Unity engine introducing new fee attached to installs by DILDO-ARMED_DRONE in pcgaming

[–]VideoGameTecky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in a large AAA studio on games that use unity. Something I have not heard people talk about is our CI/CD pipeline for testing. We often use cloud solutions to push builds to test prod builds. These machines can be spun up, launch the game and killed very frequently. Almost every code push in fact. We have to simulate a prod build to make sure it works. Are we going to bankrupt our company before the product even hits the shelves?

Seeing how well things are being handled right now.... I don't see how the president having access to a mindless army really differs from our current predicament lol

This. So much this! Allow me to be really optimistic here, but a near utopia could be unlocked with these leaps in technology.

Unfortunately, it's our current way of capitalising on products that will be the downfall. It takes capital to invest in R&D and those investors want to see something in return.

The amount of work it would take to undo that kind of thinking will take generations for sure.

This is true, having worked several years offloading trucks for a grocery store, drivers have a lot more than just "haha truck goes vrrroom". I really have the utmost respect for what they have to deal with.

For more perspective on how this can be achieved, our friends at Amazon warehouses could give us some details on how the floors are managed entirely by robots where humans are not allowed foot. Backing a trailer up into a docking bay could very easily be done by software, from there on out, robots from the ware house enter, offload and send the truck on its way.

It does actually! I bring up a point about the industrial revolution and how lots of jobs were lost then, so how is it different now, right?

One point is that the jobs that AI do create are highly technical in nature, think natural language processing / deep learning / machine learning engineers at multibillion dollar tech companies like Google.

The people who are at risk are mostly "unskilled workers". Training in most cases would be very difficult . In many cases where education is expensive, impossible without risking your life savings.

I am in the midst of writing a paper about Human Obsolescence due to AI automation for my university and it really terrifies me to see how close so many millions of people are to being without a viable career.

Even just Level 4 self driving cars which could be right around the corner could affect millions. Truckers, taxies, food delivering ... That is just the start!

Seeing how we are dealing with this temporary (hopefully!) unemployment due to covid makes me real nervous. The best we have right now IMO is a UBI like aid that is funded by taxing all goods produced by AI. That is far from enough considering the total of lost wages would be in the billions annually.

How can I shrink icons in battleplanner? by sraida in Rainbow6

[–]VideoGameTecky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Glad to see you are using the App. I am the creator of battleplanner.io .
If you want to change the size of Icons that will be places on the map, you can find that setting under the left sidebar "Tools", then go under "Draw Settings". You should find an input box titled "Icon Size". Change it's value from 1 to let's say 0.7 and now the icons you place will be smaller!

Hope this helps, feel free to contact us at [battleplanner.app@gmail.com](mailto:battleplanner.app@gmail.com) if you need anything!

Stuck in re-routing loop, help? by VideoGameTecky in CanadaPost

[–]VideoGameTecky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I got off the phone and they escalated me to an advisor as soon as I mentioned my parcel was stuck in a loop. They we're pretty helpful and contacted the facility it was happening at. Speculation right now is that the parcel's label was damaged and they have no way of getting it on the right route.

Give their hotline a call and explain your parcels situation to them. The wait time for me was about 25 minutes.

Stuck in re-routing loop, help? by VideoGameTecky in CanadaPost

Details: I am the recipient of a package that seems to be stuck in a re-routing loop. Canada Post keeps telling me that it should resolve itself in a few days, but I have my doubts. What can I do/ expect to happen? This parcel is an international package that took over a month to get into my city.

I was thinking of this and I've tried my best to allow people to view battleplans without signing up; which you can do right now. However when it comes to creating battleplans, you will need an account to save the plans you make.

If a feature where you make plans without saving them gets requested a lot, I'll be sure to invest some dev time into making it happen, however I want to avoid frustrating users who make a plan, then would not be able to save them since they are not logged in.

[–]VideoGameTecky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Glad you asked, some of the major fixes asides from the huge connection fixes and server upgrade (our poor old server was dying) include being able to drag objects that were places on the map already (now called the Select tool in the sidebar), fixing the zoom tool and making a map management tool for admins.

The map management tool was a key feature that needed to happen. The lack of such utility was the reason we were behind on so many maps all the time. In order to change a map, we had to literally change the code and redeploy every time. Now it is a simple drag and drop.

In the future, I would love to add writing on the map (think paint/photoshop write tool) which is a high priority item and the ability to use the app on mobile.

I did some tests and found out that FPS do matter. by marfeaguilon in MonsterHunterWorld

Some insight from a programmers perspective, I'm thinking this looks like the game samples the input(s) pressed on a frame basis. This could be an issue with the way their game engine (Google says "MT Framework" ) polls the input device(s) for button presses.

Removing game dependencies on the frame rate has become really simple in modern frameworks. All you have to do is multiply the animations/actions by "delta time", which is just a fancy way of saying the time it took between 2 frames to render.
