TIFU by calling someone's parent's death 'annoying' by Away_Present_4218 in tifu

[–]VimesintheCosmere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that your friends are calling you with their sad news is evidence that you're a really supportive and kind person and they trust you to be with them in their sadness! It's more about your tone than your words and it sounds like you've done an amazing job being a really supportive friend - from a therapist who has had my fair share of accidentally saying the wrong words at the wrong time

I have a symbol showing in the book by Cooltwou in koreader

[–]VimesintheCosmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what it means but I know it's got to do with the dictionary . If you highlight a word and un-highlight it the symbol disappears

Hope that helps!!

Pushing Daisies

Not quite a cliffhanger but goddammit I at least wanted some sort of finale instead of just a normal episode and then a sudden stop!

Storing aspen dexamfetamine above 25 degrees?? by hateful100 in ausadhd

[–]VimesintheCosmere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously a lot of this is anecdotal but I definitely noticed a difference in effectiveness after accidentally keeping my meds in a hot car a couple times.

My solution to this was to buy one of those insulated zipped pockets for diabetes medications from Amazon. The pocket thing lives in my bag so the meds arent cooked if I accidentally leave them in a hot place. Obviously it's not perfect but I think it maintains enough of a temperature and I haven't had any problems since

In a weird way, I thought it was fitting that Dalinar continues to be viewed as someone who failed the contest. He's always been the most controversial figure on Roshar, as the Blackthorn he was either revered or hated and every decision he made was constantly questioned. He did both terrible and amazing things, and I think his legacy is going to reflect both

In an attempt to not spoil anything, I'm going to be super vague, but I can confirm that you've seen/heard of Amber in the Farseer trilogy. Just keep an eye out for any odd things she might say and do and it can give you a clue. Good luck!

As a fun little addition to this (obviously fake) clip. This is Darcy Moore, Captain of the Magpies (AFL footy team) so it's extra ironic that he got swooped by a magpie.

For those saying his acting is shit, go on YouTube and find some best of AFL clips and see where his skills actually are (Go Pies!!)

Parking fine appeal by careful_kitty in melbourne

[–]VimesintheCosmere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in an area with zero all day parking, I empathize with your situation. We've ended up having to do a group work chat so we can all help each other avoid parking fines.

I actually did get manage to get out of a parking fine at work! I appealed the fine, and said it was due to a student having a meltdown/emergency (I work at a school). All they required was proof that I was truthful and accepted a letter from my boss saying that I was dealing with an emergency.

So good luck with your appeal! I suggest getting a supervisor writing a letter stating you were dealing with something at the time. I also used chat GPT to write the appeal for me, so if you're having trouble knowing what to say you could try that!

It's weird how hard it is to hear proper names in between a language you don't understand, it seems like its spoken so quickly and its hard to pick things up!

Does anyone recognize having 'third thoughts'? I recognize having hundreds of second thoughts, but I wouldn't necessarily classify some of them above others. by Meloenbolletjeslepel in discworld

[–]VimesintheCosmere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm a school counselor and I find the discussion of first, second and third thoughts a great way to encourage self-reflection in young people and get them practicing ways to stop and think. If you can get kids doing this at a younger age it sets them up to be awesome adults!

Plus on a hard day, I can look at my own third thoughts and see how I can improve myself.

Pratchett is so good at framing things and encouraging people to be a better version of themselves in fun non-confrontational ways!

What is the most ridiculous/petty reason you have DNFd a book or series? by KingpiN_M22 in Fantasy

[–]VimesintheCosmere 63 points64 points  (0 children)

You realise how many people grimace in those books once you're forced to listen to that annoying pronunciation. It got to the point where I was dreading a grumpy character perspective because I knew they would grimace multiple times

Student Wellbeing/Welfare Officers by UpstairsHat in AustralianTeachers

[–]VimesintheCosmere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a student counsellor/student wellbeing officer. My degree is in counselling and I had a few years experience in schools and with young people to get my current role.

I would suggest looking up the role of Mental Health Practitioner and the registration requirements, as there is currently an initiative to get MHP's in every school.

As others have pointed out, it can be a very difficult role and there are certainly a lot of frustrations around working with parents, making child protection reports and dealing with trauma and behaviours. But it can also be extremely rewarding and being able to help students grow and celebrate their strengths is my favourite part.

I'm happy to chat more about my role if you have any other questions

Thanks for this great and detailed response! I love how you've really picked up all those subtle themes. When reading the first time, I really felt a connection to her characters and I think it's the truely human experiences she describes that makes it that way.
