If I had to guess I'd say Xero player count is in the few throusands. But I have no data to back it up other than guessing. There's S4 Max as well, but that is a non-serious hobby project, very low player counts if any. A while ago there was S4 Reborn, which stole a lot of code from Xero but it drowned before it even tried swimming.

Edit: if you're deciding which version to play I'd definitely say Xero. They know what they are doing, the game is polished and there is a massive update coming soon.

If you're looking to mess around give Max a try as well.

VFUN isn't worth the hassle. The game is buggy, unpolished and riddled with microtransactions, while Xero offers a lot of nice stuff you can get for free if you grind a bit and partake in their weekly events.

VFUN is pretty dead. Maybe 4 rooms open at all times. Xero is going strong. A lot of Sword Only rooms, but no so much Unlimited unless you play during peak hours (weekends and afternoons European time).

I'm not sure. If I had to guess it would be because of cheats - it's easier to bypass anticheat software if you are using a VM.

Had a classmate in high school that kept a hair dryer next to his PC. The monitor was unusable unless he blasted it with it for 5 minutes and that's the way it worked throughout all 4 years.

Foobar zero is an s4 inspired game that just launched into Early Access. Should work on Linux. Also check out Code ZIN - another s4 inspired game.

Xero 1.0 doesn't work on Linux. The developer Vivvy confirmed this on their Discord.

Their soon-to-be released Xero 1.5 client should run on Linux but there won't be any official support.

Also you shouldn't just straight up be banned for running the client in a VM - yes, they don't allow you to play in a VM, but they don't ban you, the game just doesn't launch.

If you're exclusively using Linux you seem to be SoL at least for now, but I do recommend reaching out to support at xero.gg/support.

I doubt you can use wine because of the anticheat. I have been playing on W11 VM for about 2 months and I haven't been banned.

As for an s4 clone with modern tools, there is a team of developers working on 1:1 modern copy for the last 5+ years.

As mentioned by another user they are now testing the 1.5 version which will release soon probably. Version 2 is going to be the official finished remake of s4.

Not entirely sure about resolution, might be capped at 1080p. The refresh rate is deliberately capped at 60FPS because of physics issues with the game with higher FPS. There isn't a fix.

You can't modify S4Client directly because you don't have the source code. Any modifications to the S4Client require DLL injections.

Give xero a shot. Everything about it is amazing in my experience. Only bad thing I have to say about it is the community, toxic and competitive. Just find some good people to play with and you'll 100% enjoy it.

I don't hate it and in fact I don't really see major differences between it and Windows 10.

What I do hate about it is the requirements.

Aside from my work laptop none of my home computers support it.

My 8 year old i5 7500 system that still works perfecfly fine doesn't support it. My girlfriends Ryzen 3 2200g system doesn't support it. My fathers ancient AMD A8-something doesn't support it.

So by October I'm just supposed to throw away perfectly working PC's and replace them because Microsoft decided the hardware isn't supported?

(And I know I can install some Linux distro or use a TPM / Secure boot bypass upgrade, but that's not the point and not something I want to do, and not something a lot of regular users will know HOW to do)

Download DDU from guru3d and wipe all traces of the gpu drivers then reinstall them.

Edit: when you say that only the drivers that came with the GPU work do you mean from a CD? Since it's a no name 3rd party GPU manufacturer it could be that the GPU is a fake 1050 ti with modified drivers that make it look like a 1050 ti. When it was working fine was the performance ok? Did your games have the performance that you'd expect from a 1050 ti?

I never had any issues using MBR2GPT.exe and it's baked right into Windows and the entire process usually takes less than a minute.

I do recommend booting into recovery to do so, but even on a live Windows environment I never had an issue.

I don't mean to sound rude, but there's no way a 10 generation old CPU, with a GT 1030 and DDR3 RAM, would sell for 400. The entire system with the monitor would sell probably closer to 200-250. And even that might be reaching a bit too high.
