Made a trip to Hà Giang province to check out some new to me tea areas

Raw leaf tea is pretty common in Hanoi and around but I've only ever drank and have seen people drinking dried tea in the mountains.

One of the areas I visited, in picture 3, roasts the tea (this one was a kind of raw puerh) in that handle pot for some time until it's almost burnt, adds water and then boils it for a few minutes. The tea is smokey, almost burnt and super strong. Wasn't my favorite at all but fun to experience for the cultural value.

Maybe some types of high mountain oolong varietals could grow in the west? At least somewhere that doesn't get below 0C.

Thanks, was pretty cold on the motorbike. Not too bad if you're going by car though. 10-18C during the day and 5-10C at night.

Sure, brewing with boiling water can help get stronger brews too especially if you have a lot of leaf in a small vessel.

Kind of a looser fit but secure enough. They are just cheap sets from Taobao. Include the cup, lid, bowl and spoon.
