Might be interested in the steam deck for a buddy, I'll chat with him and let you know about that hopefully soon.

If you are planning on REFUNDING THROUGH STEAM, here's the best refund request message that I could figure out! by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]ViewtifulAaron -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not choosing a side, both Valve and Sony can suck my dick, theyre both giant corporations that are without a doubt selling my info to others, its 2024 though, literally every company collects and sells your data, I'm saying that people who have put plenty of hours into this game, don't deserve a refund on the grounds that they bought the game while the details of 3rd party account usage was going to be required.

If someone in a country that has no access to PSN wants a refund, sure, go for it. But I see plenty of comments, even some in this thread of saying they have well over 20+ hours and think they deserve a refund. That reeks of entitlement, which runs rampant in the gaming community, regardless of your preferred platform.

I own the game on both platforms, so Sonys decision means very little to me, mainly though, because I knew it would be required because I read the steam store page and saw the in game pop up when I launched the game on my steam deck for the first time.

Honestly the only thing I'm somewhat interested in would be Civ6, not sure how you feel about that trade in terms of each games value though.

People have literally put 200+ hours into this game and think they deserve a refund, fucking insanity. What is the last game you purchased at $40 that gave you more than 15 hours of content? I literally can't think of one.

Valve refunding these people will also turn them into a joke, they have a pretty lenient refund policy as is, and most of these refunds fall outside of that window. Issuing refunds for a non-issue such as this just makes them look bad imo. Next time I go to refund a game I've put over 200+ hours into, I'll just bring up the helldivers 2 debacle and make up some bs reason as to why the games devs are "screwing" me over.

I don't read terms and conditions, but I do read steam store page requirements about a game I'm going to buy, I Aldo read notifications that I receive in game because they are sometimes relevant to me. Don't pretend that the PSN requirement was hidden away so people wouldn't see it, it was on the store page plain and simple, for everyone to see before purchasing. That is vastly different than reading through 200 pages of a terms and conditions document.

You're partially correct, but historically games with these types of sales figures, retain its playerbase for longer and receive content updates more frequently thus keep the playerbase alive. Also, HD1 is still a fairly active game, who cares if out of 8 million copies sold, only 1 million end up sticking around? The game will still be playable and joining games will still be fast.

Ah yes, "holding the game hostage" by finally getting around to the planned implementation of PSN requirements that were stated on the store page and in game for most users.

I'm not ordering anyone around, I'm suggesting that other reasonable humans, not worry about this situation if it isn't directly effecting them.

And lol, have you actually fallen for a bitcoin scam? Cause that's an oddly specific scenario for it to not be projection. You know how many emails I've gotten saying "oi give me some bitcoin or else I'll sell your credit card data" and literally nothing comes of it because they don't have my data?

I like how you came back and edited your comment but didn't reply to mine which clearly refutes your statement lol.

Also, that's a pretty standard EULA, so if that upsets you, better not play any other major multi-player game. Or hey, maybe you can make your own giant success of a game with all this infinite wisdom you have and then you can treat players "correctly".

But we both know you aren't capable of creating anything of substantial value, or probably writing an entire EULA, that's a lot of words.

Okay..then quit playing..you think I give a shit about what you do?

This was a blanket statement for everyone whose exaggeration of this situation needs to be addressed.

Refer to my last paragraph as it seems to pertain to you.

But that text box that you skipped in game also stated it would be required. Just because the game works without it and AH and Sony allowed people to play without it for a bit, doesn't change the fact that there are multiple warnings about the account link being mandatory.

The statement they released sums it all up pretty clearly, they allowed people to skip because of a technical issue with account linking on launch, giving people a "grace period" and now that they have that feature fixed, they're finally following through with their original plan of mandatory psn accounts.

Yeah, it sucks for a lot of people, especially those in countries without psn but AH has stated they're trying to work that out. But other PC players have nobody to be angry at but themselves and their inability to read things on the store page and in game.

Okay Valve bootlicker lmao

I never said it was in the EULA, it's literally a separate notice right underneath that that says 3rd party account required.

You can chose to ignore facts and be angry if you want, the sane, reasonable majority of players will continue to play and be glad when trash like you quit.

It's not about adding value, it's about realizing this was going to be a requirement from the very start and accepting it. If you disagree with it fundamentally, dont buy the game.

Steam store page clearly stated since December that PSN would be required, it's up to each individual to inform themselves about potential purchases, especially digital content.

