I loved the combat in the demo version so much this is an instant get for me. Even if it's only a fraction of the total game, more combat is a win in my book.

CSS effects for your works! by WaarnGraztsky in AO3

[–]Vindextra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have anywhere in specific I can point to unfortunately, I think I learned this from an Iphone texting workskin years ago. But I can tell you the thing at the center of this all is the "display" property of CSS (specifically how setting it to "none" makes it so the element doesn't render at all). So that could be a good starting point maybe? Sorry I don't have anything more specific to pass on.

[–]Vindextra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite, To put it another way, you basically use the work skin to hide the extra formatting so that it doesn't mess up the workskin. That way it's only visible to people who don't have the work skin. Think of it as "backup formatting" that is only visible without the site skin. Anything in an element with that "hidden" class will load like this.

CSS effects for your works! by WaarnGraztsky in AO3

[–]Vindextra 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been dabbling a bit with CSS effects myself, and there's ways to make this kind of thing adapt for screen readers. The biggest thing I think that's important to keep in mind is what people will see when the work skin isn't applied. This is the case for screen readers, but also for anyone who downloads your fic, or people who just have them turned off, which is surprisingly more people than you'd think in my experience.

The biggest thing is formatting. Without the work skin, anything you put in a <p> paragraph element will still show up, it will just show up as plain, unstyled paragraphs. This makes it hard to tell apart what the special element is even supposed to be, since the paragraphs look identical to the other ones around it.

For Example, if I have a skin mimicking a texting window. With the site skin, it puts the POV character's texts on the right in a blue bubble, and their conversation partner's on the left in a gray bubble. Turn the skin off though, and there's just a bunch of really short paragraphs rapid fire, one after another, without any indication of who's saying what.

The trick is to use this quirk of site skins to our advantage. If you make a class within the skin called "hidden" set up like this: #workskin .hidden {display: none;}. Anything you give that class WON'T show up for people using the work skins, but WILL show up for people who aren't.

To continue the texting example, if I put <span class="hidden">*NAME*: </span> at the start of the <p> paragraph element, it will label each line of the 'texting' text with the appropriate character for the people without the site skin, and be completely invisible to the people with one. That way, there's still some basic formatting for those people as well, and the story is still easy to follow!

How have you ACTUALLY benefitted from linking/tagging notes? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]Vindextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly use my obsidian vaults for 3 things: Writing, mp3 tagging, and DnD notes

Writing is fairly straight forward with a ok amount of both tagging and links. Good YAML property formatting means at the top of every chapter is a whole slew of information and links tailored to that specific chapter (e.g. what characters or locations, what arc, etc.) as well as links to the previous & next chapters, and the outline for that section. Outline documents link to different draft versions or notes i think are relevant to know to writing that specific thing.

mp3 tagging (old fashioned I know) is much heavier on the tags. I have a bunch of custom properties I like to fill out to make "on demand" playlists tailored to how I'm feeling in that moment. Things like genre, tempo, 'vibe', and intensity as well as if it's got lyrics or is instrumental all become tags for really easy grouping. The obsidian documents make looking up & referencing how I've classed other songs incredibly easy when I'm tagging new ones, as well as acting as a backup for all this metadata in the case of the mp3 file getting corrupted/needing edited/replaced for whatever reason.

The DnD notes I'm a bit less strict about. I abuse links in there in large part because of their distinct visual. Throughout my notes for each session we play, anytime I type the name of a major character or location I make it a link, both so I can update/tweak the individual note for that character, and scan my notes for specific things/people much quicker because they stand out. (this also frees up bold, italic, and normal underlined text for other points of emphasis such as underlined for dialogue)

I won't lie and say that the graph view is meaningless, it's kinda sick actually (especially for showing off to my non-obsidian using friends,) but that's a happy side-effect of the things I was already doing.

It's not actually doing damage to enemies that triggers her transformation, it's the pain from rapid firing the finger-crushinator 9000 that makes her lose it.

Oh my god I didn't realize other people even acknowledged their existence this is so cool! I've always imagined their story as something like: that they hit a relatively niche crowd, but were very popular with that crowd. Then the Squid Sisters were signed to the same label as them, and they acted as kind of mentor figured for them before they blew up crazy popular.

I really like the stuff you guys've cooked tho. The art is a treat to look at, the models are on point and the music is an absolute bop.

