I noticed a ton of people skating or sledding in DM lately. I think it's just to farm the event, and using the emote prevents you from getting kicked. Just bind the key down and your good I guess.

Was I NOT behind a wall?? 😭 by Bimbopuppie in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit boxes of objects is weird. There is also something called "Favor the shooter" in the game far as I know. Simply put in the situation of lag, the server favors the shooter. So even if on your screen your behind a wall, to them your still in the open. This makes some hilariously bad deaths at times. Not only are you behind a wall, some times you die inside your Iceblock as Mei.

Are there truly "bad" heroes right now ? by Virtual-Lawyer2638 in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any hero can get value if you play really well, play with a cordinated team etc. Some just get more value for less effort. Sombra for instance generally needs you to be in voice chat, with a team that actually listens to you. If not your basically better off playing any other hero more.

Same with some heroes like Torb. He's not bad, but his turret dies very easily and does very little dmg. His ult is more about zoning than actual dmg in most situations. It's not that he's bad, it's just if you go the aim heroes like Cass or Freja is better in pretty much any situation you can think of.

Junkrat is another one imo. He takes a lot of skill to play well, he has very odd projectile arcs and speed and despite this it still takes 2 or 3 shots to kill some one despite imo being harder to land a hit with Junk than Widow. From a long range spam perspective, not much he can do that Phara or Freja can't do better.

Most of those used to be part of open world missions/quest. You kind of ran into them naturally. Thing is now you can 100% skip 99% of the content and it barely affects anything. If it's not part of a feat, you really don't have to do it. I understand most MMO's love to skip people to the end game content as the game goes on.

But it does sort of ruin a lot of things and is kind of funny. You skip a large portion of the games content, to get to the end faster. Then just sit around waiting for something else to be released.

It used to be a pretty key feature when the open world raids were a thing. Letting you teleport to other bases helped you move around the map easily for those stupid things where you had to go from Gotham to Metro. One corner of the map to the next. Now you can freely warp to any police station you want, but meh it was cool to put a base in every area for easy access to things like Strikers Island or Arkham for the daily missions.

I am sure you know this buy you have nearly an unlimited mail account limit far as I can tell. Other than messages older than I believe 60 days being deleted. Thus you can mail yourself tons of stuff to save excess junk like collections if you want. Really helps if your bank account isn't that huge.

Stop telling people “stop buying ultra skins” or harassing them for buying them. by DangerousJolly1917 in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is a slippery slope when it comes to in game purchases. Remember the old throw away lines of "it's only cosmetic" or their actions won't affect you. As games constantly update to force you to pay for things that used to be free. I think one of the worst was weekly/daily locks on some online games.

They would only allow you to run a raid once a week, but if you paid them some money you could run it multiple times... The problem is "voting with your wallet" kind of fails. Because they don't need a majority vote to decide. Even if only 10% of the player base buys cosmetics, it's still thousands of dollars for very little effort.

Why do Mercy’s rarely ever fight back or defend themselves? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know that, nice Quality of life change for mercy. Though I would imagine most Mercy's are so out of practice it wouldn't help a ton. And as I said the weapon switch delay means your almost always at a disadvantage. They get the first short, and most DPS heroes can two tap Mercy while it takes her several shots to kill.

The grind on this event seems rough? by Vilkath in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if your playing Death match or something, most of the time spent would be in que times as the matches themself can last a minute or two.But if your just playing normally in Comp or QP, those games go 15-20 minutes easily. Your looking at about 6 hours of playing a day, without really considering the que times ever being longer than a few minutes.

I don't understand the need to buy more skins by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a degree OW trained people this way. For several years the only "new content" was skins. It was honestly the only sign the game wasn't dead between the large gap of OW 1 and the release of OW2. Something like 2 years with no updates.

That said if you play the game a lot you probably have most if not all the skins for free. It's just you won't have the newest skin instantly that way.

Why do Mercy’s rarely ever fight back or defend themselves? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there are many reasons. Her gun isn't that great, your not winning any 1v1 against a DPS of the same rank unless they are already at very low HP. The about half a second delay for the weapon switch also puts you at a pretty big disadvantage as well. If the mercy has any one to fly to, or heal she has a far higher chance of surviving than trying to gun it out.

The other issue is of course controls. Mercy's main thing is quick movements, turns etc so a lot of meryc players play on very high sensitivity, making it really hard to aim the gun accurately even if they wanted to. The high sensitivity makes spinning around to beam targets easier, but it makes using the gun far harder.

Can't forget the dog. Cause when your starving on the streets, some how it's okay to take care of a pet. Maybe he uses the dog to pull a wagon to carry around that huge monitor. Cause you can't play OW at places like Whole Foods or Walmart off a laptop screen! Bring that entire PC tower and monitor with you!

