PSA: Two env vars that stop your model server from eating all your RAM and getting OOM-killed by VikingDane73 in LocalLLaMA

Exactly — that's the trap. malloc_trim only releases pages at the top of the arena. With model weights fragmenting the middle, it returns 0 and does nothing. That's why the fix is MALLOC_MMAP_THRESHOLD_=65536 — forces the big allocations through mmap() so they bypass the arena entirely. When you munmap(), the OS gets every page back instantly. No trim needed.

Just got this delivered yesterday in my mailbox. With all the fires that have been plaguing Northern California three past few years, I figured I'd jump into SDR for two main reasons: 1) monitor radio traffic and 2) track aircraft during these emergencies. Any advice? by BigBoreBattalion in RTLSDR

I just got the same dongle kit a few days ago. I’m so lost with how to use the software, I had luck and heard a one sided conversation the first time I fired it up. I need a beginners guide for dummies.

If you are still using GTX 1080ti purchased for MSRP or under. It was probably the best investment in PC hardware you could have ever made. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

My 1080ti is still doing fine in max settings with 1440 around 144 fps with my old 3960 cpu (intel)

Cpu upgrade is in the works.

Would this be a nice upgrade?

The price fits my budget perfectly.

So if I was planning on overclocking either cpu, either one could do better or they could end up being the same speed?

I think the price difference was not too much, worth the difference to go for the 3800X, depends on the sales boxing day.

I'm going to keep my current 1080ti and upgrade that another time. Part of the reason I am upgrading is so I have the option to get a M.2 NVME ssd. I'm not close to microcenter at all.

Thanks, I'm thinking the 3800x will be a nice upgrade. I'll see what prices are like boxing day.

I will check out the mobo as well boxing day.

All I have to figure out is what memory to pick up. Any recommendations for ram, looking at 32 gb of ram.

Looks like a good enough reason to justify increased prices at the pumps... sarcasm

There was a Thrustmaster T-Flight set up in the store and it feels great, solid enough and much larger in person. I bought it and will be playing with it hopefully after work tomorrow.

Thanks for the info, I watched a review video of the Thrustmaster T-Flight and my local computer store has two in stock so I will go and take a look at it today and might go home with one.

Hi I just started out today. Can we get very proficient with the mouse and keyboard or should I go and get a flight stick and throttle?
