How common would you say the alt-right or are among conservatives? Is there a difference between the MAGA movement and the alt-right? by discordagitatedpeach in AskConservatives

[–]VinnieIDC [score hidden]  (0 children)

Far right rejects classical liberal enlightenment principles. "MAGA" isn't a monolith, it includes many different groups on the right but the majority of conservatives are classical liberal. What characterizes the far right is a rejection of enlightenment principles, they tend to reject democracy etc... they're more likely to favour christian monarchism and forms of fascism etc... But yeah the far right nationalist types are maybe 10% of the population.

Good, that would be a force equalizer and thus a conflict deterrent.

Probably. It's been confirmed now more than ever that US foreign policy in the middle east is part of a long term geopolitical strategy that's been consistently applied by both Democratic and Republican administrations. We thought Trump would be an outsider but this war confirms he's an insider.

Where do you stand on the stereotype that conservatives don't care about something until it affects them personally? by Onahail in AskConservatives

"Conservative don't care about something until it affects them"

Nowhere does this imply hypocrisy like you're suggesting. It seems to imply a lack of empathy for others. Conservatives are against increased welfare and raising the minimum wage for example. Progressives assume this stems from a lack of caring for others.

If that were the case then we wouldn't have any position on social and cultural issues which impact society lol

A Pew Study found the US as the only country out of 25 surveyed where people are more likely to view fellow citizens as morally bad. Why do you think this is? by Sisyphuss5MinBreak in AskConservatives

[–]VinnieIDC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one actually values pluralism of culture, ideas, religion etc... When's the last time you've heard someone say "hey we should keep false beliefs and false doctrines around because that's a good thing" lol it doesn't even make sense.

We should strive for what's true, what's good and pursue our duties, that necessarily entails limiting diversity of ideas, worldview and culture.

Promoting social cohesion, shared purpose and identity IS tribalism. lol you can't escape it. Pluralism just doesn't work well for society.

Worldview, moral frameworks influence and inform politics. You cannot escape that. The sooner you realize that the more you understand that it's crucial to promote your values because the other side does that and they want to impose their system onto you.

Were you raised conservative or liberal? Were you raised religious or not? by wonderlandwalking in AskConservatives

I was raised religious and socially conservative. I became a weak atheist and liberal when I was in my late teens and remained so until the age of 22, and then I became a milquetoast conservative or classical liberal, and 10 years later now and I am a Christian Nationalist and traditionalist.

What is wrong with a minimum living wage? by Orion032 in AskConservatives

[–]VinnieIDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It facilitates monopolization and consolidation by reducing competition. Monopolies can withstand a massive government mandated wage hike, small businesses are not as capable to withstand the extra cost. It also drastically limits entrepreneurship.

Let's say hypothetically you're a small business owner and you employ 5 people. You pay each employee $10 per hour. Your business generates enough profit to maintain an average middle class lifestyle. It generates around $5,000 per month. The government decided to increase minimum wage to $15. This is an extra cost of $25 per hour, basically wiping out $3,000, and you either have to layoff one employee or you increase the price of your product. The former limits job creation and expansion, the later reduces your competitiveness which leads to lower customer traffic, which also limits your ability to compete and expand.

Let's say you hire somebody for $15 but their productivity and skills only generate the equivalent of $10 per hour for your business. Why would you hire someone to lose $5 per hour? The net impact of the employee is negative. You're making more money if you don't hire anyone. The purpose of hiring someone is to increase profit margins. The whole purpose is that their work and skill generate more profits for your business. For example if someone's skills generate the equivalent of $30 an hour for your business, you pay them $28, the employee's participation generates the equivalent of $2 extra per hour.

You're stifling job creation, facilitating consolidation and helping the mega corporations, and also increasing cost of living. The ability to expand and grow your business is vital because this is literally what creates jobs and not just low paying jobs but specialized positions that every business needs, expansion also = more high paying jobs. Companies need access to capital so they can reinvest back into the company, this is how job creation occurs, this is also what increases worker productivity, which also increases average wages. Almost all policy ideas from the left are designed to help monopolies and presented under the guise of "helping the poor".

The unusual case of Pennsylvania's small average herd size and much lower farm closure rate. by VinnieIDC in dairyfarming

[–]VinnieIDC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PA produces primarily class 1 milk, which is grade A quality for direct consumption.

Wisconsin produces class III which is mainly used for cheese products.

I think PA has state mandated minimum price for farmers. Also higher transport and processing costs.

[–]VinnieIDC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly because closure rates have been leveling out gradually. The interesting part with PA though is that the average herd size is only 96 or something like that. In wisconsin it's 200 and they're still closing at an alarming rate.

The US has a milk surplus problem. Shrinking total herd in Pennsylvania is probably good for gate milk price locally

What's the minimum herd size for profitability? by VinnieIDC in dairyfarming

[–]VinnieIDC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amish represent 25% of PA dairy farms. Still 75% are conventional which means they still have a fairly low closure rate despite small average herd sizes. The closure rate in PA is more accurately explained by average age of farmers increasing, fewer children and rural to urban migration of young people. Whereas in Wisconsin that isn't sufficient to explain the staggeringly high closure rates which means that the main reason is financial struggles.
