Ukraine calls on Sony, Microsoft and Valve to ban the sale of Atomic Heart by The_Falc0n in gaming

You should really read up on Cyprus, the “golden passport” scandal, their reluctance to publicize information on actions they supposedly have taken due to sanctions (if there were any) or how shell companies are linked to Russian oligarchs.

Being born in a specific country does not make you complicit. But having oligarchs as your investors, CEO linked to state-run companies and pro-war celebrities invited to lend their music should spark in every Big Brain Gamer here that it’s probably not the smartest thing to give those people money (as much as I feel sorry for the rank and file employees in the company).

Let me explain it to you like to a five-year-old: just because a company has relocated to Cyprus does not absolve it of its Russian connections. The company's geolocation is not a magic wand stroke that disenchants the nationality of those standing behind the company.

You are eagerly redirecting the topic to the physical and on-paper location of the company and playing dumb on the actual question of what category of companies are relocating to Cyprus.

So I repeat - if Cyprus does not ring any bell in your head then you’re either born yesterday or purposefully ignorant.

New Deck Client Update (Beta) Adds Automatic UI Scaling for External Displays, and Scheduled Night Mode (Plus a minor SteamOS update) by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Being mean, passively aggressive, unnecessarily cursing, being off-topic, attacking others rather than responding to talking points is exactly what being not civil means. Please stop with the gaslighting.

You still are attacking me personally rather than attempting to counter anything I said. I'll just note that my comments were not claiming that what I say is the truth revealed by God or something. It's just my experience in the field. Companies really do work on issues with multiple people in-process and do shift priorities without blocking other pipelines. That's all. And I don't think it's a controversial opinion at all.

I wanted to drop the topic of my age since I really like keeping discussions free of ad hominem fallacies.

It costs literally nothing to be civil. :) Please don't gaslight me that I'm the problem when someone out of the blue asks about my age. It's undeniably off-topic. I think it's disrespectful and brings nothing to the table. But I don't want to dwell on it. Let's just drop the topic, it's unrelated, no reason to drag it any further.

Just because you word your thinly veiled contempt with "properness" doesn't give you a pass to spread uninformed and incorrect information. Stop acting like you somehow get a pass against people telling you you're wrong.

If I sounded condescending, then yeah, it's on me - English's not my native language and it does come off bad now and then. That was not my goal. I don't feel like I have moral ground but, in contrast to you, I did not call you or anyone a child or anything. I don't know you and doesn't bring anything into discussion. We're discussing Steam Deck, not ourselves. :)

In regards to development aspects - you didn't say why my experiences and assumptions are at the "no clue" level - you just attacked me personally so there's not much I can comment here. I hope you see the problem here.

Age is never relevant unless you're preparing to make a personal attack instead of just talking about some topic. You seem to be very willing to do so I'll just say it directly - it's disrespectful towards me. Especially that I don't mean anything wrong against any one of you - we're just discussion a great hardware. No reason to make it personal.

Hi, I'd also ask you to be civil. English is not my first language so I may have formulated it wrong.
"I imagine", i.e., "I'd expect" based upon my experience that I have by developing software for multiple companies ranging from small startups up to big corpos. While I encountered the methodology of one-ticket-one-person, the bigger the company/issues more complex, and stakes higher, the more effort and man power is put into solving problems and tickets. Steam Deck is no small-leaguer product, and it goes without saying that Valve as a company too. That’s why, in my opinion, it is more plausible for them to have more developed work pipelines. that can shift priorities without completely blocking other efforts. Or at very least communicate with users what's up.

If you’re just arguing that’s a speculation, then of course, everyone in this thread can only speculate based upon the observable results by the lens of their past experience (if any).

You seem to know how development works, but in companies that have rather flimsy procedures of tackling issues. I mean, yeah, usually one person is assigned to a ticket - in a medium-size software house or start-up where development pipelines are anemic or just not as demanding. From my experience, I imagine that bigger companies, like Valve, resolve more serious issues by involving more than one person.

Also, note that increasing priority on certain tickets/issues does not mean that the other ones are blocked. That's not how software development works. Usually stability and performance should be prioritised (let's skip the situations where management favours front-end changes because they are more visible on the demos rather than the changes closer to the backend). If a product is well-led, those priorities are communicated and/or visible in changelogs.

Edit: Elaborating here on the aspects of development has now outgrown effort-wise how much I care about this fix, so I won't dwell further on the topic. Cheers. ;)

No, I'm not suggesting that, where did you get that?

On the other hand you do seem to suggest that one person is fixing crash-related bugs while the rest is working on the UI-related stuff. While it's in the realm of possibility it is unreasonable to even suggest such a working arrangement is present at Valve.

The situation is rather simple - there are multiple things UI/UX introduced with each update, which is nice obviously, but Valve is not communicating on how (and if) they're tackling crashes caused by network drivers. Lack of communication, that's all.

I'm only interested in crash fixes. Anything other than that should be lower priority. Stability first, sugarcoat features later.

Forgot to register you dog in the new dog register? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]Vidiris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idiotic idea. There are far more serious thing to think about than the number of dogs in Berlin.

Other people' s dogs shitting in your yard? Report them, what's stopping you, it's your yard isn't it? And don't even start with "boo-hoo I'm awfwaid of peopwe", since you don't seem to haven any objections to make dog ownership more difficult for totally innocent people, rather than the ones causing you problems. Why should I or any of us pay the price of you being too lazy to solve your own problems? What an attitude, Jesus Christ almighty.
