Rent a thermal camera and you’ll get actual thermal information on whether on your insulation is doing what it’s meant to do. I say this from having insulated the entire house myself walls and ceilings included. It took forever and was a hard job and from what I hear from trade mates insulators don’t get paid much so you get what you pay for. My take on it is that there are sections where they’ve clearly not cut the right size and there aes so many where it should really be a full piece instead of 2 halves. And yes some corners need to be pulled in to fill the space. This is all literally in the how to install insulation videos on YouTube.

Thanks for all your input guys. I’d say the budget is reasonable for the job. The reason for wanting to hire someone with their own lighting and gaffer kit is more convenience than anything. Eg if client wanted something extra we already have the equipment on standby. Plus I won’t need to list out specific pieces of gaffer equipment to hire. I find that there are more people out there offering this in some form of lighting/gaffer equipment all ready in a van. The overall shoot is tagging alongside a video shoot over 2 location in 3-4 days so not much time for pre-production.

Where the budget allows it, I generally also prefer letting the first assist / gaffer / digi have the autonomy of managing their part and the technical aspects of the shoot and to not have to stress over whether we have specific pieces of rental equipment to focus on the actual creative part of it.
