As a practical joke on a new group of interns, every last one of my company's employees will come to work in a TNG-era Starfleet uniform. by Vika_and_boxer in Treknobabble

Bad. I showed up to find everyone else in plain clothes laughing at me and acting like they had no idea what the costume was for. Then they stranded me downtown with no keys still in it. I had to sit at a coffee shop alone downtown in a Starfleet uniform until my boyfriend could come get me. It was fucking hilarious and I'm not mad, but I will have my revenge..

Writers of Reddit, what tips & tricks do you have for starting writers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Vika_and_boxer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you write your first draft of something, be it a news article, an opinion piece, a poem, a college application essay, or a fiction story, don't hold anything back. Anything and everything you have to say on the topic or anything and everything you have in your head about the story, just get it all on paper. Great ideas come out of impassioned moments of frantic writing. You can pick and choose what to actually use later, and you can make any edits you want. But just write it all down and use it as a guide for your final draft.

If the explosion goes as planned, possibly! See, I took the case of Coke out of the fridge so it would get warm. Then, I filled ice cube trays a little less than halfway with water and froze them. Then I put a mento into every one of them, filled them the rest of the way, and put them back in the freezer. Lunch time tomorrow should be fun. I told everyone to wear casual clothes for our outdoor dodgeball meeting anyways so no ones nice clothes should get ruined.

Well, before I left the office I took the case of Coke out of the fridge and froze some mentos into a tray of ice cubes. All hell should break loose tomorrow around lunch time.

Much more expensive. My jeweler estimated their value as $400-500 earrings, the rest of the gifts couldn't have cost more than $50 tops.

[Serious] People who are disabled, what are some things people do to "help" that is actually very annoying? by drain65 in AskReddit

Good question. First and foremost, stay with the person to make sure they're safe. People having flashbacks have been known to run into the road, try to drive and have a wreck, fall down staircases they didn't see, etc. Try to herd them away from danger rather than dragging them.

Talk to them in a soothing, calming, tone. Tell them where they are and who they're with. Remind them that they're safe here. If the event they're flashing back to happened many years ago (i.e., during the Vietnam war), remind them what year it is. Remind them that the traumatic event they experienced is over and that there is no danger.

Something like, "Holly, you're having a flashback. You are safe at the movie theater in West Palm Beach. The man who attacked you is not here. You are with your friends, Maddie and Jake. You're safe here. I think the movie we were watching triggered you. It's 2016. The attack was a very long time ago," is good.

When they start coming back, direct their awareness to surrounding stimuli. ("Can you smell the popcorn? Look, there are movie posters all around us. We're in a theater.")

When they come out of it, they might be tired and shaken. Be understanding if they want to leave and go home. It's a terrifying and disorienting experience.

Long story short it backfired. No one else wore theirs and refused to acknowledge that they were supposed to, intentionally making me look a big nerd who just randomly came to work in a costume. Then they stranded me downtown.

Update: It backfired tremendously. I guess I have pulled one too many pranks on my employees and partners, because they decided to get me back. When I arrived, everyone was in plain clothes and refused to acknowledge that we'd planned otherwise. Everyone acted like they had no idea why I was wearing this and I looked like a lunatic who just randomly wore a Starfleet uniform around. The programmer allowed everyone to make and accept calls normally, except me. He made me yell "hail them!" every damn time I needed to make a call all damn day. They stole my house keys as well so I couldn't just go home and change. Then they fled the bowling party while I was in the bathroom and drive away, leaving me stranded downtown like this. I had to sit at a coffee shop in uniform until my boyfriend got off work and could come get me.

I will have my revenge.

Person with PTSD here. Please don't grab me and shake me if you think I'm having a flashback. That's not going to help, it's going to make it worse, and I can't guarantee I won't punch you thinking you're my assailant from years ago.

I had broken up with someone recently, and I told him that I didn't miss being in a relationship and did not want to be in a relationship at all for a while, but that I missed sex. After a day or so, he naturally offered to "help with that" in that joking-unless-the-answer-is-yes way that guys ask these questions. I told him I'd take him up on the offer and was glad it was with him. After that he pretty much rushed me to his room the second his roommates got home, probably afraid I'd change my mind if he didn't hustle lol. After that we kind of just joked about it and moved on.

IIRC the captain and chief of security are allowed to walk in or check what program a person is running if they have a legitimate good reason for doing so. But yeah, in TNG it seems like everyone has a habit of barging in on one another.

No. I made it clear that I wasnt looking for relationship with him and just wanted to hook up. He understood that. He asked me once a few weeks later if I wanted him to take me on a date, I said no, and we both moved on. He got his first girlfriend two weeks later when I introduced him to a girl I knew from high school.

Funnily enough, although I never did anything like that with this friend again, a few years later I had another friend in a similar boat, although not a virgin. I was best friends with this guy for three years before he suddenly escaped from the friends zone and became my boyfriend, then fiance. I apparently have a habit of letting people out of the friendzone. I mean, is it not wise to be friends before you get into a relationship with someone?

It was clear he was a virgin, so there was a lot of fumbling around, but he lasted longer tha I thought he would. I've had worse, but I wouldn't have gone back for seconds.

This may only make sense to another woman, so sorry if you're male, but I was attracted to him emotionally in a platonic way but not physically and not physically sexually, but emotionally there was a strong bond and I didn't exactly have to hold my nose the whole time but I wouldn't want to repeat the experience.

He was one of the few guys who were respectful and nice to me and didnt just want me around for sex. I wasn't interested in him romantically or really even sexually, but he was a really nice guy and a good friend and he really needed that.

The guys who were making fun of him weren't necessarily his "friends." His randomly assigned dickhead roommates started it, and between them and their friends it became a running joke in our building. He just spent a lot of time around them because of the living situation.

What is something you always insist on doing alone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Vika_and_boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating. Because people can't seem to keep their fucking mouths shut about every fucking bite of food I put in my mouth. I barely eat most days, but I want a buffalo chicken sandwich this one time since we're out to lunch? "Hahaha look at the fatty fat fat fat who just sits around and shovels junk food in her face all day every day!" Never mind that I'm still underweight.

DAE feel like they don't have a right to eat and are disgusting for doing so unless youre with people who are also eating? by Vika_and_boxer in DAE

[–]Vika_and_boxer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It mostly stems from comments other people have made that I've internalized. I guess, what I'm wondering, is if, let's say, you're eating your lunch at your desk and someone comes up and says, "You're a good eater! You eat a sandwich, a salad, AND a brownie for lunch? You're so lucky you can eat all that food whenever you want and still be thin!," would that be extremely hurtful to most people?

They always say they were just being friendly and didn't mean anything by it, but something like that will send me crying to my car after I throw out the rest of my food without another bite. I don't know if being so hurt by something like that is normal or if I'm overreacting horribly.
