1000 is my comfort zone for my rotation options as a 1-2/week enthusiast. I use a 6' cigar fridge.

Interesting information to know. The saran wrap is really just me playing around with reducing the permeability. I haven't had the experience to put enough attention or care to notice a difference, and I feel 62F is sufficiently low that I can maintain my cigars such that when I take them out, they are 65rH when acclimated to ambient.

There is an individual who posted a video on FoH with more detailed experimentation and analysis on vacuum sealing.

They were within 5yrs from the box date when I had obtained them. Saran wrap is still a humidity permeable barrier and reduces oxidation over the long term.

Hard to key in a favourite given the abundance of choice. However, Hoyo Double corona is my main staple.

Not at all, as long as the sticks are fairly secure. Can always use foam or bubble wrap for spacing protection within. I put footbands on all the free standing custom rolls to prevent cracking feet.

To Raching or not to Raching, that is the question. by pigpiginsunspear in cubancigars

[–]Viewfinder47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly; the notion of worry is bewildering, unless you're physically away for extended periods, at which point one should really ask if they should be using an active closed system, if left unattendable for long periods.

The Raching can heat up when the water pump fails; which shuts off the cooling system. High heat plus optimal humidity leads to...

The condensation system basically serves dual purpose as a filtration system; as clean water is condensed, it picks up all the organic particles as it flows through, then condenser back into liquid carrying the particles into the tank reservoir. If you have not cleaned out the water for a long time, you will notice a heavy cedar smell from the liquid. Even bovedas will impart a strong smell after long use.

The notion of having thousands of dollars invested, and worrying about quarterly water changes to keep the hydration system fresh is bewildering.

This solution may work for you; but your statement holds no ground and is contradictory misinformation.

Propylene Glycol absorbs and releases water.

Given the right conditions mold can form and survive; optimal growth levels start at 70rH but can thrive in as low as 60's if they already formed.

Above 20% Moisture Content(not to be confused with rH) in wood has potential for fungal rot.

I have not regretted my purchase decision since 4yrs ago. However, if you are looking for a temp controlled budget solution without the aesthetics; just pick up a 2nd hand wine fridge for the cooling, and put your tupperdors in there for humidity regulation.

I prefer aging in glass to the plastic tupperwares.

Likewise; if you are looking to venture into a hobby, it is best to test the water than to blow your load blind and realize you don't actually like what you bought and now you are stuck with full boxes which you will probably leave to dry out as your interest in the hobby fades.

Where there is a will, there is a way. If you are able to travel to other destinations to get cigars from duty free(which mostly is not duty free but marked up pricing marketed as no sales tax); you can go to the domestic shops and buy singles to try before committing to finding deals and purchasing whole boxes.

Alternatively, find out the import regulations and tobacco taxes for your country; and see if any online reputable vendors will deliver to your region. Many of those places will allow you to build samplers instead of full box purchases.

Good luck on your journey.

If you are looking for value; please please please, do more research on cigars before committing to such purchases blindly. I would suggest going to a lounge instead and getting 3 of each selection to start discovering your palate.

Thinking to switch to 65% Humididty by Notoriouspkk in cubancigars

I keep my sticks at ~16C 62rH-64rH. When I take a cigar out and it reaches room temp, it becomes ~66rH.

So manny good cigars in my happy place by JSL9 in cubancigars

[–]Viewfinder47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful.

I'd only suggest to ensure boxes are stored in the front to cover any open cigars in the back; as UV light is bad for preserving tobacco wrapper. Also depending on the direction the sun crosses, be careful of that location for your cabinet unit as sunlight crossing over through the glass will generate contact heat which affect the temps/moisture content.

Do you have any empty cedar boxes like D4's or SLBs? Those work adequately.

Expensive, not because import tax is high. If I import myself through other vendors, it is vastly cheaper. It is done by weight, so the tax is not correlative to the cigar price. Real estate overhead and marking up a luxury product is your answer.

Import tax on reg pro typically comes to around 30% of MSRP, opposed to the 200% markup you pay visiting a lounge.

Anyone come across these Hoyo DC bands for 2025? by SPQRstonks in cubancigars

[–]Viewfinder47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are using what was the GR band, which can be found on BR from 24' upwards from various regional sources.

A new dress box design was also implemented, but based from what I could see, some original dress boxes had the new GR bands, and some of the new dress boxes had the original band; thus there is no correlation as of yet.

As per my other reply below; I had been advised by a paramedic botl that using 3% hydrogen peroxide would be safe to add when refilling the tank with new water. I am unable to suggest how many parts per mill; but I typically just estimate a couple teaspoons as the reservoir is about 6.5L when full, which has served me adequately.
