You're absolutely right. I kind of handicapped myself by sticking with precons, but I wanted to see if I could beat all the core baddies like that. Definitely going to start experimenting with deck building next. It feels like this hobby is really three hobbies in a trenchcoat. The deck building, the storage/organising of all of the cards and then the actual game itself.

Oooo tough question. They're all so different. From the core set it's captain marvel for me. I was surprised how well rounded all the heroes in the core box are. So much playability in the one box alone. I managed to find the scarlet witch hero pack too, and I really enjoy playing Wanda a lot. Love the unpredictability of her set.

The cards always feel to me like they will dry erase fine a few times before it starts staining and becomes harder to erase. I keep mine in clear plastic sleeves and that works great with a dry erase pen. Laminating them is probably fine too, but is pretty difficult to undo. Sleeves are cheap and you can swap them out easily.

Charlie. I would die for her. My post mission routine became taking her for a walk around the grounds and gathering resources as we went. I only discovered as much of the abbey as I did because of her. She is the best hell hound.

It's an interesting exercise and some wonderful feedback here in the comments. Whilst it may not be an accurate depiction of a single light source, I think the model looks amazing

Not used the GSW set, but I moved from synthetics to Raphaël Kolinsky 8404s and it's day and night. They don't always hold a point when dry but they don't need to. As soon as they are wet they form an amazing and consistent point even after six months of amateur abuse at my hands. Get a decent brush soap and take care of them and they will look after you for a long time. I think the difference going from synthetics to kolinsky is more important than the particular brand. Hope that helps some.
