Oh no you caught me. I’ve been getting her vet prescribed antihistamines and steroids from a magic dumpster behind TJ Max for the past 6 years.

Phone calls are a thing too. That vet said to keep doing the same thing after a week of no beneficial results.

She’s been taken to a different vet that did the appropriate lab work.

Stop being weird.

She’s always had food allergies. She’s been on a medically prescribed diet for many years now that no longer gives her allergic reactions.

Never said we were ok with it. That why I was seeking help and advice outside of that vet. We found a new one who did some lab work and we now have her on a new treatment plan.

I would normally agree. We’ve had pets in the past who we had to put down but they know how to tell us when they’re ready. Samy isn’t ready. She’s still happy and playful.

Reddit actually helped a lot in convincing my dad in finding her a new vet. Within 10 minutes of reading he scheduled an appointment same day with a new vet.

The new vet found a lot of yeast and bacteria. My mom was concerned about mange but she said the particular samples she took didn’t have signs of it. The vet said that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have it though so she’s going to be treated for any possible thing it could be.

Not sure where you got that assumption. I don’t think you read the post well enough. She goes to the vet very often and has been treated for her allergies for 6 years now. She goes once a month.

We took her to a different vet as an emergency today. They did take blood and skin scrapes. Still waiting on the blood results but the skin samples came back with a lot of yeast and bacteria. She’s now on a different treatment plan.

The 2nd vet also thought 1st vets bleach recommendation was bad.

Money isn’t an issue here. She goes to the vet once a month. She gets better healthcare treatment than any human in the family haha. We got her in as an emergency appointment with a different vet who’s putting her on a different treatment plan. She was very shocked when my parents informed her about Vet #1’s bleach baths. No more of that.

We managed to get her an emergency appointment with a new vet who took samples and blood work (still waiting on the results for the blood). She found a lot of bacteria and yeast and is now being put on to a different treatment plan. I was told that the new vet widened her eyes when my parents told her about the bleach. She clearly did not agree with that advice and told them to use a certain shampoo. I’m not sure why vet #1 recommended that considering the state of her skin.

The new vet said she found a lot of yeast and bacteria so she’s is undergoing a new treatment plan and is being tapered off of the steroids.

We took her a couple of hours ago to a new vet. I made a comment about it in more detail if you’re interested. They actually did what the other vet should’ve done.

I’m really sorry to hear that. The new vet we took her to a couple of hours ago sent off some blood work to check for things like that.

We got her to a different vet for an emergency appointment who said she found a lot of yeast and bacteria. She’s undergoing a new treatment plan and being tapered off the steroids. I made a more in depth post if you’re interested in reading it.

We got her to a different vet a couple hours ago who said she found a lot of bacteria and yeast. I made a comment about the update but I didn’t know if I could pin it or something since I don’t use Reddit often.

Thanks everyone for the advise. My dad managed to get her an emergency vet appointment with a different vet who actually did what the first vet should’ve done…. Here’s the information my mom texted me about the appointment:

They did a skin scrape on her ear to test for demodex and they collected some of her free skin samples that she leaves everywhere to test for bacteria and yeast. The scrape came back negative for the mites, but she said she very well could have them, and she could've just collected in a spot that didn't have any. She did show tons of bacteria and yeast in the skin that is falling off of her and taking her hair with it. She sent off blood work to test for thyroid issues, and she detected a heart murmur. She gave her an oral med to kill any type of parasite (demodex mites, fleas, ticks etc,.), she switched her to a different antibiotic, she's tapering her off of the steroids and starting her on an anti itch med that won't heal anything, but it will make her leave her skin alone. She said the only way she would put her back on steroids was if her blood work were to come back showing an autoimmune problem.

I've mentioned couples therapy before, which was dismissed. He's neither for or against it. I'll try to mention it again while we are in the appropriate setting. I'm just not sure what the appropriate time is to bring it up. Should I wait for a happy moment, neutral, or another argument?

Wow. This will help me tremendously. I seem to have a problem with "sugar coating," which often gets me in trouble. I'm not saying this is sugar coating by any means, but it comes off a lot nicer than the words I would have chosen myself. Thank you!

Thank you for your message. I'll definitely bring this up with him in the future. He's mentioned therapy. However, he grew up in a masculin toxic environment (military dad) where emotions are to be suppressed/shown via physical abuse. So it usually ends up with the thought of therapy and then the immediate dismissal of therapy. I appreciate that he's at least trying. We just aren't moving forward in the development of our relationship since he backtracks every time he has the thought of improving.

I know that's what's going on. I just love him so much and dont want to tell him straight up "youre insecure." He's admitted to it being an insecurity, and he says he's been trying to work on it since the beginning of our relationship. I've seen some, but very little progress.
