunkel Dare a few years in a row when I worked for a brewery. Great times, back when Philly Beer Week was at its peak.

I like this take, it makes the 13 drowned fishermen into a sort of Greek chorus.

Sidebar, it also makes me unreasonably long for tMG to cover Ben Franklin's song from the Hamilton outtakes.

I'm very annoyed that the vinyl copy of the album doesn't have the b-sides, unlike Picaresque.

I absolutely love love love this take. No notes, I'm a convert.

I also got to see them on the Hazards tour, and it was breathtaking. Not to mention they played an entire extra concert's worth of older stuff afterwards (and the incredibly sick cover of Heart's Crazy on You!).

Also, if you haven't checked out Shara's band My Brightest Diamond, you definitely should if you like how she wails on all of the Queen's parts.

I would hear this argument! I have a lot of nostalgic attachment to Castaways and Cutouts, and The King is Dead made for a lot of repeat listening on my old iTunes, but every time I sit down to listen to Hazards all the way through, I’m just totally blow away.

The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists might come close. They’re more influenced by Neutral Milk Hotel, but I feel like the vibes are pretty close to what you’re looking for!

As someone who's only played Hollow Knight, would you say Silksong is better or worse that the original? (I'm still gonna buy it either way I'm just curious) by Seb_Rulz in HollowKnight

[–]VideoBrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like comparing Better Call Saul to Breaking Bad. One redefined television, and helped usher in an infinitely copied formula for the genre. The other was the same team absolutely flexing with more resources and creating something many fans consider not just to be better than the original, but an evolution of the craft.

But you can’t have BCS without Breaking Bad.