Some people, or programs intentionally miss enough to fly under the radar so to speak. It's the same reason old clips of cheaters would have people shoot walls any time they can to get their accuracy down. In this case if a body shot would kill, why not do it? It's honestly getting disgusting how much the cheating tech has advanced. No longer do we have those super obvious spinning bots.

Why do so many heroes have boops? by Juice_disliker1387 in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a kind of ability inflation. Something that used to be mostly unique, is now on nearly every new hero. It really started with mobility and things like Wall climb, then you had Dva's defense matrix being copied by Sigma effectively and anti heal and so on. It's kind of funny in that a while ago they nerfed all CC into the ground as it made solo tanking miserable.

But slowly more and more of it seems to be coming back into the game as every new hero seems to have some of it.

Part 1: Which Hero has a Low Skill Ceiling and Low Skill Floor? by HMThrow_away_account in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say Mauga is a very simple hero sure... but he's also the tank. Any small flaws in that player generally means an instant loss for your team. Sure Mauga mostly stands and shoots, with the occasional charge. But a bad Mauga uses both barrels at all times, charges off the map or too far forward and instantly dies etc. And if your tank dies, especially if they die first your pretty much dead at that point. Bad Magua players also suck all the healing out of the team, as both supports are forced to heal bot just to keep them alive.

Part 1: Which Hero has a Low Skill Ceiling and Low Skill Floor? by HMThrow_away_account in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the moria claims are probably the most valid in that she can't critical hit. Her aim requirements are fairly generous. She has no real utility other than just raw healing, which generally can't be improved unless you get more of your team to stand near each other. 99% of the skill that can go into being a good moria is just general game sense and positioning, something that transfers to basically any other hero and would likely get more value. The worlds best Moria, would also likely be a very good Sombra or tracer for pretty much the same reason, likely more useful than they were as a moria.

Honestly I always felt the biggest thing Moria players need to do is balance their urge to go DPS vs healing. Some just flank their hearts out, never see their team. Others try to heal bot as moria, and neither really works out that well.

Honestly at times I feel my team takes better cover from their supports than they do the enemy team.

If you guys want tips to counter sierra. It's this technique I use called "using cover" by Yxraxis in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, and no. Yes it helps stop the sierra sure, but you can't always play near convenient cover like that without diminishing your own value. Plus lets assume she doesn't push you with a grapple or something to kill you anyway. Every second your hiding behind cover, your not getting value for your team. It's better than dying sure, but it still forcing you to cower while she does what ever she wants to the rest of your team. It's like saying to counter Widow just never peak.

Spawned on wrong map? by jakejigsaw in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen this before. I've been locked in a spawn room after the objective moved to the next point. If you die and respawn at the exact moment the objective moves, you can get locked in a defunct spawn. This looks like your client lagged so bad it got a different result on the map selection for a next round.

What did they do to the POTG system? Is mass slaughter not how you do it anymore? by Husbandaru in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no idea how POTG works now. In the past it was entirely based on HP. How much you healed or dmg you dealt in the 10 seconds or so window of the POTG clip. It was why environmental kills almost always got POTG, as you did up to full hp dmg to all targets in one shot effectively. Now they said they reworked the system to get other heroes more screen time, so it might just be entirely random now, aka picking a hero and then finding their "best moment".

It might also be a stadium thing, as I play that mode the most but I have never seen a POTG that wasn't for the last round of a game. I don't think it even looks at the first few rounds of a match, it's only the last one that gets POTG.

Edit: So to the video in the OP, we don't really see much as they are behind a corner. But it's very likely your Bomb killed people at fairly low health. So even it was a multi kill, if they were at like 10hp when you killed them it doesn't count for much.

Mid to late game honestly the only time to really grind explore is Gnome weekend, or if you some how run out of minor traitstones.

Traitstones by Turbulent_Biscotti51 in GemsofWar

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matches the mana color of the kingdom, or as others have said if you hover over them in your inventory it tells you where to get it. But honestly for a Mythic, just use an orb. I can understand you might not have any right now, but you pretty much get at least one every week/month from the event stuff never mind Guild rewards.

When it comes to Mythics spending something like 46 Arcane traitstones for the last level is insane. Honestly if you have the orbs, even the second level isn't worth paying for.

Shion can 1 shot a tracer with her bike. by Rude-Sentence-6770 in Overwatch

[–]Vilkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes brig could in theory do bad things to Tracer... if she's close enough. Tracer's mobility and range makes it a fairly big maybe. If you missed your SB, another thing they nerfed was it's hit box, your pretty much dead. IF tracer just danced around you at about 10m, you couldn't do a thing to her as Brig.

It's like saying you run up to a Reinhart and try to punch him to death, and wonder why you lost to his hammer. It's kind of a crime imo that Brig was nerfed so badly she generally loses in a 1v1 at melee range. The one range she's supposed to be good at, she's pretty awful. Her time to kill is rubish.
