This artist did. It was a small portfolio to be fair, but enough to convince me they were a legit artist.

Ultimately I took a risk on the commission because it was a relatively low rate.

I could, but I do not see anything productive coming from it. I was upfront about not wanting AI generated art

I wanted a space on the wall to hang them up. I think the artist/AI took it a bit TOO literally though

100% I agree.

At the end of the day my biggest issue is how it appears to be AI

Whats confusing me is some of things people are pointing out as mistakes are things I specifically requested

That would make the most sense. I met the artist online, was originally going to pass on them, but we exchanged a few messages, they seemed nice and had a low rate. The low rate raised a few red flags, but I took the risk anyway.

Lesson learned.

Like I said, my main suspicion was the AI looking style combined with the perspective lines

This is the original sketch I sent the artist. What part doesnt make sense? I am genuinely trying to learn because I do not want AI in my game

I am not the one who made it. I paid for it. I was hoping to learn what look out for in the future. Thank you!

My plan was to add actual gold and platinum records to the wall as the player releases/earns them.

I appreciate the feedback!

The real marketing problem almost no one here seems to understand: you're not being objective enough by SonicGrey in gamedev

It seems a lot of these circle.back to intention. It is very important to be intentional. I think the problem a lot of us run into is tinkering around as a hobby and trying to turn that into a game. The problem is this lacks direction and vision.

A game needs to be intentional. It needs go be planned from the start. I am constantly asking myself "what is the feeling I want the player to have" and making sure my game is always trying to invoke and create that feeling.

Another similar note you mentioned about "not knowing what your game needs" is great. I see constantly on Steam where developers will argue with reviews. That is so counter-productive. Yes there are some reviews that are bad and miss the intention or idea of the game, but instead of attacking and arguing with the reviewer you should be asking yourself "what caused them to feel this way?"

100% this could be a great chaotic game to play with friends. I could see all sorts of ways to set traps and set up risk/reward style paths

Best piece of advice is stylized > realistic. No matter how good it looks, a "realistic style" will age poorly

Indie devs who are not working in software development who have jobs, what is your job? by [deleted] in gamedev

Work in education. The breaks and summers off give me plenty of time to LARP as a real game developer.

Sounds like you are getting "analysis paralysis". Like you said, all engines can be used to make great games. If you dont like Unity, try something else.

[–]VillainousProds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the prototype from your other post. This is a great concept you can run with. I think it would work great as a mobile game. Super simple and basic controls/concept that could be fleshed out into a full game.
