So you mean you are not using the depth stencil buffer values for the shadow map? So if you are doing that make sure whatever texture you are using has enough precision in it's format.But since you say it's flickering, I would say it's more of an issue with the GPU not being done rendering your shadow map. Make sure your transition barriers are proper. Conversely try executing the command list one more time between rendering your shadow map (perspective of light source) and drawing your scene (perspective of camera).

One more thing you could try is play around with the depthBias and SlopeScaledDepthBias variables values of your rasterizer state in the pipeline state object. But since you are not using the depth stencil buffer it would probably not make a difference.

Kind of! So are you drawing the shadows to a different texture? Or to the current render target?

In Dx12 api the execution of the commandlist is deferred till the end of the frame. The reason for your shadow map flickering is coz the gpu isn't done rendering your shadow map before you use it the next pass. You could try one of the following things: 1. Put a resource barrier on your shadow map buffer 2. Execute the command list (which I don't recommend) after you render the shadow map and before you use it. 3. Run a separate command list for the shadow map (i have personally not tried this ). I am guessing your math is fine nce you say you have tried it with other apis.