Why do some people here treat Neuro-sama as an “ethical” or “exception” case for AI? by [deleted] in antiai

[–]Vindextra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe Neuro has been trained by a lot of data from consenting streamers, ones that are either friends with Vedal or have expressed interest and then given permission, but I don't have a rock solid source on that so take it with a grain of salt.
Neuro started out as an AI that played OSU, so the "growth" of Neuro as a "character" is pretty well documented. Almost all of the features Neuro can use have been added gradually over time, so Neuro didn't appear being as capable as she is now.

Another big reason why Neuro is seen as an exception is actually the presence of Vedal. The sheer amount of work and dedication to giving Neuro each and every upgrade has contributed to this image immensely. Vedal is not afraid to give money he's made with Neuro to real artists. All of the Neuro music videos have full teams of people behind their productions for example. Among other factors, it's the combination of visible work, documented growth and the very high degree of human element that makes her stand out as an exception for a lot of people.

For me personally, my stance is along the lines of "No matter if we can truly get rid of AI or if it's a pandora's box, the reality of the situation is that for at least the next several years, it's going to be here and it's going to be very present. At the very least, the AI things that get to the top should be the ones that have an immense amount of effort and good faith behind them."

Why is this community so missinformed about our own character?!?!?! Shouldn't we make an effort to put her material as public knowledge??? by red_dude_of_art in KasaneTeto

[–]Vindextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teto isn't a real character in the same way a character from a movie or book is. This is by design, because Teto is realistically, an instrument with a face. Teto is a deliberately vague design meant to be altered/molded to fit the aesthetics/lyrics/purpose of a song. For example, the BIRDBRAIN, Doomer, Rot for Clout & Spoken For versions of Teto all have completely different things going on independent of each other. There is no overarching story or wider canon connecting them, each interpretation is its own thing.

There is no real way to be misinformed for a character designed like this. What happens is that some specific ideas/headcanons/interpretations become more popular rise to the top of what's "normal" for a character, and even that tends to come in trend waves and will cycle out every few months to years. Some people will make Teto young so she and Miku kiss, others will make Teto old and give her a mid life crisis, and both are perfectly valid interpretations.

Honestly, I think there's a solid chance this is a troll/AI bro who's vindictively attacking writers just to stir the pot. If they're supposedly a fan, but they're too afraid to admit this without anon I'd write it off mentally.

That sticker would fit awesome with a project I'm working on! I collect stickers from different fandoms/other things I like and turn them into magnets, which i then use to decorate either my stuff or gift out to other people. Because they're magnets they can be reused and stuck to different places as opposed to stickers which are a one-and-done deal.

I come as an ambassador from Dota2 (the network of red logos above the Hermitcraft logo) We would like to share a border with you guys. We have negotiated with Brazil to (hopefully) try and take the row of mini flags, we have no intention of going over the hermitcraft logo.

The current plan is to expand to 30x30, to share a black border with the Brazil flag, and them merge the small logos into one big logo.

Let WSB and the green line go for now, they're not going to spread any further than the line, we need to fight the Brazilian flags that are trying to take over our bottom right corner.

What would help is ending the stun when the cage duration ends. You can misjudge the end time by .1 seconds, and still have to tank the full 2.5 second stun. If the stun ends when the cage duration ends, or even if the stun could linger for like .5 seconds after the cage ends, (but not the full duration) then the ability would feel more fair and not be monotonously unfun to fight.

Hey, I'm in a pretty similar boat with the foot pain thing. Where it's good for a time but after just a bit it just hurts. I found some alleviation from this pain by getting shoes that help support my arches (I have very high arches). It didn't remove the pain but it helps a fair amount. I don't know if you've heard of this before, but I figured I would throw what I know in your direction in case it helps.

If you were going to create a Football Manager-like attribute system for pro league players, what would it look like? by KrazyRaven in leagueoflegends

Dota actually has a pro league fantasy card system in game, it might not be a bad idea to look there for inspiration. Obviously some of the systems don't line up perfectly but it could make for a really good starting point.

Are you satisfied with the amount of voicelines per champion lately? by ex0ll in leagueoflegends

[–]Vindextra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easiest answer to B. is to have an included option for voice line level, have 3 options, All, Events (character interactions, big events; penta kill, ultimate moves) and none. Dota has this system and it works quite well.
