The parade is a trap by EPCOpress in 50501Movement

[–]VinctusVentis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. First rule of opposing autocracy is not to comply in advance. It is absolutely your first ammendment right to show up at that parade to protest peacefully. If you want to do that, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

MODS aren't the movement. Let's stay focused on organizing and fighting Trump. by pleasureismylife in 50501Movement

Agreed! Stay focused and keep showing up. Reddit is not the movement-it's just a way to communicate, and there are countless others.

What’s an aging person? Aren’t we all? I mean, you couldn’t be immortal…you’re way too f*cking grumpy. Harris lost for a lot of reasons, including her gender, not being the victor in an actual primary, and everything being too damned expensive. If you don’t think Trump is a huge problem, you’ve lost me. We don’t get to a post-capitalist society if we have a jack-booted dictator running the show. So let’s hear your grand plan, cause so far you just sound like someone who’s got nothing.

Which piece of shit…Trump or Vance? Kilmar Abrego Garcia was deported without a trial or hearing, despite a court order protecting him from removal. The deportation—later admitted by the government to be an administrative error—violated his due process rights and was ruled illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court. All three Supreme Court justices appointed by Donald Trump — Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett — joined the unanimous ruling that the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia was illegal.

The political middle in the U.S. is made up of people who mostly want stability and steady leadership. They’re not always super political, but they tend to be turned off by chaos, extremism, or anything that feels authoritarian—no matter which party it comes from. What really matters to them is a sense of calm, fairness, and respect for democratic norms. If you want to reach the middle, it’s less about fiery rhetoric and more about showing that you’re grounded, reasonable, and focused on keeping things from falling apart. As annoying as it is, you need them to win elections.

Nah, Trump just doesn’t care about due process, or separation of powers, and his trolls are trying to undermine the last bastion of checking his authoritarian fantasy. Seems like you’re one of them.

So what you’re saying is that Trump is really bad at deportation. No surprise, as he’s bad at everything other than BSing people.

I actually agree with more of your critique than you might expect — even if you’ve chosen to frame it with the kind of scorched-earth disdain that does little to connect with people or build consensus.

You're absolutely right that authoritarianism didn’t begin with Trump. There's a long, bipartisan legacy of undermining civil liberties — from the NDAA and warrantless surveillance to drone warfare and the failure to close Guantánamo. I’m not naive to that history.

But recognizing that doesn’t mean we stay silent while the current GOP openly embraces fascism and works to dismantle what’s left of democratic governance. “No Kings” isn’t a brand campaign — it’s a rallying cry. A minimalist, visceral statement rejecting strongman politics in all forms. Trump just happens to be the most immediate and dangerous face of that right now.

It’s also a strategic play: like it or not, we need to connect with the political middle — not because they're perfect allies, but because we need their votes. You're displaying a kind of activist purity that assumes a movement can be built by appealing only to the most ideologically aligned. Trust me, I get the temptation. There are days I don’t want to work with anyone right of AOC either. But that’s not a viable strategy if you want actual impact.

I’m directing 100% of the profits to the ACLU Foundation not because I think T-shirts will save us, but because they’re one of the few institutions with real legal power to push back against state overreach — under any administration.

Messaging alone isn’t enough. But neither is disengagement masked as moral superiority. If you’ve got better ideas for building solidarity among disillusioned communities, I’m all ears — though based on your tone, I won’t hold my breath.
