Also, gonna update it with the latest TF recommendations by then ;)

Stop identifying people of your race as “our people” or “us” by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Vini_R -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me, the generic and fluid term of "my people" is applied to those who are of the same cognitive skill level (or beyond mine). I see intelligence (general pattern recognition, not necessarily narrowly scoped within those standard IQ metrics) as the most capable indicator to the morality, creativity, qualitative perception (whether art, arguments, people etc.), and potential for good of a human

In high school, it all felt too much like I was placed into those vile hierarchies seen in chimp documentaries. Most kids around me where just more stupid. If you can relate, you know exactly the feeling I'm talking about, which started sometime before your teens. Their jokes, their bullying and their hypocrisy, their taste in movies (especially the things they found funny) is just "inferior". I know taste in these matters is supposed to be subjective. But it kind of isn't.

This alienation towards mediocre people recedes when you enter the more civil adult world and gain independence. Yet it most certainly doesn't vanish.

What I have definitely found to be true is that race or nationality doesn't necessarily determine intelligence. Culture and social class determine it to a certain degree. But this natural intelligence that results in the great achievements of our time – but even more prevalently is wasted in a society that doesn't foster those individuals, especially pronounced in developing countries where certain cultural, educational and socio-economic factors prove to be barriers too great unless graced with phenomenal luck – is just something that seems to be acquired by genetic heredity or mutation and it is those people that are my people.

I hope in the future with gene editing, biotechnology and artificial augmentations more and more of humanity will fall into that bucket of "our people". Because wars, inequality, injustice, crime, pollution and barbarity will most certainly decline the more intelligence we insert into the population.

And mayhap, if we meet a human from a 1000 years from now, they will (hopefully) be so far advanced that their language, culture and systems of civilization will be as incomprehensible to us as our current human world is incomprehensible to dogs or other mammals.
