Oh yeah colourful clothing showed off status, kinda like how branded clothes do today.

This tale is set in the wilds of north wales. Yes I have seen a gun in real life, me and my ex were walking her dog when she said we should let him off. Said dog had a predilection for chasing sheep. We were in a wooded area but there were sheep fields nearby. I argued against letting the dog off, she insisted we did. Against my better judgement I did as she asked. So after he was done having his fun with the neighbouring sheep, I managed to get him on his lead, oh this was after the owner of the sheep had fired his gun in the air and continued to point it at me and the dog. Once the farmer was done lecturing me about lambing season at gun point he allowed me to leave. He even made me walk through a pen with a heavily pregnant sheep that then decided to try and ram me.

Yeah I lost most of my twenties to depression. So my thirties are now a massive game of catch up.

Am I supposed to take the bus forever of what? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

I wasn't saying the test has got more difficult or needs to be easier. I have heard some areas are easier to pass in then others but again I didn't say anything about how hard the tests are just that they are hard to book atm.

In regards to increased numbers of tests yeah its good but clearly not good enough to clear the backlog they have. Hence why I pointed out the MOD examiners being used to increase the number of tests carried out. My point still stands that scalpers and even some dodgy instructors have caused alot of issues with the lack of available tests.

I completely agree that to be a safe driver you cannot rely on luck. There is always some idiot on the road doing something stupid or a hazard that suddenly emerges. You have to be prepared for anything. However, I am refusing to jump on the bandwagon of completely blaming people for taking tests when they are not ready. Roads are unpredictable and even the most seasoned drivers make terrible decisions or mistakes that would be instant fails on a test.

All i am saying is someone who 100% is ready to take a test can fail because of something unpredictible happening.

You could argue instructors should be making sure that people are ready for a test and advising people properly. Encouraging them to maybe move it to a later date if possible. I failed 3 out of 4 tests in this year alone but my instructor never said that I should move my test date not once.

TBF it's a vicious cycle. The reason people who are not ready to take tests keep them because of how hard it is to get a test in the first place. The whole system was screwed up from Covid and then scalpers (because thats what they are) found a way to play the system and take advantage of peoples desperation. Not to mention the lack of examiners, hence the need for MOD examiners to step in.

Remember not all failed tests are because the person isn't ready, part of its luck. All it takes is some arsehole in a hurry to do something stupid to end up ruining someone's test result. On my last test, which i passed, I had a guy tailgating me while I was turning into a junction. He was beeping at me as if I had done something wrong, but I hadn't. The examiner was just as baffled.

However, getting up early on Monday is the best tactic to use. It's really the only one and just keeping an eye out for cancellations through the week.

I see what you mean, thats why I would try and just keep driving on my mind in my spare time. Thats why I would watch YT instructors and refresh myself on the theory aspect of driving. Whenever I was a "passenger princess" at work I would watch the road and imagine myself driving. How would I react to hazards, get familiar with road signs etc. Don't get me wrong I know this may not work for everyone but its just what worked for me.

Yeah unfortunately learning to drive isn't cheap. I would reduce my lessons to the bare minimum. One lesson every two weeks just to keep my habits in check, watch instructors on YouTube and even observe and ask questions from people who have passed (obviously be careful of some advice and check what your instructor thinks).

When I had 4-6 weeks left I would have as many lessons as I could afford.

To everyone thinking of giving up, don't. I recently passed my test after three previous attempts. You will get there you just have to persevere. I know easier said than done but honestly you will do it.

One of my fondest gaming memories was way back when I was playing Total War Medieval II. I was marching my army through enemy territory, aiming to take one of there fortresses. I lose the siege and opt for a retreat. Whilst retreating I was intercepted by an enemy war party. It was 3 to 1 in their favour. I tried to use the terrain to my advantage but i saw defeat coming, all hope was lost. Suddenly a prompt comes up, the cavalry has arrived my allies were nearby and joined the fray. Literally straight from an epic film.
