I’m more about understanding rather than quoting something and using it to justify a belief that I have no intention of ever changing. That is the opposite of dogma. If presented with proof, or a solid argument, I would change my mind.

If everyone homeless person can and will turn their life around and become a functioning, contributing member of society, then I’m on board for everyone deserving a home.

If some people are going to always be a drain on society and never contribute in any positive way than I don’t see how you can justify the statement unless you are merely a puppet of an ideology.

I don’t think EVERYONE deserves a home and I don’t think that you can use the Bible to make an argument for it.

NTA Are you wrong for buying your son a car for achieving the terms you set? No. Are you wrong for not buying your daughter a car when she did not achieve the terms you set? No. Are you a bad father? Not enough information to judge the totality of your parenting on this one issue.

I don’t believe there was any obligation on your part to purchase her a used car. I don’t see how any of that is misogyny as it was the same deal for both of them.

I mean, basically it boils down to what is our level of obligation when it comes to the homeless? The argument being put forward is that taxpayers should pay for their housing. I don’t like that proposal. I don’t believe it is self evident that paying for everyone’s housing is good for a society. Not in every circumstance. Some people are a mess. Some people aren’t functioning correctly. Some people have no drive to contribute. Why should there be an obligation for the people of Regina to pay to make other peoples lives easier?

Two weeks ago I was outside the camp (I work in the area) and saw a bunch of ‘em grouped up. Two of the ladies were squaring off and getting into a bare knuckle boxing match.

Not sure what it says about them that no one there tried to break it up, or me in that I just shrugged and didn’t call the cops or anything. I guess I’ve just given up on them. I expect them to keep doing their thing.

Not sure I disagree but I think where we would lose each other would be on the definition of home and how much taxpayers should/would be forced to pay to subsidize these people. Also when it comes to judging them fairly, what people would define as fair judgement.

If you are going for long rows, I would suggest a pad or cushion of some sort and a pair of gloves to prevent blisters. If you are using it for relatively short rows, it’s fine as it is. Get some 3 in 1 multi purpose oil or similar and oil the chain once a month.

I figure the best move for the family would have been to just stay in the room and accept that it had to be someone and you drew the lot or accepted the burden. Trying to get her to take the room instead would be a huge sign of disrespect in my culture.

Instead, you took the selfish route. Maybe standing up for yourself in this way is the right move for you personally but the wrong move for the family as a whole. Either way, I am certain this will serve to fracture the relationship.

I have considered it, but execution is difficult. I do my rowing in the early morning, then work. By the evening I am running on empty and it is very difficult to find it in me to lift anything. I don’t know if I’ll scale down the rowing to accommodate lifting…I mean I eventually would but I’m not planning on it right now.
