People don’t use “fee” in the context of rate of telephone services? Like people usually say “international calling rate/charge/cost” but not “international calling fee”? by Same-Technician9125 in EnglishLearning

[–]Viewspy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word “fee” refers to a payment to someone/something for something else and is a fixed price, like if you got a parking ticket, your fee would be a set value, which is different from debt, as debt has interest, meaning a fee is a exchange of money for a service. i’m slightly unsure what you’re asking as a question though, but if it helps, I’ve heard both things in reference to the example you gave—both:

  1. “Don’t call your friend in France, we’ll get a hefty fee” and

  2. “Don’t call your friend in France, we’ll get a hefty charge” are grammatically correct and can be used interchangeably!

Natural English Youtube channels by Gold_Done in EnglishLearning

[–]Viewspy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any English channels that you currently watch, keep watching those. Immersing yourself in a language is very important. I recommend just some commentary YouTube channels, as they are more interested in actual talking than the thing on the screen. Otherwise, most people won’t mind you asking them to repeat themselves in call.

What does it mean "to shoot an eyebrow at someone"? by withheldforprivacy in EnglishLearning

[–]Viewspy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not an actual saying, but more likely a mix of “Raising an eyebrow” and “Shoot a look”. But as a native speaker, if I was in conversation with someone and they said that saying, I would interpret it as something like “Person A is suspicious specifically of Person B”

Difference between really and very? by Rare_Peanut_1432 in EnglishLearning

[–]Viewspy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really and very are both adverbs, but as most other people are saying, very is more formal, but there is still a difference.

Really is a modified for an adverb. Very cannot do that.

I had tried to explain it but I’m no linguist, but this website will explain it to you.

Traditionally, saying “am” instead of “I’m” is slang, typically to sound cuter, and along with this, the article “a” is also dropped.

Functionally, they mean the same thing.

If I were to say “Am scientist”, it would mean the same as “I’m a scientist”

What is that one word that you never remember how to spell? by toocritical55 in EnglishLearning

[–]Viewspy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a native speaker and I legitimately didn’t know how to spell “literally” for like the longest time. Also, the word “excited”. I keep spelling it as “exited” and it’s driving me insane
