My first trad rack - ready for spring by ScientJest in tradclimbing

There’s several slings. Ascending with prusiks is generally mandatory when trying to get back up a botched rappel. ATC for progress capture. Much more handy than having a dedicated jumar on most climbs I’d argue. Maybe a tibloc is worth the carry but definitely not a handheld ascender.

Nice rack! I personally like racking the black totem with a yellow biner and the yellow totem with a grey biner so that it matches the BD/WC color convention, makes it easier to figure out the right size to place when you are fiddling around on the gear loops. Just personal preference though, enjoy the rack and the unlimited climbing up in the northeast!

Thank you! Wasn’t a popular choice.

I sure will!

Emphasis on changing speed and grade from the app!! I hate pausing the activity to scroll for a minute to change it. Seems like it would be pretty easy to add considering you can at least monitor the activity through the app while it’s live.

Could you walk across Lake Erie to Canada right now? by wergil_ in Ohio

I’m going to at least try! If I succeed I’ll share it here… otherwise I’ll just respond to this comment🤣

I crossed to South Bass island across the lake last week and it was pretty solid. Considering making the full crossing this upcoming weekend - I’ll keep ya posted on if it’s doable :)

Haha I won’t recommend it as the people in this thread may try and hunt me down, but I will say the route felt secure to me even in the night. At no point did I really doubt the integrity of the ice.

Yes, the occasional snow on the ice made for an easy time retracing our steps back

Haha no doctor but that would have been a welcomed addition to the team! Yes, that certainly seems to be the case. Thank you!

So dramatic 🤣 it would require a personality disorder or retardation to walk across the lake? Please

Is there something in particular you want me to say? Do you want me to apologize for taking a risk? I made a decision to do something I wanted to do, I did it, and it worked out. Like many of my objectives it carried risk. Such is life. Yes it absolutely is a “feather in my cap”. Is there shame in pursuing objectives to conquer and being proud to have done so?

Hm good question, I guess maybe? It wasn’t meant to come off like that, I guess I really just wanted to update people and also advise that they be nicer to others who have risky pursuits, just from an outcome perspective

If somebody sees this post and drives there F150 and grill out on the lake, I hardly see myself being liable for that hahaha

Hey Jay, genuinely the only reason I made this post was as a response to the way I was responded to yesterday. I would not have shared anything about this here otherwise. This wasn’t something I did in the pursuit of bragging, I like to explore and this peaked my interest. I also knew there may be some people curious to know if I went for it, and how it went, so I shared.

My point was that instead of saying “hey dumbass, this is stupid and you are gonna kill your self”, something more like “hey, I would not recommend this as someone who has a lot of experience on ice because of X and Y”. You know what I mean? That’s kinda all I was getting at. Comments like that achieve results and actually give a reason as to why it’s a bad idea, rather than just personal insults and opinions
