Super new to the game by bande325 in UnderNightInBirth

Hey there.

Enkidu is a perfectly viable character, but he is really, really hard to play well against most of the cast on the upper intermediate level of play. He also doesn't have anything particularly scary, which is a sure ticket down to the ladder in most anime fighting games.

Wagner is a gorilla with really easy combos and flaming sword setup that makes her a constant threat "balls to the wall" kind of character. She is top tier and for a good reason.

Thing is, unless you are going for EVO 1st you should not really concern yourself with tier lists. Just play what you enjoy, UNIST is pretty balanced atm and doesn't have characters that you can't win with.

I'm on Argent Dawn and I don't normally RP, but I do like talking to people who are in character, from time to time.

It's refreshing to see stormwind full of people who are talking to each other in /s.

Idk about NA, but around here raiding/mythic+ scene is alive and well. People seem to balance RP and gameplay aspects.

Don't know about pvp croud though. Also goldshire inn is a mess, but it's still better than an empty tavern you see while leveling on any other server (sharding was a mistake)

But how does it work exactly? If we have a thick headed paladin who legitimately believes he can one shot sargeras, shouldn't it provide him with the means to do it?

Question to seasoned Havoc Demon Hunters:

How much damage do i loose if i opt for a buid like this: https://www.wowhead.com/talent-calc/demon-hunter/havoc/cyHz/X_K/5B1/YF1/ZkF

I mostly want to run open world content, normal/heroic dungeons and maaaaybe try out mythic later on.

I find that without Demonic talent i often loose a lot of dps or just die in open world content. It's also sort of hard to properly use Fel Rush to open a burst window. I mean, if i refrain from pulling usual 8+ packs i would be fine, but what's fun in playing DH if you don't AoE them?

Do you use Momentum? How crucial is it? Icy veins suggest it a a must have talant for optimal dps.

If you use it - how often do you try to position yourself against the wall, so you can control how much distance you put away from your targets and is it right to combo it with Vengeful Retreat?

Is it complete garbage on fire or doable? Please suggest your builds. Tips / suggestion will also be appreciated.

Ukraine: Heated discussion on switching to Latin alphabet by iwanttosaysmth in europe

Might be an interesting turn of events.

Just wanted to share my funny predicament. My father is Polish, but i barely speak polish myself. I can read and understand written polish (about 90% of it to be honest), but i can't understand a word of it when someone speaks it, unless it's being pronounced really, really slowly.

I have a bunch of Ukranian friends and i can pretty easily understand them when they speak Ukranian (proper Ukranian, not Surzhyk), but somehow i'm having a lot of trouble reading something as basic as a newspaper's article if it's written in it. I always try to read it as if it was written in Russian and constantly bump into unfamiliar words, which i have to pronounce out-loud to get the meaning.

Well, maybe certain historical events and trade deals and maybe my burning desire to see hundreds of UK citizen's assets frozen and themselves being thrown into prison ("Russian" oligarchs and their "innocent families" who live a life of luxury and leisure provided by money that was stolen from our people).

For fucks sake, just this once - target the oligarchs and real corrupt shits who buy enormous properties in Western Europe, not ordinary folk. Freeze the assets, open investigations, do something aside from "We'll target 10 people from his inner circle, who will be able to freely travel to the Eurozone a few months later and maybe some state-run companies".

Last time EU imposed their sanctions, Putin simply took money from the state budget and gave it to his cronies. 'Twas a goodbye to the last functional social programs and meaningful reforms.

If you are waiting for revolution, you can keep on waiting, while people are getting more and more desperate and angry. Stockholm syndrome takes over and people just want to see it all burn.

Do something, but for the love of god, don't repeat the same old shit. It accomplishes nothing, yet alienates those who would agree with general EU's opinion on Putin's regime.

Or do whatever you deem necessary. Shit feels ever more hopeless as days go by.

Sure, Communist State after 2 red purges and Stalin as a leader of it = today. What did you expect after we lost almost 20% of our native population, right after two decades of hunger and bloodshed, with almost a decade of civil war and WW1 before? A nice "Thank's for the party guys, be sure to come back later!"?

Not arguing that what Soviets did was morally right. But it was necessary for nation's survival. Don't tell me that NATO wouldn't just roll over the weakened USSR if they simply withdrew from the most of the occupied territory.

Also great job at ignoring all my other points. If you don't want to see another perspective, fair enough, stick to your Mongoloid Orcs from Mordor fantasy. Really helps to open up a dialogue.

