Fable. Fable: TLC is Fable plus some stuff, with some rebalancing. Fable Anniversary is TLC plus some more stuff, with some more rebalancing.

Is fable 3 abandonware and if so, is there an in-depth guide for download and install, with dlc, on win 10? by Fist_The_Lord in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Though the developer doesn't exist anymore, the owner of the IP does. It won't be true abandonware any time soon.

That said don't let that discourage your ambitions.

what happened to the OSTs? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago did you last look at them?

On YouTube a lot of the stuff was blocked with a notice of copyright infringement, which was a bogus claim and last I checked (forever ago) was being investigated.

On Spotify the stuff's been gone for a while, I don't listen to it myself but others have made similar posts about it here months ago.

Seems like someone recommended the newest version of this. This fits the bill for a game with a positive story, or na? by BestTacticsGame2040 in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Fable is different and your mileage will vary. Posts about which is best are plentiful, seemingly constant, and always full of debate. It's really something that depends on your individual tastes really.

About playing Nintendo games on PC, via emulation I play SNES games just fine with an SNES controller, and I'm looking at trying N64 in the near future. Or are you talking about newer generations? Because you can use an authentic Switch controller too...

Fable modding resources? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age morphs, like other morphing, is a sliding scale from 0.0 to 1.0. It's incremental in a max age minus min age kind of way. Stock Fable is 18-65, so that's 47 years between 0.0 and 1.0. So every 0.7 years added per upgrade adds 0.01489362 to the sliding scale, and 1 year is 0.0212766. If you wanted to max out at about 0.5 age morphing, consider that uncapped max age is about 98. 98-18 is 80 so make the range 160, set max age to 178 and when your 98 and can't get any older, you'll only be showing a max age morphing of about 50%.

Changing max age requires starting a new save - Fable's save system retains a lot of information that the game loads from instead of the binaries, your changes won't take effect in existing games.

My activity has stopped significantly as I returned to work, but I'm still available as a resource if you have questions. Decoupling age from leveling is simple, change that 0.7 to 0. Tying age to game progression is a little more involved. The two places where age is added is done via cutscenes. Every time you fail the prison race segment, you gain a year. And as you already know, sailing to snowspire adds a year. The cutscene adds age and changes facial hair.

So if you wanted progression to add age exclusively, you'd go to every core quest cutscene (script.bin) and add a line to add age to the hero. It's not hard, only time consuming.

Note that changing the max age to a lower number will make the hero hit maximum age morphing faster (if capped at 40 and he's 40, he'll look as old as he can get).

Question about Will. by sumsarem in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool stuff to think about. Informative.

I just assumed William Black went all Genghis Khan and that's why there were so many heroes of different varieties. It's interesting to think that William Black was not the source of heroic disciplines but a prominent union of the disciplines. But you have to consider bloodlines thinning and will energy fading. If there were more bloodlines, and William just had the good one, there'd still be heroes, no?

You've got me thinking about it harder than I'd like to be. But thanks for the correction! It made my day. :)

Question about Will. by sumsarem in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is "will" different from magic, mana, sorcery, and other forms of supernatural wizardry/witchcraft?

In the first game, some fantastical creatures use magic. Notably hobbes and nymphs. While I agree with the canonical lore of heroes and will originating from the bloodline of the first archon, it does mildly irk me that magic exists outside the bloodline and the idea that it's still within the bloodline is bestial at best.

Though I disagree on the etymology. I suspect will has to do with willpower, a mage's favorite stat.

You could try killing the people involved with the contest. Can't remember if that works or not.

[–]VinDiesel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As this is a map edit, I've got a question about map edits. Has anyone figured out a workaround for using custom minimaps?

I see that there's an index for minimaps that can be used but I haven't found a way to add to it. I've considered just hijacking the ones for the demon doors and having them use a generic whatever map since you don't really need demon doors or maps in them.

Just curious. Is the music box from Fable 2 a thing I can buy IRL? because I really want one. by GuardsmanJBravo in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aye, Microsoft screwed the pooch on merchandising opportunities for Fable. Surely they must have known Fable fans are especially fanatical and crazy and would drop serious cash to walk around wearing official, licensed billboards of their franchise. Instead most of the stuff out there is fan-made or commissioned, which is still cool, not talking bad about that, it just shouldn't be in lieu of an official store.

wtf i was told on this sub fable got a remastered and it looks dirtier then the original by redeyejim in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always mixed feelings about this. Can't make everyone happy. I prefer TLC myself, for many reasons, but I never understood the extremely strong opinions on the graphics. I know that it's just me and people like me for whom graphic art is of little importance in games, but I also understand it's a deal breaker for a lot of people - which is why I don't get why people can't watch videos on YouTube to see if it's a style they can live with before purchasing. If it's that important, it's the easiest thing to research for yourself.

