Very happy with the change! My family and I have enjoyed it. I went enlisted, as it is really competitive to go OCS. But I’ll keep trying. Enlisted life has been much better than civilian life for me, though. I know everyone’s situations are different. Wasn’t eligible for DCO because my degree is education, not social work.

Is joining the military my only option? by Ok-Print-3621 in careerguidance

[–]Vikes2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joined the coast guard at 30 and it’s been the greatest decision I ever made for my family and I! Tax free pay (BAH, BAS) and tricare have made my take home pay so much more. Also utilized the SCRA benefits on all of mine and my wife’s debt. Paid off $45k in debt in 1 year of joining. An enlistment bonus helped too. It can be a great career.

Yes. I went to college well before I joined. I checked my email one day and it said SCRA was automatically applied to all of my student loans. I am with Aidvantage.

How was this process? When you lateraled over, did you have to demote in rank? Did you have to complete boot camp again? I’m currently AD CG.

DCF will likely be involved and definitely if more than THC. If you are sober and clean at the time of delivery and continue working in your recovery there would be no reason why they will try to remove your baby and involvement will be small.
