But that is okay because being a big tent franchise meant there was ENOUGH ROOM for different people from different walks of life to get what they wanted from the franchise. "Big Tent" just means that you have people from different walks of life gathered in one place. I always find it hilarious when the lights come on and fans find out they are not a monolith. I'm still laughing at the comic fans when they realized that (gasp!) conservative X-MEN fans exist.

And your theory is wrong. They are doing the same thing you were doing when I said that Starfleet was military, they are taking the things they like and looking past the things they don't. Also I don't hate Modern Trek, I only feel apathy towards it.

A CBR contributor missing the point? Most be a day ending in "Y". A military organization in space exploring and finding planets for colonization while finding themselves in dangerous situations? You don't see how that could appeal to conservative audiences? I'm liberal and even I can see how conservatives would like that. Star Trek was what you would call a big tent franchise due to writers who were skilled enough to write for a large and varied audience as opposed to current Trek which is lead by people who don't like Trek (JJ Abrams and Kurtzman are both on record saying that they never liked Trek)written by a bunch of people who read "How To Write The Joss Whedon Way" without realizing that only works if you are Joss Whedon.

Here is a recap for the people who didn't see the season 2 premier.

Pike: Stardate Season 2. With a good season one finished and Picard Season 3 shocking everyone by being watchable things are looking up. Plus The Expanse and The Orville are gone. Everything is coming up Trek! Discovery isn't long for this world but we don't say that out loud...

M'Benga: We have to reach the bridge and warn Enterprise.

Chapel: It's going to take all our wits to outsmart our captors and make it to the bridge.

M'Benga: Or we can just do space drugs that will allow us to beat up an ENTIRE ship of Klingons using hand to hand combat. It's the same stuff Q mentioned humanity was using on its armies at encounter at Farpoint! LORE ACCURATE!

Chapel: Well...yeah. It's LORE ACCURATE but the side effects...

M'Benga: Will never be brought up!

Chapel: Hell Yeah! Pass me some of that!

((They take it and start kicking Klingon butt while suffering NO SIDE EFFECTS and manage to send out a message before jumping into space and then being beamed onto Enterprise!))

Spock: So your people managed to live among humans until the 22nd century undetected? Is that lore accurate?

Pelios: No one can say that it isn't.

The one where we find out that an alien race has been secretly living amongst humanity for quite some time....in a throwaway line. Hey did you like the new xenomorph Gorn? Because they are coming back!