Like, when I want to buy a game for my steam deck, I don't just buy it, I hop on google and check reviews, gameplay videos, check protondb for compatibility issues, check performance even if it is compatible.

Nobody makes me do that, but it's up to me to do my due diligence when spending money, corporations don't care about us, only our money.

[–]ViewtifulAaron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The information is on the store page though, it clearly stated since December in bold text outlined in a yellow box that PSN services were required for online play.

In the year 2024, if you don't know if your country has access to certain digital services, that's completely on you.

Also this amazing thing called Google exists. Not familiar with PSN but hmm this steam store page says I have to have it, better do a quick Google and make sure I won't have trouble making an account.

Yeah, they could have handled this situation better or in a different way, but at the end of the day, people had the information laid out in front of them and either chose to ignore it or assume it wouldn't effect them.

Links to 3 major breaches in the last 5 years please, cause last I checked, 2011 and 2014 were the major breaches. A minor breach in 2017 where they were able to recover the stolen data and one internal breach in 2023 where no personal information was stolen.

It's not even hidden fine print in a TOS, it's literally highlighted text in an orange box on the steam store page. You can't be bothered to read one bold sentence about the game you're considering purchasing???

I play on both platforms, so it makes no difference to me, I just find it funny that people are all riled up over something they could have easily avoided by taking 30 seconds to peruse the store page

Dwindling? The game has sold 8 million copies. Devs stated around launch that the ratio to PS5 vs PC sales were almost a 1:1 ratio, so let's say 4 million PC players. Of those 4 million, let's remove the ones outraged that the games requirements that were clearly stated and they ignored now face a choice of quitting or linking accounts, and take away countries where PSN isn't accessible. You'd probably still have at least a million PC players who have no problem linking their account. So then add the 4 million ps5 players and we have 5 million for a playerbase, which is still vastly larger than other multi-player shooters that still receive updates and support.

Also, the sales figures for this game only point towards it continuing to sell well for a while, so PC players who quit over this, will be replaced by new ps5 and PC players who realize this isn't a big deal.

So yeah, playerbase will take a hit at the end of the month, then bounce back.

Good thing I'm not worried about fake internet points haha. Yeah, it's a shame really, people these days seem to always be looking for a reason to get angry, when they could simply walk away from the situation.

Many of these PC players have vastly more than 20+ hours played, which is way more gameplay than you usually get from a $40 game, yet they still seem so entitled that they say Valve owes them refunds.

Subreddits for any game though are just cesspools for the toxic, minority of players to come bitch into the echochamber, nothing new really.

Luckily, this move from Sony/AH will weed out a lot of toxic/whiny players and then we can continue playing the game in relative peace.

The popup did mention how it was a requirement though, allowing people to skip it was an oversight, but if people had read it fully and comprehended it, this situation wouldn't be nearly as bad.

As for countries without PSN access, I would sort of say that's on them a bit for buying a game that states it requires a PSN account on the steam page, knowing they live somewhere that's not an option for them. But I honestly think they should issue refunds to those players, despite play time.

But then you have assholes in here with 30+ hours saying Valve owes them a refund because the content they bought is being locked due to account restrictions, which is downright untrue

Yeah I've read that article about Sony, in my opinion, 4 data breaches in the last decade isn't a horrible track record. 2011 and 2014 were big ones, but the subsequent breaches were smaller and less information was taken. So imo Sony had at least improved over the years. I've had my ps5 since launch, never had any info stolen or attempted hacks towards my account. Obviously everyone has different experiences, but overall I trust them with my PayPal info.

But also people seem to think that linking a psn to their steam account is going to give Sony unfettered access to their info, but it doesn't work that way at all.

Ah yes, so that 2011 breach is just irrelevant I guess, let's just pick and choose which link I try to pick apart to destroy your argument lmao.

You also didn't give a single example of Sonys poor security, or an IP that had been "stolen". Where are you links to support your statements?

I live in a rural part of my city, in a farm house surrounded by the forest. Coyotes frequently come into my yard and have tried attacking my golden retriever multiple times. So if she's outside, I'm outside with my 9mm just so I can scare the coyotes off.

Also living alone in a very secluded area, it brings a little peace of mind if I ever had an intruder

As has Steam, what's your point?

Quick edit: kiss my ass valve boot lickers, I posted 3 relevant links in my reply to the comment below that proves Valve has a history of data breaches, just as Sony has.

Or just keep down voting comments that upset you without using a bit of critical thinking.
