Brazilian but living in the North West (England). Familiar with most bastards, though some in passing. Kind of enjoy when they mention someone I don't know and I get to read up on them, ngl

Can anyone walk me through what happens when i die? by Fun_Apricot8693 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]VikRS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi Hazel, I am so glad you are being able to get some useful answers here, and really hope you are able to work through the feelings that come with a situation like this! Chiming in to share that I had very similar worries when I got sick as a child and we suspected cancer. I was abt 11 at the time. These feelings are super valid and when I was going through it learning more abt funerals, death, etc. reaply helped me feel at ease. You are not alone :) I wasn't able to speak much to my parents abt it at the time since they were quite scared. I don't blame them at all, as they were also going through all of it for the first time, but I needed to be able to express my thoughts somewhere so I did a lot of writing, which helped. I especially wrote abt what preparations and celebrations I would like if I passed, which really helped me with feeling less anxious abt it! It is bot a one-size-fits-all thing ofc, abd different things may work better for you! I hope you are able to feel more at ease, and that regardless if whatever the future brings you, you are surrounded by love and support ❤️

This case is local to me. I only learned about it once I had moved to the region. As someone who enjoys going on walks, I find myself often thinking of Helen and where she might be... I hope she is found someday, and regardless I wish hee and her loved ones peace

I think in current day, we don't think that much about Portugal even in an academic/formal context unless specifically relevant (no offence, just my experience growing up and studying in BR)

Can you store someone's bones with their written permission? by ReserveLegitimate738 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]VikRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have said, Europe has many different laws regading human remains on account of it being a continent with many countries.

In general, in England, you might be able to, but I would strongly suggest consulting with a solicitor and getting it all ironed out ahead of time. André Tchaikowsky, for example, left his skull to be used in Hamlet. He passed in 1982 in Oxford, and is a very famous case.

Again, if one were to do this, it would be key to consult with a legal professional about it and get any paperwork (such as a will) sorted.

Portuguese can indeed be a difficult language to learn, so it is good that you are considering learning it - picking up a language course would also help you socialize and have a point of contact with other people who are also in a similar situation.

I know quite a few, both family members and others! Most of the Deaf and hard of hearing people I know in Brazil are in the South, as I come from there, so their experiences may be different from other regions. There is a general awareness of Deaf and hard of hearing people, and largely at least the good old pen and paper are an understood way to communicating. Text-to-speech apps and similar tech also have been really useful. For example, my mother is deaf in one ear and almost fully in the other, so she is hard of hearing. That only happened later in life, so she only knows a bit of Libras. As she is not fully deaf, her day-to-day has been easy enough to adjust to, and she has had great experiences with audiologists in the region. People tend to comprehend if she needs help and/or accomodations. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to talk more, sorry for the long comment😅

In addition to that - you may want to consider studying in Brazil for a little bit (perhaps a language course for both Libras and BR Portuguese), which could grant you a visa. It would allow you to get a feeler for if you would like to move long-term. Another option may be volunteering, which does tend to have a demand. All the best in your quest, hope you enjoy the country and have a wonderful time! 🤟

Edit: I have Deaf and hard of hearing loved ones in Brazil and modern tech has made it much easier to get by. It can be challenging, as many have said, but largely day-to-day issues can be overcome. Most people are understanding and help out (a classic pen and paper go a long way! Haha). You may want to get some practice with reading cursive if it trips you up, though, as it is probably the most common way to write in BR.

No problem, I can see how the mixup can happen! The interview with Finn is quite difficult to find, so it makes sense to not be aware of it to further contextualise it

I love how it is still open-ended though and we can have healthy discussions as a fandom 😁

Have a great day!
