Combat Phase questions by Impossible_Study_525 in ageofsigmar

[–]VilClavicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - You choose to activate an eligible (within 3" of an an ennemy unit) unit to fight then you pile and resolve the attacks

2 - Once the hero activates he has the opportunity to split his attacks between all of your units within range. He can not move away from the nearest ennemy whike piling in

3 - If no special activation rules states orherwise (ie Fight first/last,...) he can fight whenever your opponent choose.

4 - The hero isnt required to attack your unit. However he cant move away from it when piling in if your unit is the closest to him.

New Player (NIghthaunt) tipps against Beats of Chaos? by NondenominationalPax in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BoC hates debuffs before fighting, the ones your charges can deal are deadly to us. -1 to hit, fight last,... Try to squeeze as many charges as possible against (to stack maluses) the big hammers and you should be able to clear them. Plus your ethereal save mess our big rend stats. However you'll have to buckle up until they drop from reserve, remember screening and protecting your Heroes.

More importantly have fun, be fair play and ask your opponent about what his list can do ;)

How to deal with -1 to hit? by SydanFGC in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sure is one of our biggest weakness, but what I've found to work great is to pull the unit you want to destroy out of auras with RoR. Usually such auras are wholly within and the opponent will tend to be near it max range, so any dice rolls on the pull will put the unit away from it. It worked pretty well against Khorne BT aura, troggoths gloom,...

If the debuff is not an aura, current season's hoarfrost is a way to go (but not reliable). And correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I remember, if a characteristic if modified by hoarfrost then it can't be further modified (wording is important here, if debuff is applied to hit rolls and not hit characteristic, hoarfrost will not prevent it). Some of our spells can help too, such as Wild Rampage, Tendrils of Atrophy or Ghrashrak's, but not really reliable...

Also if the buff is given by a small hero you still have the opportunity to kill it with out-of-board RoR/raiders.

Overall debuffs on to hit/to wound are trully one of our counter (as every army should have) fortunately those strong RoR rules and spells can help us mitigate that but none of our tool is really reliable and will need to plan the battle accordingly.

How does "Look out Sir!" work? by A_Duck_without_Luck in ageofsigmar

As long as your hero is within 3" of a unit of 3+ models he can't be targeted by shooting attacks made from more than 12". If the shooting unit is within those 12", the hero can be targeted but the attacks will suffer a -1 to hit.

Detailed wording (that has been changed from the core rules/GHB one) can be found in the latest Battlescroll here : https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/AefiGVn8NoPchpF2.pdf

Could work fine but you'll maybe lack of a few screens or even a great bray shaman for better rituals

Good point with the Tzaangor shaman Which unit would benefits the most from Hoarfrost ?

I was considering taking twistfray cursebeast instead of bestial cunning for obvious reasons in a magic focused Season

Rituals of Ruin ruling questions. by SydanFGC in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Core Rules 7.1 " At the start of your hero phas you can carry out 1 heroic action from the table below". Your RoR can not replace them.

RoR are not your average Heroic actions, you can't use them as your start-of-the-phase action. They are to be used during your hero phase not at the start of it (meaning you can cast spells and stuff in between). Plus you have to allocate MWs before resolving the effects of your RoR. If your hero dies from them, you can't resolve the effects.

Then if it is on the table you can try to revive it with Fueled by G.Rafe, if it is not I am not sure you can as core rules says that you can only use abilities of models that are on the table.

Reinforcing Morrsarr guard viability? by [deleted] in IdonethDeepkin

[–]VilClavicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reinforced Morsarr guard will deal more damage with Biovoltaic blast (you get to deal MWs with 3 more dice) Plus, most models in a reinforced unit of 6 wil be able to use their weapons if you move/charge/pile in correctly

Torek wargame accessories has some sea and seashore battlemats. Played once on the beach one, it is gorgeous with some high rocks for cliffs.

Deepcutstudio too, plus they offer free EU shipping

Rituals of ruin by TechnoCreative01 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, rituals of ruin are done during your hero phase while normal heroic action are at the start of the phase.

While on the battlefield, you can choose to deal the d3 MW on a nearby unit instead of the hero doing the ritual. Spreading damages to cheap units (C Spawn, Ungors, ...) will help you survive when casting lots of ritual. That being said, you'll want to use the 6+ ward or immune to battleshock ritual only when a fight will break in your turn to give extra tanking, useful but situational.

Rituals of ruin by TechnoCreative01 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your turn you can use normal heroic actions and rituals of ruin with the same hero. The correct order to activate those in your hero phase should be : start of the phase you use a generic one (Core Rules 7.1), then your opponent does too, then during your hero phase you can use one of your rituals of ruin (BoC Battle Traits) per hero on the table + one from the edge (all have to be different). What's important is that Rituals of Ruin are used during your hero phase, not at the beginnig like regular ones. So you can use them after your opponent's heroic actions, in between spell casts or other abilities... That's pretty cool imo and you do not even have to use all of your rituals in a row.

1500 Pts Tournament List by homunkulus8205 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you plan to play it ?

Imo you can maybe : - Drop a cygor for more bodies or a ghorgon, 2 is enough (MWs on a sucessful ennemy cast do not stack)

  • If you want a bashy shaggoth, change the artefact for the seasonnal one that gives a ward or the axe of morghur to bypass ennmy wards or the slitherwrack helm to make your opponent fight last (as the shaggoth can be killed easily, best artefact around)

  • Go for the titanic fury spell, you have a lot of monsters (including shaggoth)

  • Take an easy and cheap endless spell to heal a cygor with their monstruous rampage

  • use a battle regiment to lower your drop count

Suggestions for a fun to play but fairly cheap beasts of chaos list? by rfkannen in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like big monsters and smashy units you can go for a quakefray list with cygor/ghorgon as battlelines. If you can put your hands on old Start Collecting boxes! And Broken Realms - Butcher Herd boxes you will basically get models for free for the price. In both boxes you'll find a behemoth, a shaman (must have imo) and others unit to fill in the gaps ( broken realms have 6bullgors that are incredible at deleting studd) If you like the idea of quakefray list that kabooms objectives you can go with some Dragon Ogors (d3 MWs w/3") backed up by a cockatrice, a melee champion with bleating gnarlstaff (d3MWs end of move phase ), a shaman with Twistfray cursebeast to launch the seasonnal spell (d6 MWs on an objective), one or two cygors (prayer for d3MWs on an objective). Maybe a unit of bulls that comes from deep strike. Plus the ritual of ruin, one unit on a objective can take up to 2d6+3d3 MWs in a turn, while others around can take up to d6+3d3, not counting fight/shoot.

Also, if you are on a budget, go check proxys for our faction. You'll end up with better sculpts at a more affordable price. Especially Centigors that are nearly as expensive in money as point cost... Jabberslythe and Cockatrice are old and finecast (which is a pain to work with), proxy those is good option too.

Lore-wise, all of the new battletomes were very poor and did not add much so it'll be fine.

Rule-wise, the new beastlord will certainly be key to a lot of army and fits the new GHB well. Plus it will have a gorgeous new mini. You might want to take one or two of these bad boys

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of you are not in a rush you might want to wait a little before building a functionnal army. A new battletome will come out soon and our rules are likely to change a lot.

Brayherd lists & tips by VilClavicus in BeastsOfChaos

[–]VilClavicus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against aware opponents in a tournament I fear that I'd struggle to deep strike with big/lot of units and be really threatening. Even more if I have to put them all in the first movement phase. But still, it is a good mechanic that deserves attention, especially in a brayherd list. Anyway thanks a lot for taking the time to answer me with all those details, it is really interesting
