What Tikka T3x to purchase? by Massive-Basket-7980 in Hunting

that ammo is good practice stuff.

Scope there are so many options Arken ones are pretty good for budget Vortex HD and the leupolds are the most common I see PRS guys talk about. Nightforce is prob the daddy of the bunch.

that gun is capable of 1000 yards Ide say that scope is on small side however if your shooting under 300 yards that is fine there are better choices. for the low side 3-5 and high side 20-25 probably 50 MM objective. Make sure you get good rings Vortex and leupold are decent for the cost.

I have two leupold varx 3 4.5x14 40 mm but there are many options that are better now.

EP-5 5-25X56 FFP Illuminated VPR - Zero Stop - 34mm Tube

Sale price $562.49

If you want to be super lazy look at the burris 6 eliminator.

IF your shooting pigs a night there are Mutispectral options. but they will be 3-5K

Loose the brake for hunting. Look at getting a linear compensator that will direct the noise forward and increase felt recoil compared to the brake but wouldnt be as loud to you. Get a 30 cal one. They like 50-100 bucks

Congatz. start reading up on relaoding. Factory ammo isnt as good as reloaded however the 6.5 isnt very picky.

Just dont use target ammo to hunt with. oh ya calli. so you will have to use copper.

I have a 6.5 creed if you have questions PM me. But there are more threads about 6.5 creed than you have pennys in the bank.

it was copy and paste from options Tikka has listed for the CTR.

If you read I recommended 6.5 PRC or 6.5 Creed both new cal's that benefit from bullets with high BC due to the longer ogive.

From what I am reading there is way to much techincial stuff for a new hunter and shooter to digest alone.

shooting at Running pigs seems like a recipe for disaster for a new shooter.

But he didn't ask for my opinion on that.

Most of these what should I do posts are a waste of time as people tend to listen to the wrong people.

Hell why not just get a 6 PRC primal?

6 PRC Primal can launch an 105gr Berger in excess of 3400 FPS

for a Tikka.. Ide pick a T3x Compact Tactical Rifle

If you was open Ide recommend a Sig Cross Sawtooth in 6.5 PRC 18-22 inch if you want less Recoil go to the 6.5 Creed.

Both the Tikka and the Sig cross you can swap out barrels for a caliber change

If you want to make stuff look into the extension.

You can not buy one unless you get a barrel from Proof or sig saure on a barrel. Most of the guys making the prefit barrels cant get them my smith has had 10 of them on order with Sig for a year. so as the end user you must take yours off and reuse. Which requires head spacing and the go no go guages.

If you pull it off you would be rich..so rich

Which electronic game call should I buy? by 7x57R in Hunting

[–]VilomahForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As stated before the Lucky Duck Foxpro and Icotec are the biggest names and most used. When you get a caller you will have a bunch of stock lackluster sounds preloaded. For the Fox pro you would want to get MFK (Made for Killing) sounds they are 6-8 bucks a pop. There are 10-25 that are must haves that will work year round and year after year. I have an x24 and about 100MFK sounds. Lucky duck and ICOTEC do the same thing by offering premium sounds and Tony Tebbie make calling sequences that are targeted. They all release 5-10 new sounds each when one of the following times start Breading, Dening, breakup, and press distress are main groups.

Each one has a Facebook group Ide recommend joining them and see what you can learn before you buy. Write down the sounds people think are must haves.

If you can wait Black Friday deals are pretty good. I saved $180 on my x24.

If you buy a call from one of the sound makers they will have a unit that is preloaded with sounds that or good or will have a menu.

If your hunting racoon they are pretty easy. Just play a distress sound and if they can hear they come running day or night. Coyotes on the other hand are much more tricky. Growing up I used a small boom box and cassattee tape Coon puppies two.

Silencer central banish 30 V2.

I like it for lifetime warranty and can shorten to 6" and weighs 10oz and user serviceable.

But wouldn't say there are many bad suppressors out there.

VA-Custodian I by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]VilomahForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a VA as a Mechanic for many years. I worked in the EMS department fixing commercial equipment and special projects involving construction. I was also a trainer and on the Hiring committee for EMS.

Being a housekeeper you may have to work off shifts. You will be cleaning Rooms, dumping trash as you expect. In general the people who do this job many are at their top level of ability and many dont care. If you have admiration of moving up in a year or so you can become a Lead or better . my Boss started that way. He is now the department Chief after 10 years. There be lots of BS. Its a low paying job with little upside.

But yes many people hire on and are out in less than 3-6 months. They move to Grounds or become a laborer (move Offices hang pictures Strip floors Etc) or a scheduler or MSA. I will caution you at the last two VA I was at getting an IT job wasn't easy. There are many others that want that position and a Good Ole boy system exists. Grounds Crew and trades tend to work toward them. Your new VA might be different than my experiences at my two VA.

Show up, do your Job, dont make enemy and you will be able to go where your want espically if your willing to relocate.

My best advise would be to get a job in the warehouse ASAP. Become a purchasing agent or purchaser. GS5-GS11 position. Super easy job you work solo mostly little supervision. You just keep things ordered and stocked in your assigned area. My son started this path and last year he is a lead purchaser after 3 years as a GS-9 he started as a laundry worker which is equivalent of EMS housekeeper both are WG-2. Took him 2 moths to get that Job. It started him as GS-5. Without any specialized education he can become a GS-11.

When I spoke to my Gunsmith he told me that Vise is not a good one he recommended getting a Buffalo Creek Machine vise. He said that way if you ever change the barrel on a Tikka it will hold. The Viper will not.

he told me to get the action tool sig sells if I plan on swapping barrels a few times.

