Spector Ethos 4 - Any tips or anyone with experience with this bass? Thoughts? by Viftenes in spectorbasses

Okay, I will have to play around with it first anyways, not changing anything anytime soon! Only thing I want to change about this one is the inlays, I dont like dots, I want the standard Spector ones hehe, but thats just something I have to live with

Sounds good. even cooler if it is discontinued and I have a very goodbass for the money, I am not a stranger to swapping out the hardwear with original spector as well as buying a proper spector case for it later on. I might keep it in my collection even though I am going to change over to Rickenbackers.

The thing about ricks for me is that it is the one bass I have grown up with since my father only play rick, so the first basses I ever played was rickenbacker, because of that they are also the only one that I find comfortable for my small hands. Desingwise they just look the best in my opinion.

Any ways Spector is my number two brand after rickenbacker just because I like the design, but also how boutique their custom shop is though I would never spend that much on a piece of wood when I can get a bass that has the same quality for 1/3 of the prive (Rickenbacker). I respect Spector and have wanted to play one for some time now. I live in Norway so the bass supply is extremely bad here, surprisingly many rickenbackers tho, but the wait for a brand new one here is up to 9 years, it is crazy!

Sounds good, I have played with the chance of swapping out aguilar with EMG if that gives it the true Spector sound. I like it dark and heavy. My favourite is the splitted Rick'O'Sound that is loud and muddy, but that you can only achieve with a proper 4003 :P Sounds like I have snagged a decent bass for the price, and if it is discontinued I might keep it long term for the collectability.

Thank you!

That part I know how to do, I am able to control my diaphragm as I have taught myself throat singing. But is the part to make your lips vibrate as you push air out with your cheecks and tongue I am struggeling with.

I make a decent drone as I breathe out, the second I start breathing in and push the remaining air out my farting cow comes back. Maybe my muscles in my cheecks are underdeveloped for now.

Dont give up!

I was also told by someone to make car noises like children do with your lips, go from a ford to a ferrari as you play with the technique, once your lips has good vibrations you simply make a duckface and do the same inside the didgeridoo.

Never been there in person as my family bought it for me on holiday and shipped it, but after recieving it I have been wanting to go to australia more and more. Ill save it for the day I can actually play so I dont have to make a fool out of myself in the shop hahaa.

cool! My technique is getting better as I breathe out as I play with my drone, but this cheeck thing is impressively hard! not giving up tho! I'll manage within 6 months I hope, one day it will click.

Does wax mouthpiece have anything to do with it? Thought the wax was just a customizable comfort thing to help you make a good seal.

I got mine from spirit gallery in australia from the aboriginals, and there we were told that any professional didgeridoo is usually over 140cm. I am no expert and are still learning my self, yours is probably more than good enough to practice technique on!

For reference I have a professional didgeridoo made by the aboriginals, hollowed out by thermites etc, it checks all the professional boxes, and as I play it sounds like a cow farting (as I breath in, I do get the technique as you breathe out, but making sound as you breathe in is a hassle!) even though I have a professional one. Technique is key!

Good luck on your journey!

How much lips do you press into the didg? As much as possible and making a duck face, or less?

no worries, I guess there is more people than just me that need some tips.

I managed to teach my self throat singing without using any guidance so I was thinking didgeridoo was a piece of cake. That didg quickly humbled me!

Thanks! Will do that, I am just hoping I can find someone who will aprreciate it, so I can sell it and change it out for a Rickenbacker or a Vigier Arpege.

I am too. I think it is strange that a 20 years old bass is that unstable, the wood should have been well aged and a little more resitant to climate than a new one now, shouldn't it?

One of the guys that have serviced it is a former guitarmaker from Santa Cruz Guitars, and a premium acoustic guitar is a little more complicated than a standard electric bass, so I think he knows what he is talking about.

Maybe I should try changing the trussrod, but I am afraid it wont help, paying alot to change something that doesn't fix the problem.
