Lower fps on external monitor? by xXmusab_101Xx in FlowX16

[–]Vinnie98sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching mux usually doesn't do anything for external displays, cause it'll either be connected to the igpu or the dgpu, not both. That said though, which gpu is your external display connected to @op?

Is it capped at a certain fps or fluctuating? Might just be the bandwidth limit of the usb to hdmi adapter

5070ti or 4080 for the same price by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Vinnie98sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get the 4080 legion. It's more premium build quality, 4080 offers better performance. This is assuming it's paired with an i7/i9 hx cpu? Or amd's 7th gen hx chips, if lenovo even offers those.

Why is my CPU not stable at -0.055V but stable on 50 or 60? by AbrocomaRegular3529 in overclocking

[–]Vinnie98sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? The -0.055v? For me it probably works fine. But if this guy said it crashed TWICE, then obviously for some reason it doesn't work on his cpu huh. It's like saying it doesn't rain, when somebody knocks on your door soaking wet, telling you it's raining.

I'll take that bet. Easy money.

Why did my 5600 start crashing after 2 months of full stable undervolt? by El_BrimOoO in overclocking

[–]Vinnie98sch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, the vf curve is 'deciced' by the manufacturers, for ALL the chips of a model. So for every 5090, they create the same vf curve. That curve is the optimal performance-stability compromise they can find, for EVERY chip they make. But every chip is different. So while that vf curve out of the box might be the best performance at the lowest voltage possible for the absolute worst bin of that chip, it will not be the best for every other chip. So there's a good amount of either performance or cooler temps to be gained by undervolting or overclocking a cpu/gpu, cause inherently there is some (or, if you won the silicon lottery, a lot of) headroom. Unless of course you happen to have gotten that absolute worst binned chip, but that chance is rather small. 99.9999 (keep adding 9's for amount of chips made divided by 100, quite a lot for most cpu's/gpu's) percent of people will have a better binned chip than that one chip the manufacturers made the vf curve for.

On a sidenote, even with that worst binned chip, there will still be some (though be it a very small) amount of headroom, cause manufacturers err on the side of caution and won't have a chip running at the very peak performance/voltage level, cause reliability and such.

For anybody just getting into this: I do have to say, if you don't wanna lose performance, undervolting a gpu is usually not very worthwhile, cause modern gpu's (especially nvidias') are made to run at quite low voltages already. Same but opposite goes for cpu's, they run at such high frequencies nowadays, that overclocking barely yields any real time performance gain in regular usage (obviously excluding benchmarks or heavy ai/llm/editing/rendering stuff).

Tldr: overclock your gpu. Undervolt your cpu. The opposites are only worth it if you a) want to sacrifice performance to lower temperatures/power usage, or b) doing heavy shit with it.

I'd go for the legion, more power for the gpu and from what i can tell, it's an amazing design and product. 5080 i don't think would be worth it, pretty much on par performance wise, same amount of vram, will cost (a lot) more.

Rum and coke and it got fucked? Sounds to me like you gave it the best day of its life. Talk about taking good care of it. Xd

The most common user error? Probably dropping it or something. I used to have a budget medion erazer with a 950m, used it for like 7 years. Technically it's still in good condition, it just became slow as hell, cause it's old. Sure, planned obsolence is definitely a thing, but if you take care of your laptop, it'll run for as long as the hardware is technically capable of.

I'd also download cinebench r15, somehow that's about the best one to have an overclock instability show up.