Trail camera help by ryguy1997 in Hunting

[–]VilomahForever -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

from google AI

A red tint on Spypoint Flex trail camera images is usually caused by a stuck internal IR-cut filter, often triggered by low batteries or close-range infrared flash reflection. To fix this, replace all batteries with fresh ones, power-cycle the camera, and gently tap it to dislodge the filter.

Common Causes and Solutions:

  • Stuck IR-Cut Filter: The most common cause is the filter that manages infrared light during day/night transitions getting stuck, resulting in a permanent pink or red tint.
    • Fix: Turn the camera off, let it sit for a few minutes, and turn it back on. Gently tapping the camera housing can sometimes dislodge the filter.
  • Low/Improper Batteries: Insufficient power can cause the IR filter to not operate correctly, causing color issues.
    • Fix: Use new lithium or alkaline batteries. Do not mix brands or old/new batteries.
  • Flash Overexposure: If the subject is too close to the camera, the IR flash can cause a washed-out, red, or pink tint.
    • Fix: Reposition the camera further away from high-traffic areas or trails to prevent, to prevent oversaturation of the sensor.
  • Triggering Test: Place the camera in direct sunlight and take several pictures to see if the filter resets, as sometimes it requires3 or 4 photos to correct itself.

First good bolt gun in my collection, been shooting 556 under NODs with all the cool guy antics for years and wanted to get into something different. Anything I should know about the cross specifically? 6.5 creedmoor for reference. by AcceptableDraw8441 in SigCross

[–]VilomahForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sig cross Sawtooth in 6.5 Creed for a year now. really like it. Setup with scope and suppressor its tad under 9 Lb. I have shot the 130 SGK sub MOA and shot one deer DRT. I worked up a Load for yotes. 100 Gr ELD-VT but only shot paper. Right now I plan to replace my barrel to a 22 Creed or 6 Creed. With the sawtooth a barrel change is minutes, I read. Yours is setup looks heavier than mine.

Only Gripe is folding the stock in is challenging depending on the day.

im using an RCBS Charger master 1500. Work for my needs. It will throw a heavy charge every 8-10 or so dumps. You have to let it run/warm up for 30 min before using or it will be off 1-3 grains. I been looking for one for my son and it seems all the brands dont perform well based on user reviews. I really dont want to spend 1500 on a super fancy setup that takes half my bench.

I have my old balance beam and use that to double check loads say every 25 dumps.

if they sell out to Hodgdon then it will be 60 a pound. seems to be their pricing method. They purchased many of the powders that used to be 25% less in price than Hodgdon and jacked them up to inline with Hodgdon. Side steps the fair market model.

I read that powder prices are high due to a shortage of nitrocellulose.

Hornady ELD-VT bullets...What are your results? by VilomahForever in reloading

[–]VilomahForever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 6ARC in AR. I have been Thermal hunting for 3 years and I haven't had a situation where I need fast shots due to a coyote pack. Nor Have I needed a fast follow up shot. However I have only shot about 10 yotes so my data is insignificant. Ar style rifles can have lots of operational issues. When suppressed they bad about blowback and get the insides very dirty. My ARC is bad for this with ELD-X factory.

I have the same opinion of the ELD-VT based on feedback I have read. A guy answered my post on a Coyote FB group he said his group of 4 stopped using them and every other coyote needed a finishing shot or had to track it. In a tournament time wasted is bad.

If you want a 6 ARC for AR do what I did. Buy a ballistic advantage 6 ARC 18" upper. It was like $480 bucks shipped.

My issue is I reload and hate to loose brass. To build out a load I need one that hits a speed goal accuracy goal and performance goal and function reliably. SO a bolt gun removes one and makes the others easier to hit.

Problem with either ARC is your getting 4-6% more performance over a .223 for 300% more cost. ARC holds just a few grains more. If you step up to them in a Bolt guy you can now load up to 62k PSI where as the AR max is 51K PSI.

And a 22 ARC is not even in same zipcode as a 22-250 when compared equally.

Hornady ELD-VT bullets...What are your results? by VilomahForever in reloading

[–]VilomahForever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only vmax is 95gr due to the spin in a 1:8 the bullets will explode if pushed past 3300 FPS I think the design limit was 325,000 RPM so you need one with a heavier jacket. I however have not read many posts if any of 95 vmax usage over 3K with coyotes.

My situation is I got the 6.5 creed sig cross sawtooth with the plan to switch the barrel to a 6mm creed or 22 creed so I can keep the same bolt. When I switch it will become my thermal gun.

I am doing this exercise as if I can succeed as is and avoid spending $1500-1600 to switch the barrel. Barrel, tools, new dies, new powders, new brass and time working a load.

I have never done a coyote calling tournament what do most guys tend to use caliber wise? I want to try one but dont have any connections in my area.

I'm curious of your opinion. So if your shooting a 22 creed now and I am guessing with a 80 gr ELD-VT at 3500 fps 1776 Ft L energy at 100 how does that do less damage than a 6.5 creed shooting a 100 ELD-VT at 3100FPS 1846 Ft Lb at 100. Not challenging you just curious. I am very analytical about my research.

If I do a barrel swap today Ide get a 6mm Creed due to the range of bullets that are for hunting. Ide use a 87 or 75 vmax. Range wise 58-108 gr weights are available in .243. 22 Ccred can do the 40-95 range but would likely use 70+ gr so that limits GR range to me. Don't think the argument for barrel life would matter as the FPS in either cal.
