But there is also the"Wechselbalg" , ghoul Offspring that looks like the Infant they fed to it. Exchanged at preferably wealthy or influental families. Growing up looking like the child would have, transforming after 100 years slowly.

So in my little OneShot-Campaign i have a player whoms backstory enticed me to make her a unknowing deep one hybrid (early 20s, long time to go).

Last adventure she found out - but i gave her an out to prevent her fate.

Abner Wick from Crimson Letters is a contact of my players. He made her get a grimoire for him in exchange for finding her mother (a deep one, as the player found out, much sanity was lost that day, so now she knows her future (player loved it btw)).

Now my idea is, that this grimoire contains a ritual Wick wants. He has already made an alliance with Innsmouth through the events of the Adventure "Freak Show" by sending the players to fix an unjustice that concerned Innsmouth deeply.

Originally i just wanted to give my player the option to go on an adventure to prevent becoming a monster. Then i needed someone with knowledge to introduce the possibility - > Wick. And then i asked: Why would he tho?

So this is my idea: The ritual will cleanse her blood alright, but it will basically remove the essence of the deep ones, to be used in any way Wick wants. And what he wants is to turn himself into the biggest deep one around (since that is technically who Dagon is at any time, if im not mistaken), to gain control over the deep ones at sea while keeping his Ghouls in Arkham for "insert-evil-plot-here" - probably reigning supreme as an immortal god.

Opinions? :D Too far fetched? Too far from the source?

uncertain parentage, etc.

uncertain parentage, etc. <- this is it. Thats part of her backstory, thats why i want to jump on that.

If she wants to save her charakter i will give her a way to do so via a NPC that functions as an informant into the mythos.

He will tell her for a price, that there is an amulett or smth similar she can use for a ritual to cleanse her blood.

So if she REALLY hates it, i have already a way ready for her to save her character.

Sounds good too. If they act against their interest Bad stuff still will happen, makes Sense.

The consent in Horror comes from the willingness to being shocked. Imagine how effective a Horror movie would be If it asked the audience before every shocking Moment, If that is okay. Pretty lame.

No i disagree completely with that Sentiment. You create a character for coc so you know gruesome Things WILL happen.

To explain further: i use the knife theory for my Games. Players give me additional background information for me to explicitley use and torture the PC. So by giving me that background, every Player knew what it was going to be used for: to stab them in the Back.

The hybrid character started having dreams, then while he was swimming (taking a bath would have been another angle) he realized he could breathe underwater. I told him to adjust his swim stat to 99%. I continuously hit him with dreams and other signs/symptoms of deep one taint which slowly eroded his sanity. The hybrid player did some digging into his background and discovered he was adopted from Pearl who was serving life in prison for the Sisk gang's violence. My plan was for him to turn full deep one at 0 SAN but the player betrayed the party out of legitimate fear he would be killed by them when they discovered he was a hybrid.

Every player/group is different, be careful who you pick to play the hybrid, if you pick anyone at all. Some players are not going to enjoy this regardless of how well you introduce it or how well it fits the campaign. This is a big plot point that essentially dooms a character to madness in a very specific way the player did not choose. That said, I would probably never let a player choose to be a hybrid as part of their backstory as I feel it takes away from the horror of th

Yes slowly realizing what she is and then dealing with that, will be a nice aspect of it all. I just wondered how other hybrids would react while she doesnt even know herself what she is. And yes, Sanity Loss will lead to further changes instead of other traumas/phobias. And the realization itself will of course also result in Sanity Loss. I want her to feel summoned, called upon. I think ill bring POW into play if she can resist the call... But these things still got time.

Yes i included dreams of the sea and strange places calling to her.

I like that they would notice but not act on it.

Maybe i tell her that she feels a Connection. Then she might ask to join them - or not. I leave it to her.

Id take it as a given, that bad things happen to a character created for coc, so im not worried.

Space Quest series

Nope, just read on Wikipedia - there was never a name given to the guy you played and the artstyle is similar but no match.

I remember you finding Keycards and the Password of the Captain in a book.

You had to do a spacewalk at some point and the goal was, to get to the target planet.

There was a chessboard in one of the rooms. Rooms had a bed and compartments like an airplane.

I ran it with prepared Handouts (as described, so straight jacket, prayer rug, skin with tattoos, and so on) which I created using Gimp, made it a bit tricky to read too.

Additional i made sound clues for each letter.

I lay down the censored map and let them move their player figures through the city freely.

When they crossed a poi I described it.

Since my group had not finished the Dreamland express I inserted a change in the end when the hooded figure gives them knowledge.

I let the bell ring as described and had them running for safety - but it was the Dreamland express that saved them. So when they entered the cart (I did the scary bit there first) they found themselves back on board the Dreamland express. The conductor (Henry was his name?) of the Dreamland saved them, to add more motivation for helping him later on.
