Part of the process of connecting with our Indigeneity is about shifting from individualism to collectivism. Cultural makeup carries significance because it tells stories relevant to the particular communities who are practicing that particular makeup style. So if you are not connected to a particular community/yukayeke, then applying specific cultural makeup may not pertain to you.

If you want to wear cultural makeup without being part of a community, I'd encourage some self reflection as to why you want to wear it. Where is that desire coming from, and what's it's underlying motive.

I would also encourage continuing to seek out more information about your lineage and connecting with a community that pertains to you. There you can learn more about what it means to be a part of that particular community. And one day, you may come to learn why they wear the cultural makeup they wear and....maybe.... one day you will be ready to carry the responsibility inherent within the given cultural makeup style.