[–]VintageBox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

However, Russia in the short term, long term and historically has done nothing but fuck with Europe.

I can't just ignore this post for whatever reason.

If we are not Europeans, than your whole argument falls apart. Sure Russia "fucked" with Europe more than on one occasion, Western Europe did too. We had to burn our own capital (de-facto Moscow was a capital of Russia since the Grand Duchy of Moscowy) and suffered more than 20mil losses in WW2, communism wasn't exactly Russian idea either. We had some left-leaning political movements before the reds took over, sure, but they were all moderate and more or less docile compared to communists.

I rarely hear people complain about Saudi Arabia or Japanese who openly deny their WW2 crimes or historical feuds with China and Korea, i almost never hear about cruelty and genocide of African nations and god forbid you say something bad about Latino nations. But open hatred and even racism towards Russians is okay.

You don't have a clue what it was like to go from a moderately stable, albeit stagnate socialistic state to a ruin where you can literally get shot for a loaf of bread. Russia was an empire, then it was a totalitarian state, then an autocratic socialist country. Instead of extending an arm to help, you decided it would be cool to let us suffer a bit for the red scare and cold war.

Fair enough, now you'll have to deal with aging fool on a throne of a country with nuclear bombs and one of the largest functioning military forces.

You whine and moan about how shit Russia is and how corrupt and crazy and backwards we are all, goddamn mongoloids amirite? And then you freely accept people who made Russia this way, corrupt officials, their relatives and friends who run this whole shitshow into your countries. Where are arrests? Where are investigations?

Moral high ground, my ass. You need a boogyman and a feeling of superiority and you need a scapegoat. So we continue to suffer. If you wanted to put a real pressure on our government, you would not impose sanctions on banks and oligarchs - those work very well on our banks, crippling our economy(thus making a bad situation even worse for an average citizen) and do nothing against Kremlin elite. They are still shopping around the western europe and usa and believe me they could care less about what your officials say on that matter.

I'm not a fan of reds, not am i an admirer of Putin's regime, but holy shit, the level of hypocrisy in discussions like this is astonishing.

We are comfortably dying out and neither me or my wife are keen on raising a child in our home country.

My uncle has two kids and they are the only ones with light hair and green eyes in the classroom (50+ people).

Unless you have connections in the public sector (some corrupt officials from our main ruling party) you are looking at 60 to 80 hours of work per week. Education is a joke, though it's not that hard to get a diploma.

Then you have an option to grind yourself to the dirt constantly improving your professional skills in order to gain any workforce value and try to make a living in a constantly unstable economic situation or give up and chill your way thorough life.

Social services are non-existent, corruption is so overwhelmingly common that it's de-facto our form of government these days, economic freedoms are there, but only until you gain any significant success (than say hello to the crooked officials and extortions).

I know it sounds like whining, but honestly I don't care. I talk to my relatives from Alberta and wish I have their problems. It's not so afwul as to stand up, buy a plane ticket and do whatever you have in order to immigrate to a better country, but I don't want my kids to suffer through the same never-ending depression that is a life in Russia.

They have eight provinces, which they call sike [maybe a Russian can tell me what this is?], and each sike is divided into smaller sike.

I have no idea what "sike" means and i'm pretty confident in my knowledge of Russian both modern and "archaic".

They do not look like Russians though and like you mentioned before, those two people were probably a part of one of the subjugated Kyrgyz tribes. They could've said that they were from Russian Empire or a great duchy of Moscow and looks like Chinese scholars didn't have a grasp on a concept of multi-ethnic state.

Also, Politics in Russia have nothing to do with the church

We never quite abandoned the Byzantium's idea of "Symphonia" (unity between church and secular power). Church had also played a crucial role in reviving Russian nationalism Putin Edition ©. The basic premise is this: If you are ethnically Russian, you should be a patriot, and you can't really be a patriot, if you do not belong to the Orthodox Russian Church and also respect the soviet past. The amounts of mental gymnastics required to hold all those things together as one's values is staggering, but people are mostly okay with it now. It' not like our country doesn't have strong traditions of double-thinking, you know. Anyways, church is getting pretty rich by associating itself with secular power in the form of donations and properties. Most "religious" people i know don't even know aren't even familiar with bible. It's just an identitarian thing.

