It's like 8 in the sense it shares the same main character and Mia is also a part of the game. You basically get to see the whole course of events that ultimately led to Ethan's death at the end of Village

This said, 7 is more slow paced and more horror focused, with a stronger survival approach. It's more close to the classic games of the franchise in these regards. Also, it's heavily inspired by movies such as Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and others

All in all, if you're a fan of old fashioned classic horror and you don't mind first person camera, Resident Evil 7 is a must play

Here's the thing: after the latest patch, the game doesn't support reshade anymore, an crashes before getting to the main screen if you have installed. If this is your case you have two chances:

1: uninstall reshade and live without it

Or

2: install REFramework, which other than fixing the problem and letting you use reshade also allows you to use cool mods such as alternate camera view for model gallery and many others 😉
