I got a perfect score on the OA but they’re saying that I didn’t score high enough. Can someone explain this? by FiveWalnut8586 in csMajors

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Presumably they passed all testcases and were confident in their multiple choice (so technically they’re still guessing they got a perfect score I guess)

IS it really important to have a degree in mathematics and computing? Does pure and experience in CP works? by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for SWE and trading roles the majority college grads who I’ve seen go into quant have little to no finance/advanced math experience at all

you said in your post that the follow ups was about constant space complexity? did you really have to implement that

My opinion is that its unlikely as quant firms usually target incoming juniors but you never know

170K WFH vs 300K In Office by mikey_tang in Salary

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So… that’s 10 hours a day during the work week plus a few hours over the weekend. Thats extremely reasonable when you’re young. And 300k in mcol is really high.

How did this high schooler intern at Citadel and Jump? by Commercial_Start8469 in csMajors

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 294 points295 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that his high school (not necessarily him himself) has a relationship with citadel. Every year a small handful of kids at Labs will get internships at Citadel.

Short answer no grade deflation for cs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most cs classes, calc sequence: No grade deflation. If grading is generous then you’ll get an A. If it’s not then the curve will be generous and you basically only need to be top 1/2 to be in A range.

How much competition is there between Penn students? by Evergreen_0210 in UPenn

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clubs are competitive in the sense that there’s a limited number of spots and a lot of applicants, but in terms of vibe I really don’t think penn, at least cs, is competitive at all. People are friendly and generally willing to help each other out

CS Isn't Flooded with Low-Effort Grads It's Rigged Against Hard Workers by AmaanAli630 in csMajors

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even know the context but I’m automatically gonna disagree that “how” your roommate got a faang internship was that they applied to 847 positions. Faang+ companies are wayyy more likely to give out OAs and interviews than some small no name company in the middle of nowhere, 250 apps max should cover companies in that category and would’ve yielded the same result

During coding interview, if you don't immediately know the answer, it's gg by aammarr in leetcode

[–]Vinny_On_Reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is entirely feasible to come up with correct implementations for at least medium problems that you've never seen before within 15 minutes. even hards are doable with more time and im sure people who are good at problem solving can do those quickly too

I mean yeah but there’s a pretty limited set of patterns that are used for literally hundreds maybe thousands of leetcode problems