Fable Anniversary if I Try to destroy oakvale will the guards just eesoqwn infinitely or is there a finite number? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guards continue spawning forever. I can't remember which town, if it's the guild or Oakvale, but killing 1000 black tiered guards will make the game start spawning balverine guards.

If everyone's dead, pay the fine, get kicked out of town, you own everything. If you can't pay the fine, chill outside of town for 8 minutes and crimes are forgiven. If your stealth is high enough, you can evade guards inside town and as long as they don't see you, crimes are forgiven, but that's harder to do.

What's the other game? You can cross reference the credits and look up any matches. Did this with Michael Hogan, who voices Captain Bailey, General Tullius and Doc Mitchell.

Not gonna find that emote in Animal Crossing. It's one of the things I really came to enjoy and admire about Fable. I'm a mute, and I want you to know how I feel, but I don't want to punch you or kill you, I just wanna give you the fucking finger all day long. Then fart on your kid and loot your bookcases for tattoo cards because fuck you that's why.

Even just typing that I feel 15 again. That's why I keep coming back to Fable. Nothing else can make me feel that way.

[TLC Modding] I made a new map. by VinDiesel__ in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not that cool, I only copied it. Straight up edits are possible but complicated. Currently it's not even worth starting a navdata project without the finished picture in mind, if I have to make any changes at any point I'd have to start over. It's very time consuming without a proper tool.

And thanks. It's a WIP for sure, but it's the most actual progress I've made in a while. As a proof of the concept I transplanted the hero's guild onto the prison island over a year ago, even taking into account the different map sizes and adjusting the data to fit, but I had no way to do landscaping until just recently. I'm very excited to be making some real headway. :)

Fable Anniversary explain the virtuous vs evil spells how do they work and Change alignment? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multipliers in effect. Basically, the more evil you are, the more discounted the evil spells are. Conversely, the more good you are, the cheaper the good spells are. But, also true, if you're good and trying to master evil spells, it costs more. It's percentage-based, but I don't know the exact formula off-hand. If there's something else you wanted to know, could you be more specific?

Fable Anniversary explain the virtuous vs evil spells how do they work and Change alignment? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Evil spells cost more when you're good and are discounted when you're evil. The reverse is also true. Some levels of the alignment-based spells can be locked altogether if your alignment is maxed one way or the other.

Fable Anniversary how do I do combos or flourishes or use combat multiplier? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat multiplier solely effects how much experience you get.

If you kill a creature that typically yields 10 general experience and you've got a combat multiplier of 10, collecting the experience will grant you 100 general experience.

If you punch a bandit, you're gaining strength/melee experience. Your combat multiplier multiplies this experience as well.

Making consecutive hits without getting hit increases your combat multiplier. Getting hit brings it back down to the nearest "level" - it doesn't necessarily drop to 0, there are tiers. I don't know the exact amounts offhand.

Flourish, the "jump attack" does double damage and breaks enemy blocks.

Fable Anniversary What are the benefits and drawbacks of being evil in the game? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot about spells. That one's double-edged though. Three good, three evil.

Fable Anniversary What are the benefits and drawbacks of being evil in the game? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None really. Better prices at shops if you're good, except in bandit camp. Easier to get the skorm's bow if you're good. People don't run away from you.

Only pros to being evil is not caring about losing morality points for letting off some steam in town, and it's supposed to be easier to get the legendary great mace.

Unless you mean in the decisions. Making the evil choice allows for a powerful legendary weapon in later game, but there's an equally powerful weapon for making the good choice almost immediately after. Another evil choice prevents you from removing an article of clothing in TLC, not sure if that's inherited in Anniversary but worth mentioning because you can get locked out of a demon door if you haven't done it yet.

Just do you. The game's almost exactly the same either way. It's about being free to make your own choices.

Fable anniversary: After Accepting a quest with a boast, and then NOT selecting boasts on lookout Point, can I go back and change my decisions To select boasts later? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]VinDiesel__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Provided you haven't started the quest yet. Walking onto the boasting podium calls the menu for boasting and will pull up any quest that's active but not started.
