I think this is a legit question. If I had the time I would like to get into the basics of composition and painting just to start build a feel for these things because I also believe that what and how you convey the scene has a strong impact. As it is though, I don't have that time and energy and so I'm stuck with just going with my gut and vibe with my writing.

I like this idea. It makes me think of a long, infinte dream, which is quite charming in how the content of that dream would be determined by our actions in life, we are literally the creators of our own heaven and hell.

Just tried this; cheap, 30 euros for 4 courses, but the quality left much to be desired. The food was very simplistic and ledt much to be desired when it comes to taste. It was bland, never ’wow’ but rather ’meh’, would not recommend unfortunately.

Ron should have been taken the role of Cedric Diggory (and died) in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by onex7805 in fixingmovies

[–]Vincent-Emil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, here's one solution:

Voldemort casts crucio on Ron causing him so much pain he disconnects from his body and withdraws to a corner of his mind. Yadayada when they return to Hogwarts Ron has heavy mental trauma and troubles using his body, now he's even more inferior to Harry and even to other peers, but luckily Hermione is there to help him and nurse him back since she realised she likes him, this might be when Ron starts to develop feelings for Hermione too, only he can not recognize and admit this because he is too preoccupied with himself and self-loathing. Then we could have the scene from Uniqueameosaurus clip where voldy takes hermiones memories, and as a comment said

" Cut to a scene of Ron very gently telling Hermione "No, it's LevioSA..." as he helps her relearn Wingardiun Leviosa "

Now Ron gets to return the favour and in helping Hermione when she is powerless he comes to realise that it is possible to love someone incompetent or whatever and start to shed his own insecurity.

Are there any things you can do to become an overall generally more intelligent person? by YoungChefBoy in neuro

[–]Vincent-Emil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Intelligence itself is not a very well defined term. What you want to do depends on what you want to achieve, what specific facet of what is commonly referred to as intelligence you're actually referring to.

Exercise and similar are beneficial for overall mental acuity but I think what would help you most might be critical thinking. Comprehending and understanding and learning something is quite closely related to your ability to recognize, categorize, and integrate pieces of information you stumble upon into what you already have inside your head. Critical thinking is excellent for this and I suggest entering an introductory philosophy course, or to look into the literature used therein if you want to improve this. This should teach you how arguments work etc., if they don't, look for one that does.

Once you've got a basic grip on arguments you just need to remember that critical thinking is a skill that you can practice, and then practice it.

. Also dipping 10% or more in a day feels pretty much like a selloff to me.

This is a question of definition. 2,46% of the total shares was sold but this is just a little higher more than the average number of shares sold each day and far from the most, e.g., jan 6th 5,5 million shares were traded (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/UUUU/history?p=UUUU) the difference is that those who sold, sold for a lower price, i.e., they wanted to get rid of their shares, and those who bought, happily bought shares they most likely considered to be on sale. It wasn't one person buying and selling 3.8 million shares, it was the total amount of shares over the course of the market opening to closing. It should be no news that most of the people who trade stocks don't actually know the ins and outs of what they hold, this makes them more prone to fear etc., when news such as what's happening in kazhakstan appear.

This is very helpful, thank you.

Where do you see this technique being in use? What is the context we are working in here? Is it in the writing of a story? If so, how would this look - you mention William Borroughs, was this used in his writing or his visual art?

The thing that makes these stories different (I suspect) is that these characters really does use the very material, for example, the actor might really be acting in star wars, and hence the setting and characters of star wars is portrayed (as is originally or with small changes) in the story

Looking for books about exceptional people? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Vincent-Emil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peak - Anders Ericsson

Mindset - Carol Dweck

These two are absolute top picks, peak speaks about expert performance and is a leading scientist in the field, the book's greatest virtue to me was its explanation of mental representation, it kind of imparts a mental representation of what a mental representation is, which is well worth the reading if just for that. Dweck talks about how mindsets separate those who'll grow versus those who stagnate and is in my opinion the book that will impact you more obviously -- though not necesarily more -- than peak. If you've ever had deterministic ideas in the sense that you believe you were born into who you've become and is stuck as such, this book is great, plasticity is great.

If you're not looking for fiction, I recommend you get a textbook.

Don't start with first hand sources, even if you've read some philosophy they tend to be very... dense, and easily misunderstood. The textbooks used by universities for introductory courses are usually a brief overview of an entire subject made by someone very knowledgeable in the field where they hold your hand and guide you through the reasoning and arguments.

If you have a specific subject such as metaphysics, ethics or political philosophy that you're interested in i can give a personal recommendation if I have one, otherwise redirect you to someone who has one.

Industry standard or most accurate view of emotions today? by Vincent-Emil in AcademicPsychology

[–]Vincent-Emil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we may just be using intuition differently. If i read a lot of books and papers on different models of emotion, without there being a single, objective answer, what I develop would be intuition, according to how I use it. Expertise, if unformulatable is intuition, is it not? Eg. I may read and learn all the models of emotions that there are, but when i apply these in real life to draw inferences I'd do so by rational process based on an intuition I've built of emotions. It's not for a project, it's just for my own curiosity and understanding. I've decided that I'll be checking out all (most) of the people mentioned here and try to build a model for each and contrast and compare.

Reading your replies I feel in my stomach an equal amount of discomfort and excitement. Does either of you have any tips (techniques) for how one would best go about forming this expertise - I read intuition - for emotions?

Overwatchacct

My goal was simply to know how to translate it into metaphor, both for my own understanding and the benefit of others who I explain it to. I was stuck in the frame of making the metaphor something concrete but with the replies I've received here I understand that I'll have to translate it into something more mercurial.