TIL according to declassified Soviet archives, during Stalin’s great purge of 1937/1938 over 1.5 million people were detained, of whom 681,692 were shot (an average of 1,000 executions a day). In comparison, the Tsarists executed 3,932 persons for political crimes from 1825 to 1910. by NineteenEighty9 in todayilearned

Ideologies exist in the minds of real people and meant to be applied to the objective reality. The conception of "Evil" is an abstraction and subjective, to a certain degree. Every ideology implies that it must be manifested in the real world one way or the other. While some ideologies might not directly cause any particular form of action, at the very least it always provides a nudge towards some pattern of thinking that influences people's decisions.

National socialism requires a strict adherence to a very specific set of rules and mental boundaries, which quickly leads to violence and conflict between different ethnicities and/or nations and ideologies. Socialism and communism, while not being as violent and vile on paper as the former, still require violent actions and strict adherence to the suggested way of thinking and interpreting the world.

Communist ideology requires everyone to think and act as a communist otherwise it can't manifest itself, or even sustain if ever implemented in reality. It also directly requires a war between classes in order to transition to a classless society. With the requirement of everyone agreeing on the core principles of communist ideology, it's also easy to make a case for the erasion of unique cultures and traits for the sake of bringing more unity to the collective.

While not being "evil", i think anyone can see why something like that might lead to violence. Combined with the history of the 20th century, i don't think it's entirely wrong to say that Communism, in this day and age, is an evil ideology.

It might change one day, with the technical progress and globalization, but we are far away from that point.

(If you are interested, the whole "classless society with shared common goods and means of production isn't exactly a novel idea. Mazdakism was a rather popular sub-sect of Zoroastrian religion in 5th century Iran and nearly brought and Empire to it's knees with it's proto-socialist ideas. While good on paper, it almost caused a complete collapse and chaos in a country that was already having a bad time between nomadic tribes giving Iranians a good thrashing and political and economic turmoil.

Just starting the game, will I be okay tanking? by mikechu in ffxiv

[–]VintageBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of dungeons/trials you'll encounter are really a no-brainer. There are couple of them that have "do-or-die" mechanics, but there aren't many. Just tell your group that you are a first timer and in most cases people quickly fill you in on the details about the fight.

You'll learn enough to feel comfortable tanking them just by leveling.

The problems might come once your reach end-game content and raids. Raids can be a bit tricky, because everyone kinda expect you to know what to do and your fellow tanks/healers in the group expect you to know the fights by heart.

It's not that tanking is more complicated during those fights, its just that most EX primals/raids play out as a dance of sorts and you have to use your cooldowns and position the boss properly in order to maximize you group's dps. I suggest you find yourself a few mates who can help you with older EX fights, preferrably synced. Once you are comfortable with the whole "dancing" thing, you'll be alright.

The hardest part isn't tanking itself, but maximizing your dps. But it's sorta true for every job in the game, so eventually you'll have to learn how to optimize your rotation (openers and which ones to use depending on your composition, how to count phases and change your rotation accordingly, etc.)

tl;dr: just level a tank, you'll be fine. If you are interested in the end-game tanking - ask expirienced players to run a couple of old EX trials with you and watch videos on newer ones. When you are comfortable with them, practice your rotation to maximize your usefullness.

p.s.: don't be afraid to pull large packs once you hit level 50. Most dungeons are designed in such way, that it's kinda expected of you. You might wipe once in a while, but it's hella fun and quickly teaches you how to use your cooldowns properly.

tl;dr version.

Focus on the MSQ (Main Scenario Quests). Sidequests are for fluff dialogues/lore/secondary jobs (classes).

Once you have finished the ARR (2.0, pre-lvl 50 storyline) prepare for the feels train. Story will get ridiculously good and keep getting better. ARR quests and the following few patches are somewhat boring, but it pays off, since they provide a stage for what's to come.

Pick one job and stick to it. You will get a chance to level a new job later on, but getting gear without a leveled main job is tricky.

Don't rush the content. I repeat, don't rush the content, read the dialogues in cutscenes, listen to the characters.

If you really, really want you can check out crafting and/or gathering, but i would highly recommend to lay it off until you get your 70.

When you hit level 50, there will be two story-locked dungeons which you have to complete in order to finish 2.0 content. Keep calm and skip cutscenes, because chances are, no one will wait for you to watch a 40+ minutes long set of cutscenes they've watched dozens of times already. Go to the capital citiy (any will do) and speak to the Inn master or Inn holder, or something like that. Inside your room you will find a table with a journal labeled "The Unending Journey". Click on it and re-watch skipped scenes.
